Chapter 59: Courage is Humanity’s Ode
He would dissipate into tomorrow so that the world could continue.
Li Mo remained in yesterday's twilight so that the world could walk in tomorrow's dawn.
While Li Mo was traveling around the world, urgently dealing with the bizarre entities, the few survivors in this world, whose courage and curiosity were both quite high, took out their phones and filmed Li Mo.
Regardless of their country or race,
they watched Li Mo, who was eradicating those unkillable bizarre entities, with hope and awe.
Like light. Like a savior.
Li Mo himself didn't care. After he finished dealing with the bizarre entities, he would reset the entire world, returning it to the state it was in a few days before the bizarre spread.
Li Mo looked at the tainted wings of light behind him. The sacred color began to fade, twisting and warping into an ugly form.
It seemed as though even blood was condensing into illusory limbs, twitching and convulsing.
"It's a good thing that Kiana didn't have any intelligence after being contaminated. I don't even dare to imagine how to deal with a bizarre entity, with human consciousness, that controlled this power…"
The unlimited power of spacetime wasn't just an unbreakable defense, but also the best method of attack.
Physically, there was spatial severance. Conceptually, there was spacetime reversal.
And combined with the powers of all the Herrschers, it created an unsolvable monster like Bizarre Kiana.
If Bizarre Kiana hadn't been so focused on seeking love, and if she had his coordinates, Li Mo would have probably died on the spot.
"It'll be best if I die once after going back, and reset, and try to get rid of any spacetime coordinates that Bizarre Kiana might have left on me without my knowledge."
"Now, everything that should be dealt with has been dealt with. Only one is left."
Li Mo looked toward a hotel, which was filled with the aura of bizarre entities.
When Li Mo arrived at the entrance, the hotel was brightly lit. The brilliant lights made it seem as if there weren't any bizarre entities hiding inside.
But… Li Mo looked around.
This city had already become a ghost town. Not a single building had its lights on, and there weren't many signs of life.
The power plant had already collapsed, and there was no electricity. Then why was there still a brightly lit hotel in the dark city?
Clearly, it was luring people in.
Li Mo didn't know its purpose, but for the living, entering would definitely not be a good thing.
Inside the hotel—
The packaged takeout appeared out of thin air on the table, and everyone's hearts instantly turned cold.
The things in the rooms needed to eat again…
They had to choose someone to deliver the food. If the takeout wasn't delivered to the correct room number within a certain time, then people in the group would die one after another, turning into new, human takeout.
"What do we do? Who will deliver it?"
Everyone was silent, lowering their heads.
There wasn't anyone inside the hotel rooms. Someone had tried opening the door before, but he had quickly died. The blood in his body had been drained dry, and his muscles and organs were all hollowed out. No one knew where they went.
It was as if he had been eaten by something.
There had also been people who volunteered to deliver food at the beginning, but they never returned…
They couldn't even find their corpses. They must have also been eaten by the ghostly things inside the rooms.
They would die if they didn't deliver the food. And they would also die if they did. The only difference was when they would die. The result was the same.
Clearly, none of the people in the lobby had any experience in dealing with these kinds of situations. What you saw in the news and what you experienced yourself were two completely different things.
In a situation where they could be killed by ghosts at any moment, everyone's nerves were incredibly tense.
"I'll go," Li Mo said, smiling, as he walked in through the main entrance and picked up the takeout box.
"What's the room number?" Li Mo asked.
"203," someone in the crowd immediately answered, thinking that finally, there was someone who had stepped up to die for them.
At first glance, Li Mo seemed like a newbie, someone who didn't believe in evil, someone who thought he could survive.
Li Mo didn't care what others thought. There were good people in this world, so naturally, there were also bad people.
Those people didn't care whether or not others were good people. They only wanted to vent their malice and do it without any guilt.
But that had nothing to do with him. Li Mo just needed to find the last bizarre entity and seal it.
Li Mo had just tried to see if he could directly find that bizarre entity. Unfortunately, it seemed like he needed some kind of medium. Without triggering it, the bizarre entity would forever hide in an untouchable dimensional space.
Countless barriers separated spacetimes. Without coordinates, even Bizarre Kiana wouldn't be able to accurately locate them, let alone a half-baked Herrscher like him.
Since there was such a bizarre rule in the hotel, as long as he followed the rule, he would eventually encounter the bizarre entity that was hiding in some other dimension.
As soon as he met it, he would unleash his attacks without any explanation, and then use spacetime lockdown to end the battle.
"203, the third room on the second floor."
Li Mo carried the takeout box and came to the destination.
It was a simple, unadorned door, without any aura of bizarre entities. Not only were there no traces of bizarre entities, there weren't any traces of living people either.
Li Mo withdrew his consciousness perception. As he placed the takeout box in front of the door, suddenly, unknown changes occurred in the space inside.
