Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Other things became clear in the forums too. The developers wanted the player base to breeze past the tutorial. It was why all starter weapons seemed to be extraordinarily strong with no cap on how they scale with stats.
Elya theorised that after the starter area they would likely be nerfed or rendered absolete, or else thered be no point to swap.
Set drops seemed to be quite rare considering she had seen only two out of thousands of other players who seemed to have found one, and they were both common sets.
Another thing she found was the Conversion store would be online next week. This was a place where people could sell items and in-game currency for real world money. It was her hope.
Since she had dropped out of school to take care of her mother when she fell ill, she had no qualifications to get a job. Left with a dwindling inheritance which was soon to run out, she had no choice but to gamble it all on her true love, gaming.
With a week until she could sell items, she made a list on what she wanted to acheive. Firstly, she needed to finish her bloodline quest, complete the starter town and if possible get more parts of the [Bloodthirsty Set], to see if she could sell it. Which she would have to do straight away before people were too overleveled and it was no longer useful.
She looked at the top of her tablet to see that it was now 20:19. She decided to take a quick nap before she could log back in as she was too excited about her bloodline possibilities to leave it any longer, so a all nighter seemed to be in order.
Setting her alarm for about 10 minutes before she could log back in so she could wake up and drink some coffee, she went to sleep.
~~~~~~~
Ring! Ring! Ring!
She shot up out of bed, and skidded down the stairs to make a coffee. Scrolling through the forums for anything interesting, she saw a multitude of new people unlocking bloodlines. Several people had even deleted their accounts because they were unhappy with their choice.
Only to find out that you cannot create another one until a week later as punishment.
Intruiging bloodlines such as [Lesser Arctic Troll], [Lesser Venom Arachnid], [Lesser Pagan Witch] and even [Lesser Angel]. The girl who had acheived the [Lesser Angel] bloodline was the girl who had shoved her out of the way for it.
Her name was Lillia, and she was promoting her live stream which seemed to bolster in popularity due to her cool bloodline ans beautiful looks. Elya, acknowledged her jealousy as well as her satisfaction that her large feathery wings could not be absorbed into the body like some traits.
Chugging the burning coffee, she placed the VR helm onto her head and pressed the power button. The game booted up and loaded her in as the timer had just ran out. Appearing suddenly, she noticed a single level 2 [Large Rat] near her afflicted with blindness.
Because of how weak it was compared to her, she cast [Arcane Burst] which shaved off half of its health. Before it struck, she also cast [Rune of Containment].
[-80 damage]
[-5 damage]...
Waiting until it came off cooldown, she recast [Arcane Burst] which killed it.
Placing her one stat point into agility, wisdom and endurance while placing two in speed so she can react faster. She returned to walking towards the cave.
As she traversed through the remaining grassfield, she stood next to the imposing mountain. The cave housing the wolves next to her. The mountain seemed to reach the sky as it peirced the clouds, the top remaining unseen. Eerily, the cave's entrance seemed shrouded in unnatural darkness.
Warily, she approached casting Appraisal at everything to see if it could provide any information. She recieved none. Walking inside quietly, the black-haired girl was suprised to find that while the cave was dark, she could see quite well inside, completely different to the darkness of the entrance.
The den itself was not big at all. All it consisted of was a hallway which turned into a nest of wolves. Peeking inside, she saw five wolves inside all resting quite far from eachother. She checked the status of them all.
She cheered silently. Despite their high levels it was easy to complete her quest. Observing them, she noticed the gem she needed was near the [Lesser Demonic Hound] as it absorbed the dark energy that seemed to exude from it.
Due to the fact that the nest was connected to a narrow hallway and it was not overly large, might take around 5 seconds of running to reach the back where the gem was a plan was formed.
Elya would cast [Rune of Containment] on the hound, pick up the gem and then dart into the hallway. Since it was narrow, they would line up to chase her meaning she only had to avoid one, or in her case shield against one. After she escaped out the den, she would run until she was safe, or die trying.
Taking a deep breathe, she turned around the corner, cast the [Rune of Containment] and bolted towards the gem, placing it into her inventory.
Running back to the hallway, the four other wolves tried to block her advance but she managed to sidestep them. As she entered the hallway,right behind her was the highest level [Mundane Wolf] which jumped at her.
Casting [Runic Shield] which pushed it into the wolf behind it, causing them to falter momentarily, she saw the light of the exit where the light of dawn enveloped the ratsfields.
