Chapter 5: A loveless unfruitful marriage
"Mom, are you still taking me to the spot you said you love so much when you were still young?" Giselle's daughter, Daisy, asked when she and her mother were in a cab heading to their new house in the USA.
Farida, who arrived with them at the airport, took another route because she wanted to visit her family who she left five years ago. They had been waiting for the day she'd return because they missed her so much, most especially her youngest sister.
"Of, course, we'll do that tomorrow. I'll take you shopping and we'll have fun throughout tomorrow. It will be our first mother and daughter's day in the USA!" Giselle sounded so jovial so she could pass her enthusiasm to her daughter.
"Yay! I cannot wait, Mommy. I wish my godfather will be here with us," she uttered in sadness. "I miss him."
"I know but he has work in the UK. He'd arrive in two weeks, don't you worry. I miss him too but he loves his work and we shouldn't stop him from doing his thing because we want him to ourselves. Wouldn't that be selfish?" Giselle was facing her daughter with a concerned look. She also wished Roland was with her but she was always cautious of her actions because her daughter learned everything through her actions, which eventually would become the little girl's personality.
Giselle wanted her daughter to be a good, well-mannered girl and her little efforts were paying off because her daughter would always say hi to strangers even if they weren't paying attention to her.
And that little girl could tell when someone was feeling down. When Farida's boyfriend cheated on her in the UK and got heartbroken, Daisy would always comfort Farida and would even choose to sleep in Farida's room so she wouldn't be alone.
"And what did I say about being selfish?"
"It's bad Mommy. It's not nice and it hurts people," Daisy replied.
"Very good," Giselle gave her daughter a kiss and decided to FaceTime her Boss, who was more a family member than a boss. Sometimes, it doesn't even show that he was her senior because of how close they were.
"Hi, godfather!" Daisy was the first to greet when he answered the call.
"My baby girl, my sweet little pumpkin," he made that expression of being overwhelmed by one's cuteness. "I miss you so much already!"
"I know. I'm your only friend, of course you'd miss me," Daisy boasted of being her godfather's only friend.
"Awwwww," he replied. "I can't wait to be with my only friend once again."
"I'll be waiting. Friends don't leave friends so I'll let you do your thing and come back to us."
"That's a promise, my love!"
"Godfather…." She paused. "Mommy and I love you!"
"I love you too," Roland replied as he looked at Giselle who had been smiling over the conversation between him and Daisy.
Giselle wasn't aware of it but it was quite obvious that Roland Park wanted her. He had been trying to show it by being there for her throughout her pregnancy and even after and also being Giselle's baby godfather so the little girl wouldn't feel the absence of her real father.
Giselle would thank him every time for being so supportive and how she wished she could do more for him to repay his kindness and love.
"Just stay with me, that's enough for me," Roland would say. "I love what I do because it makes you happy."
"And I love your Mommy too," he said after a little moment of looking at Giselle.
Giselle giggled. "That's beautiful," he said.
"Of course," he responded. "How is Florida?" He changed the topic and their conversation went on with laughter. Apart from when Giselle and Roland were fighting, whenever they were having a conversation, Giselle would always laugh because Roland would find a way to flatter her so much, she giggled or laughed.
Eventually, Giselle and her daughter reached their new house, beholding Roland's work to make it look extraordinarily beautiful and comfortable.
The living room was looking like a place Giselle would love to have as her room because it was so cozy even by looking at it.
There were already maids and servants in the house when they arrived but Giselle decided to take her daughter to her room by herself, help her bathe and dress up.
The maid announced that dinner would be ready soon but as much as Giselle wanted to have lunch with her best friend, Farida just couldn't be around as she would be having dinner with her family.
Giselle assisted Daisy in bathing as the little girl was still in the process of learning how to do some things by herself.
After getting washed up and doing everything necessary, Giselle and her daughter went to the dining room to eat.
Meanwhile, the Banks family was aware of Giselle's return. As they were having dinner, they discussed Giselle's prosperity and how they wished Nolan never gave her that much money.
If only he didn't give that much back then, there wouldn't be a Giselle Bridges who was the CEO of the famous Eve Tech Company.
"Only God knows what she did to my son? He has been missing for five years and since we didn't have any evidence that Giselle has anything to do about his disappearance, we couldn't hold her accountable for it. My son…gone just like that," Nolan mother cried crocodile tears so she could get support from everyone that Giselle didn't deserve where she was at the moment.
They hated her progress and were also threatened by it because she happened to be better than Nolan's father in becoming successful, which took him ten years to build but Giselle spent less that five years building a Company that became more successful than his.
While Giselle's biological family regretted what they did to her years ago. They only saw her successful but didn't see what she passed through to get there and how tough and life threatening it was.
Her mother regretted not being there for her or supporting her dream. The man she married did nothing but bring humiliation to their family when he disappeared.
Even when they were all supporting the Banks family, they still turned against them, accusing them of Nolan's disappearance. They should have believed in their daughter, Giselle instead of forcing her into a loveless unfruitful marriage.