The door, which had originally looked very normal, became dilapidated. The paint had faded, and a stench was coming from the decaying wood.
Several auras appeared inside.
Li Mo stopped in front of the door and didn't leave.
Doing this was very risky because there was a very high chance that Li Mo would be directly attacked by the bizarre entities without even having time to react.
But so what? He was a bizarre entity now. He wouldn't die.
If he was still human, Li Mo would have considered other methods. But by being personally involved, the amount of information he could get would be much higher.
In bizarre events, it was often necessary to use human lives to figure out the bizarre rules and patterns, and sacrifices were inevitable…
There was nothing wrong with this. But Li Mo always adhered to a single principle: sacrifice had to be meaningful, had to have value. People couldn't die in vain.
He was no exception. If it was appropriate, Li Mo would willingly sacrifice himself to get information.
The door opened, and a withered, shriveled female hand reached out tremblingly from inside the room.
"Gotcha!"
Li Mo quickly grabbed her wrist, and with his other hand, abruptly threw the door open.
But when Li Mo saw the scene inside the room, he couldn't help but show a shocked expression.
A familiar young woman, all the light gone from her face, her body as dry and withered as a mummy.
Two ghost infants were clinging to her waist, greedily sucking her blood, devouring her skin and the organs inside of her body.
The girl's stomach had been completely eaten, and only a motionless heart remained inside.
The power of bizarre entities was sustaining her life, but it couldn't hide her pain.
"Yuu-chan…"
Li Mo's voice was very soft. He felt a pang of sadness, seeing the girl who had once followed behind him looking like this.
He had, after all, regained most of his emotions…
The moment Saori Tsuruyo saw Li Mo, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
She wanted to hug Li Mo, but she was aware of her current hideous appearance, so she refused to take even a single step out of the room.
She forcefully suppressed her tears.
"Big Brother, here…"
Saori Tsuruyo took out the thermometer and the pistol from her stomach. They were stained with crimson blood.
Saori Tsuruyo used her relatively clean arm to wipe away the stains and handed them to Li Mo.
"Look, I kept them safe… I didn't… break my promise…"
As she said this, a faint smile appeared on her lips, despite the blood and foam that had started to spill from her mouth. It was as if she had fulfilled the mission she had been given.
"After I left St. Freya, the world outside had changed. Many bizarre entities appeared in people's lives."
"At first, no one really cared. They didn't even care when it was repeatedly reported in the news."
"But I knew that if these things were left unchecked, then many people would die."
"I took what you gave me, and kept collecting information on them, doing my best to slow the spread of the bizarre."
"I used the thermometer to locate them, and the pistol to suppress their actions. I stayed in my room, searching for ways to deal with them."
"But they recovered too quickly. The speed at which the bullets regenerated couldn't keep up…"
"And then I discovered that I could eat the takeout they ordered, that it could heal my body… So I used the hotel rule and forced others to deliver food so that I could keep healing and keep them from leaving the room."
"I'm so useless. I'm no match for Big Brother. All I could do was use myself to stop them… I'm sorry…"
Saori Tsuruyo turned around, wanting to hide her hideous appearance.
Perhaps, compared to now, those days when she was in St. Freya, hiding behind Li Mo, had been much easier and happier.
Li Mo wasn't stupid. He quickly understood what had happened.
The so-called rule that stated you would die if you delivered food didn't exist. Saori Tsuruyo was the first one to deliver food, but to figure out the bizarre rule and deal with it, she had risked her life and entered the room where the bizarre entities were, only to end up being trapped by them.
To prevent the bizarre entities from spreading, she chose to stay in this room, being eaten alive by the ghosts.
And then she would eat the ghosts' food to heal herself. After her body healed, she would be eaten by the ghosts again, repeating the cycle, day after day. Who knew how long it had lasted?
From a timid child, to what she had become now.
Saori Tsuruyo had done everything that she, as an ordinary person, could, and she had done even more.
Courage was humanity's eternal ode.
Li Mo walked over and rubbed her head. "You did a great job. Close your eyes, and when you open them again, this nightmare will be over…"
"Okay." Saori Tsuruyo obediently closed her eyes.
To her, it didn't matter whether the Li Mo that had suddenly appeared was real or not.
If it was real, then Big Brother wasn't dead. If it wasn't real, then at least she would be able to see the person she most wanted to see before she died.
There was no better news than this.
Saori Tsuruyo didn't dare to ask for more. She was afraid that the Big Brother before her would suddenly disappear, that everything was fake, and that she would return to that ugly, painful reality…
Even though her current appearance was hideous, Li Mo still didn't show any disgust. His familiar appearance made Saori Tsuruyo feel incredibly at peace.
With him by her side, the long and cruel pain became more bearable.
Golden light particles surrounded Saori Tsuruyo. In a moment, she returned to the day she had left St. Freya.
