Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Eight seconds later and another [Arcane Burst] sailed towards the normal rat. Reducing its health to a third. Due to her staying still to cast, she could not dodge out of the way of the [Large Rat]'s claw.
[-62] hovered above, making her health [168/230], thankfully the extra 60 health points from levelling and placing a point in endurance made an impact.
Sidestepping another lunge from the [Bloodthirsty Rat] and carefully retreating from the normal one which charged at her. As the [Bloodthirsty Rat] approached, she found that she was not quick enough to dodge it. Probably due to it's higher level.
Watching its feet, she saw its back legs buckle as it prepared to junp again. Without any spells or time to dodge, she did the only thing she could think of and struck it with the [Arcane Spellbook] once it launched at it.
[-7]
The low damage due to her weapon choice was expected. But it still managed to redirect the rat from hitting her. Aiming before it could gain its bearing and the [Large Rat] could charge again, she cast the final [Arcane Burst] needed to kill its friend.
[Large Rat has been slain]
[90 exp has been gained]
Rolling out of the way of its bite, she tried to put space between them. Now an even fight, she felt sure of her victory. That thought led to her reacting slowly to the rat's tail which swung and hit her in the chest.
[-89]
Flying backwards, she hit the floor with a thump. The rat roaring triumphully as it charged towards her, its short but powerful legs making the ground shake. Before it could reach her, she stumbled on her feet and cast [Arcane Burst] at the target.
[-80]
Thankfully, her damage seemed to match the beast's, however she could not attack as freely due to her cooldowns. Looking at them, she saw that her spell the [Rune of Containment] had finally come out of cooldown and [Runic Shield] only had 4 seconds left too.
As it advanced, she cast [Rune of Containment] but it seemed to learn from last time and it sprinted out of its area before it could take effect. This put it back on its cooldown. With a scowl, she put more space between them.
The next couple dozen seconds consisted off a load of dodging and weaving. Elya had managed to not get hit once but she had to cast [Runic Shield] so it was back on cooldown. The rat's health was down to [56/200] since she had managed to hit it with another [Arcane Burst] and her book once again.
It resulted in casting Bloodthirsty Aura which caused her to get hit again and play more defensive.
'Isn't my damage a little crazy?' She thought. 'Doing 80 damage with one spell at this level is wild. I bet it falls off hard.' With a hard thump of her book, she managed to change its direction once again, so its claws narrowly missed her.
With a cast of [Arcane Burst] the final rat fell and dissapeared into specks of light.
[You have slain a Bloodthirsty Rat]
[150 exp has been gained]
An item dropped onto the floor, a pale green aura surrounding it. She picked it up.

'Okay, this is good I think? It's a set item so its worth something.' Elya thought.
Opening her status to view the time in real life, -it said 18:32, as she had spent four hours playing-,she noticed it was probably time to log out. Walking under the cover of a nearby tree, she clicked logout for a notification to appear.
[Requesting logout in a non-safe zone. If not attacked in the next minute, request will be granted. When logging back in, any nearby monsters will have a ten second blindness debuff to give you time to run.
To stop abuse of this, you can log back in 22:32. Proceed to log out?]
She clicked proceed, and a timer appeared. A minute later, her vision darkened and the title screen of the game appeared with a timer until she could log back in and a notice that its safe to remove her VR helm.
Elya removed the silver helm painted with golden swirls, (courtesy of her boredom). She stepped off her bed and stretched a little before she showered and made some instant ramen.
With a towel wrapped around her hair, a bowl of ramen at her side and an aged tablet in her hands, the last gift she recieved from her mother, she scrolled through the forums of the new game.
She saw videos, livestreams and articles on the starter period as no one had advanced past it yet. The highest level, she could find was a level 6 equipped with a shadow dagger.
Watching his livestream, she noticed that she wasn't that overpowered like she thought. And the [Arcane Spellbook] seemed to be one of the weaker options too, all the magical ones were.
It seemed that they gave three skills each which the melee weapons didn't, yet due to their mp requirements and cooldowns, fights ended up being longer as they had to stall. She saw countless people who had unlocked bloodlines as well.
For example, this one gorgeous woman had unlocked a [Lesser Narcolepsy Fairy] with dark purple wings, and the ability to inflict the sleep debuff. A buff guy was awarded the [LessernHoly Centaur] bloodline which caused him to sprout hooves.
Actually, looking through the list of all the bloodlines gained, all of them were named [Lesser] with an ability to evolve later on. Seeing this, she felt envigorated to find out her bloodline and the abilities they give.
