Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Reincarnation
It was a warm summer night in Japan, and the buzz of the crowd echoed as groups of people spilled out of the theater. The lights from the marquee cast a soft glow on the sidewalk, while the chatter about the movie we'd just seen filled the air. At the back of the crowd, Yumi and I walked side by side, the cool evening air brushing against us.
"That final fight was insane," Yumi said, still hyped. "Asta and Conrad were literally going all out with those swords. Asta with his Anti Magic sword, and Conrad with that Imperial Sword? I didn't think it could get any crazier, but then—" She paused, her excitement building. "—then Conrad summoned that thing. That creature or whatever it was. The whole battlefield felt like it was about to collapse!"
I nodded, a grin forming on my face. "Yeah, it was crazy. It was a fight of raw power, but what really made it epic was when Asta used both the Imperial Sword and his Anti Magic sword. I never thought he could pull that off, but when he did? That was next level."
Yumi's eyes lit up. "Exactly! That moment when he combined them—it was like he became unstoppable. The swords clashing with each other, magic swirling around them, it felt like time stopped for a second."
"Totally," I said, remembering the scene vividly. "It was like both sides were fighting for the same thing, but in totally different ways. Asta with his determination and Anti Magic, and Conrad with all that Imperial power. But then when Asta finally landed that blow... you could feel the entire theater shake."
Yumi smiled, still caught up in the excitement of it all. "And the magic effects! The way the swords clashed, the light and darkness merging—it was like they were fighting over reality itself. That's probably one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie."
"Mine too," I said with a laugh. "It was the perfect combination of raw power and strategy. Asta didn't just fight with his swords; he fought with everything he had in that moment."
As we continued walking, our friends caught up with us, still buzzing from the movie.
"Man, when Asta landed that last hit, it was legendary!" one of them said, excitement clear in their voice.
Another friend added, "Conrad's Door Magic was next-level. He was warping space like it was nothing."
Yumi laughed, nudging me. "See, Ryo? That's what I'm talking about. The whole fight was about outsmarting your opponent. It wasn't just brute strength."
I grinned, nodding. "Exactly. Every time one of them opened a door, you never knew what was gonna happen next."
We continued walking, our conversation flowing as the energy from the movie still hung in the air.
After entering the city, the four of us walked to a food stall to grab a quick late-night snack. The streets were calm, the air cool, and we joked about random things while enjoying our food. Once we finished, we continued our walk home, the night feeling peaceful.
As we reached the traffic signal and crossed the zebra line, I was still chatting with my friends, not really paying attention to anything else. That's when it happened...
*A wild Truck-Kun has appeared!*
Out of nowhere, a truck came speeding toward us, and it looked like it wasn't going to stop. Panic surged through me, but I didn't have time to think. Instinct kicked in, and before I knew it, I was pushing the three of them to the other side, away from the truck's path. My body hit the ground hard as I shoved them, but I managed to get back on my feet quickly.
Just as I was about to jump out of the way, the truck... sped up. It was like it accelerated at the last second, and the next thing I knew, it hit me. Everything went fuzzy. In that daze, I swore I heard something like, "Its Isekai time!" from the truck, but it was probably just my mind playing tricks on me in the chaos.
As I flew through the air, my brain could only focus on one thought. 'Out of the billions of people in the world, why me? I never asked for this.'
Soon, my flying body succumbed to gravity, and I started plummeting. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the truck keep going, just driving forward like it had no care for what happened. It eventually disappeared, and I braced for impact.
When I finally made contact with the asphalt, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The road felt surprisingly warm, almost soothing, like it was trying to comfort me before the end. As I lay there, surrounded by my friends and random people, my life flashed before my eyes.
I saw my time at the orphanage, the love and care from the caretakers there. Then my school years, high school, college—each event replayed in my mind, one after another. It was like I was looking back on my entire life in the span of a few seconds.
As I took my last breath, I couldn't help but think, 'Damn it, I died a virgin.' A weak chuckle bubbled up from inside me despite everything. 'I swear, if I get another chance, I'm gonna live life to the fullest.'
Then, everything went dark. I could hear the sound of the ambulance in the distance, but it didn't matter. My consciousness faded, and the world went quiet.
I don't know how long I was out, but when I finally regained consciousness, I found myself floating in some unknown space. I was surrounded by stars, black holes, nebulas, and all sorts of beautiful sights. It was like I was in the middle of a cosmic dream. Not a single soul in sight, so I called out into the void, "Hello, anyone here?"
But all I got in return was the echo of my own voice. "Hello!!" I shouted again, but still nothing. It felt like I was shouting into an endless emptiness. Frustrated and realizing this was going nowhere, I decided to take things into my own hands.
It took a little time to get the hang of it, but eventually, I figured out how to fly in this strange space. Curiosity got the best of me, and I flew toward a planet that looked oddly similar to Earth. The colors, the landscapes—it all felt so familiar. Without thinking too much, I gently touched the planet.
The next thing I knew, I was seeing the planet from a god-like perspective. My body froze for a moment as I took it all in. I was startled, but I calmed myself down and continued floating, looking around. Soon enough, I found myself floating closer to a place I recognized. It was the exact spot where I died.
I watched from above as my lifeless body was carried away. I saw my friends, their faces twisted with sorrow. And then, I saw the old warden from the orphanage, along with the caretakers who had taken care of me. It stung me to see them so sad, and I felt an overwhelming urge to go back to them. But I couldn't. No matter how much I wanted to, I was stuck here.
As I left the scene behind, a thought crossed my mind 'Is this heaven? So those old people weren't lying… dead people really do watch us from above.' I couldn't help but chuckle at the idea, though it was bittersweet.
