Chapter 30: Before the future

Walking along the barren wasteland of the ninetieth floor I observed its utter inhospitable atmosphere. All you saw in every direction was cracked rock and dust. I could feel the rumbling beneath me as the giant worms carved their way through the earth.

"This seems like a pretty good spot to make a real monster," I said to myself.

Despite having created Elves, Dwarves, and Titans none of them were meant to be monsters. This creation however would be a real creature of nightmares. Pullin up the monster creation function I started with what made every dangerous monster a nightmare. A human body. Turning the body white, I started covering it in strong bone plated armor. I elongated its fingers to become claws that can cut through anything. Then moving towards its face I changed it to look like a skull with a pointed chin. Next, I made two horns grow up from the top of its head making the head look like an oni mask. It took a few hours to hammer out the detail and create a few opposing designs, but I finally finished.

"Hmm, let's not summon this yet. I need to make this floor a bit more dangerous" I said to myself.

Looking to the top of the monster design I put in a name for these designs as a placeholder. Demon.

"I don't really want to change the whole barren wasteland that it has going on but it's not enough yet" I commented.

Thinking for a while I started bringing up some lava and changing the ground to brimstone. Though halfway through this process I changed my mind. The whole fire and brimstone were a bit to cliche.

"What to do?" I asked myself "There are a lot of myths about where demons come from but none of those seem like something I want to do.

While I was thinking though, a word game came to mind that changed my whole view. Hollow. An idea struck my head and the ground around me started turning from solid rock to white sand. Spreading it across the entire floor I watched as the barren wasteland became more barren. Changing the temperature, I dropped it down to below zero to give the whole floor a creepy cold. Contrary to the original though I made the sky an ominous dark grey with an ethereal blue moon off in the distance.

"This should be a good start" I said. "Though to make what I envision this is going to take a lot more time. Especially when making the monsters unique"

Looking back over the floor, my vision overlapped with what could be. No tower is complete without at least one evil race. Soon after I continued my work trying to make what I envisioned especially since I had some other ideas I wanted to get to.

POV Zhao

I walked through the halls of the fire nation palace each step bringing me closer to the throne room. Arriving before two large gold ornate doors I was stopped by two guards putting their hands on my chest.

"Wait here" they said harshly.

I gave them a glare but stayed where I was. One peeled off and entered the room for a moment then came back out.

"The Fire lord will see you now" He stated moving out of the way.

As I stepped forward the doors swung open in front of me, and I stopped. Far into the room was a raised stage all set on fire and behind that fire was a figure kneeling in his place of authority. Walking faster I approached the stage and knelt. Feeling the pressure of his gaze, I felt frustration climb through me. Despite my increase in power, I still felt danger from this man.

"Speak" I heard the commanding voice.

"I am Commander Zhao, for the last seven months I have been at the tower exploring its mysteries and sending in reports" I informed, head still bowed.

"What have you seen?" he commanded.

"I have seen weak men become powerful with abilities only spirits could dream of"

"I have seen the healers that have come back. Show me what else there is"

Standing up I turned back to the door and gestured for the guards to let someone in. The doors opened and one of my subordinates; a young man; from the tower entered.

"This is Lee, he was with me in the tower he has taken the class of mage"

"I have read of these classes, they are supposed to grant great power" Fire Lord Ozai stated then looked at the young boy "What are you waiting for, demonstrate your supposed power"

Lee was trembling at the Fire Lord's gaze but still managed to respond saying "Yes my lord" with a quick bow.

Seeming nervous Lee rambled out "I..I…" no doubt feeling the pressure from the Fire Lord.

"Spit it out boy" The Fire Lord commanded.

"I need a target, sir," he said quietly. "I do not want to damage the room"

Pointing at a guard in the back, Fire Lord Ozai commanded "You, get over here and stand in front of him"

Stumbling over the guard approached us and stood a few yards from Lee.

"Go on boy," Fire Lord Ozai commanded.

"Yes sir" Lee said, raising a hand Lee hesitated. He may be a soldier, but this was a fellow citizen of the Fire Nation "Magic Bolt".

A palish blue energy erupted from Lee's hand as it made its way towards the soldier piercing him through the stomach. Lee trembled as blood started to pool on the guard's chest.

"Remove him," Fire Lord Ozai commanded.

Two guards approached and grabbed the bleeding guard by the shoulder and pulled him out of the room.

"Do you need to speak those words?" Fire Lord Ozai inquired.

Standing up a bit straighter Lee answered "not my lord but it does help focus it"

"You have done well Admiral Zhao," Fire Lord Ozai said.

"Thank you, my lord" I responded pleased with the impromptu promotion.

"Do you have anything that you have not included in your report" An Advisor I had previously not seen asked from the side of the room.

"There are people living in the tower," I said plainly.

"People?" The advisor questioned.

"Yes, they live on the fiftieth floor" I responded.

"You have only made it to the thirtieth," Fire Lord Ozai said accusingly.

Noticing his tone, I was quick to respond "Yes, my lord. Though the other nations aren't doing any better. Only the earth kingdom has made it to the thirtieth; the water tribe is still ten floors below"

"What is your strength compared to the others?" The advisor asked.

"Out of everyone who has gone through the tower I am most likely the strongest" I replied.

"There is no one else" The Advisor asked unbelieving.

"General Ho Rehi would most likely match me, but he isn't stronger" I lied.

"Good" The Fire Lord drawled out "Since you mentioned in your report his leave of the tower, I will let your weakness pass for now. I believe a discussion about my plans for the tower is in order," Ozai said with an evil smile "Call all of the generals and prepare the war rooms"
