"Well now that I'm done here, I'd better go check out the information the old man gave me."
Thinking so, Dongfang Xi's figure disappeared on the spot she was standing on and reappeared in front of an ancient manor situated on the foot of a... bald mountain.
Yup!
It's totally bald and pitch black on top of that, with lots of potholes, leaving one to wonder what kind of catastrophe it went through before she came into possession of it.
Well at least, the manor is intact.
Which was rather strange considering how devastated it's surrounding areas were.
Entering the manor, Dongfang Xi headed straight to the study room where she usually keeps most of her files and browse the details of her mission.
Without further ado, Dongfang Xi took out the envelope from her backpack and tore off the sealing tape, revealing a flash drive and a folded piece of paper.
"Oh, What's this?"
Usually, she'll only receive a flash drive containing encrypted information at most. It's quite unprecedented for her to receive anything else considering the possibility of the mission details being leaked or falling into the wrong hands.
Unfolding the piece of paper, Dongfang Xi read through it's contents and immediately fell silent.
A paternity test...
And it wasn't just any paternity test.
But one belonging to her and a certain family she had close ties yet remained unfamiliar with.
Her biological family, to be exact.
Not that she had completely forgotten their existence or anything but that she was rather resistant to the notion of having blood relatives, what with her past experiences in her previous life.
However, that aside, the appearance of this paternity test truly made her wonder how it is related to her mission.
Inserting the flash drive into her computer, Dongfang Xi quickly deciphered the encrypted message within using a program that she had once created and started reading through it.

There couldn't have been a mistake while running her program, right?

She was certain of it.
But then again, despite the fact that the flash drive's contents weren't encoded by them personally, the military's higher-ups couldn't have made such a low-level mistake of sending the wrong information, especially when it comes to missions of such importance that it required someone of her level to handle.
Holding up her chin with one hand while the other manipulated the mouse, Dongfang Xi scrolled down and continued reading, her expression turning from strange at the beginning to...
Becoming increasingly speechless as she read on.

The woman cried, rage apparent in her eyes as she held the man's collar with force, yet it never deterred the man for the woman's pitiful appearance and utmost helplessness only served to awaken a fire within him that remained dormant for years.
"Heh! Sue me? Lu Xiaoxiao, how can you be so naive? Do you think a single woman like you with neither power nor wealth to speak of can win against me, the Head of the Gu family and an accomplished CEO of a listed company?You can try bringing this matter to court as you see fit, yet I can also turn around and accuse you for kidnapping my children and illegally detaining them. However, if you spend the night with me and please me well, perhaps, I can consider letting you see them again."

To think such magical people with strange brain circuits could exist in this world...
No. Actually it could. Since from what she could glean from the thousand-chapter blood-vomitting romantic nonsense she just spent reading for more than half a day, this is a world within a sadomasochistic x apocalypse novel.
As for how the military came into possession of said novel? That might have something to do with the recent disturbance in the military caused by the reappearance of a certain Lieutenant General who disappeared inexplicably without trace in his office half a year ago and was said to have been transported into a different dimension where said novel was so on the rage in the internet that even a serious middle-aged man like him came to know of it.
To make the long story short, it all started with female lead, a pitiful female college student working as a waitress in a high-end hotel to make ends meet being pulled into a room and spent a torrid night with the male lead, a CEO of a listed company.
The two fell in love with each other and started one hell of a sweet romance. However, the affair didn't last long before the girl was forced away by the evil mother-in-law who was dissatisfied with the girl's lack of status.
You know, the classic cheque-throwing, "Take-this-money-and-leave-my-son-or-else" scenario where the disheartened female lead leaves without saying goodbye to the male lead, gives birth to their children abroad and returns a few years later only be involved in a series of misunderstandings, all the while implicating countless bystanders during their pointless quarrels.
And speaking of innocent bystanders, to name a few, that would be her biological family, home to the third male lead, which, frankly speaking, she couldn't even understand how he got such a high status in the cast of characters when her gentlemanly older brother barely even had any form of interaction with the female lead except for that one time when he saved her from the mouth of a zombie during the early days of the apocalypse when he was out looking for supplies.
Classic Hero-Saving-The-Beauty...
Such a moving scene it was.
But if you think his heroic deeds would be appreciated, then you couldn't be anymore wrong for when the male lead found the unconscious female lead in the arms of her stupid older brother, he was immediately consumed with rage and jealousy which led to him targeting the Xiao family left and right, until not even a single one of it's members remained on the face of the earth
As for the female lead's reaction?
Haha!
Forget about feeling sorry...
As a matter of fact, she didn't even know of their existence!
Talk about doing a good deed without leaving a name and repaying kindness with vengeance...
It really made people speechless!
Another prime example is the so-called villain of the story, currently a third year high school student and the one object of her protection, Qin Ye, who supposedly had a special physique that was immune to the zombie virus and was captured by the male lead into his base's laboratory in order to research the zombie vaccine.
Qin Ye, with his excellent physique resisted the zombie virus injected into his body day after day, yet, after repeated experimentations for more than two years, he finally crumbled and succumbed to the virus, turning into an existence that was neither human nor zombie and escaped from the laboratory after massacring all researchers within it.
However, that wasn't the end of it, for a few months later, Qin Ye, who had become the Zombie Emperor returned along with a tide of zombies that besieged the male lead's base from all sides, killing everyone in it, along with the male lead himself.
After that day, Qin Ye disappeared and it wasn't until a year later when a vial of Zombie Vaccine appeared in the office of the commander of the largest military base along with a letter detailing the method of it's production and ingredients written by Qin Ye.
And in the fifth year from whence the apocalypse started, humanity found hope and a ray of survival as they began exploring and rebuilding their homes without the threat of zombies, however, by then, it was also when everyone discovered the remains of the Zombie Emperor, Qin Ye, who had dug out his crystal core with his very own hands, sitting still on the edge of a cliff while bathing in the afterglow of the crimson sunset.