But then, out of nowhere, I felt a pull. In the blink of an eye, I was in a completely different place. This one was unlike anything I'd seen before. There were no stars, no planets—just some strange, colorful mist floating around. I was curious, so I reached out and put my hand through one of these mist-like phenomena. It felt like water flowing through my fingers.
As I looked around, I noticed an odd-looking ball in the distance, and everything in the area seemed to be revolving around it. My curiosity took over, and I flew toward the ball and touched it.
The moment I made contact, everything around me stopped. The mist stopped revolving, and even the ball began to vibrate. My heart raced, and I quickly pulled back, startled. "Oops," I muttered to myself, wondering what the heck I just did.
Before I could process what just happened, a shockwave blasted out from the ball. Instinctively, I raised my hand in front of me, like that was somehow going to help. The shockwave pushed everything away, scattering all the colorful mist that had been floating around. For a moment, everything went quiet. Too quiet.
But, of course, it was just the calm before the storm.
The next instant, I felt a violent pull coming from the ball, far stronger than anything before. It was sucking in all the mist—and me, too. I planted my feet or at least, whatever someone would call my "stance" in this space and struggled to hold my position, but it was no use. Slowly but surely, I was being dragged toward the ball.
As I got closer, the pull grew stronger. By the time I was practically face-to-face with it, all the mist in this strange space had been absorbed. The ball had quieted down, but it still vibrated. This time, though, I noticed something weird—every time it pulsed, it was shrinking. Bit by bit, it kept getting smaller until it transformed into a tiny orb.
That's when things got really strange.
The orb started moving on its own. It circled me a few times, like it was sizing me up or something. At first, I thought maybe it was just random, but then it stopped, floating right in front of my face. I barely had time to react before it shot straight into my forehead.
The moment it hit me, everything went dark again. My body felt like it was weightless, floating in a sea of nothingness.
Even though I was unconscious, I could somehow feel everything happening outside. It was faint, like sensing things through a fog. But then, everything faded, and I found myself in a strange, unfamiliar place.
There was nothing here at first, just emptiness. Then, I saw myself—my silhouette—standing in the void. Floating in front of my silhouette was the white orb that had dived into my head earlier. My brain immediately kicked into overdrive. As an avid reader, I recognized this place from countless cultivation novels. This had to be what those authors call the "sea of consciousness."
Sure enough, it looked exactly like the name implied: an endless expanse of water surrounding me, my silhouette, and the orb. I couldn't see where the sea ended, no matter how far I looked. But before I could figure out why my sea of consciousness seemed infinite, I was yanked out of there without warning.
The next thing I felt was a new pull—much stronger than before. My entire body started shrinking. It was weird, like I was collapsing in on myself. As the pull grew stronger, I felt myself passing through some kind of membrane. A blinding light hit me, and I instinctively shut my eyes tight.
When I finally opened them, I found myself lying in front of what looked like a church. Before I could get a good look around, two loud baby cries broke through the air—one on each side of me. I turned my head, only to spot two baskets next to me. Before I could process what was happening, the church doors creaked open.
A middle-aged priest walked out, taking one look at us and sighing, "Here we go again!" He seemed almost amused as he came closer. When his eyes landed on me, still staring at him like a deer in headlights, he chuckled and said, "Oh, looks like we've got a lively one here."
He picked us up one by one and carried us into the church. As I watched him, something clicked in my brain. This all felt so familiar, like déjà vu. 'Wait… isn't this the priest from Black Clover?' My memory scrambled, but I finally remembered his name.
I glanced to my left and saw the hyperactive baby in the basket—none other than the future Wizard King himself, Asta. He was already squirming around like he was trying to break free. On my right was the quiet one: Yuno.
The priest threw a small flame into the fireplace, lighting it up with a flick of his hand. Then, he picked up Yuno and rocked him gently until he calmed down. "There, there," he muttered, finally getting both babies to quiet down.
Then he turned to me, picking me up and holding me at arm's length like he was sizing me up. "Hmm, are you three brothers… maybe triplets?" he muttered.
I instinctively shook my head. 'Wait… why did I just do that?' Panic set in. 'Crap. I blew it. My life might end before it even begins!'
The priest looked surprised and chuckled. "You… do you understand me?"
Feeling cornered, I gave a reluctant nod. His laugh grew louder. "Hehe, I guess you're the smart one, huh? A little genius!" He studied me more closely, then checked the name stitched into my dress. "Hmm… Ryo," he muttered, his gaze lingering on the pendant around my neck.
It was the first time I noticed it, too—a golden pendant with colorful gems surrounding a large white gem in the center. His eyebrows rose in curiosity, but he didn't say much. Instead, he moved to Yuno's basket.
"Yuno," he read aloud, noticing the blue gem pendant with a cross and four stars connected by circular lines. Finally, he turned to the most spirited of us all.
"Now for the lively one," he said, reaching for Asta. But before he could, Asta kicked him square in the nose—while laughing in his sleep, no less. The priest stumbled back, nearly falling, but somehow managed to keep hold of me.
I couldn't help it—I burst out laughing. This guy was a handful already, and we weren't even toddlers yet.
The priest muttered, "A bit too spirited," as he rubbed his nose and looked like he was considering giving Asta a piece of his mind. But in the end, he just sighed and checked Asta's dress "Asta, huh?"
He placed me back into my basket, stood back, and looked at the three of us. With a smile, he declared, "Right. You three don't need to worry about a thing anymore. Starting today, this is your new home… Asta, Ryo, Yuno."
Hearing that made me genuinely happy. Despite the insanity of it all, I couldn't help but laugh again—this time, out of pure joy and relief. My new life in this magical world had officially begun.
