Chapter 2: Awakening The Beastmaster Editor System!
[ Please note:
—The host must tame the beast before you can utilise the system.
—Editor points can only be acquired by interacting with the novel's main and notable characters.
—The more extreme the edit, the higher the editing point cost. However, if specific conditions are met, fewer points may be required.
—Extreme editing choices may lead to catastrophic outcomes, such as death or destabilising the beast. For example, Changing a water-type beast into an earth-type beast would destroy its evolution path and create an identity crisis. You would have to nurture and recreate everything from scratch.

As Zuriel glanced at his name, he couldn't help but swallow. He knew the identity of the character he had transmigrated into.
Zuriel Zahara! The first son of the Zahara Household!
The novel's name was Tower Of Extinct Beasts. He was a male side character who fled his settlement with his father's help after a rampaging beast horde attacked. He had a friendly rivalry with one of the main characters, which became an intense feud after he uncovered that the main character was one of the primary reasons for the rampaging beast hordes' assault on their settlement.
In his quest for revenge, he risked his life exploring dungeons and gathering resources to strengthen his beasts. By ranking up their power, he also grew stronger himself. However, he faced defeat each time he encountered the main character, losing all his accumulated resources.
He was the main character's cash cow!
He always reappeared whenever the main character needed a resource to escape a specific situation, so the main character always spared his life. Because he felt guilty for being one of the primary reasons for the destruction of their settlement, Zuriel always escaped with only minor injuries and plotted his subsequent encounter.
After several encounters, he realised that no matter how much he cultivated his beasts, he could not catch up to the main character. Frustrated, he made a foolish decision; he attacked one of the main character's close companions—his lover.
That was when things took a turn for the worse, and the main character no longer showed any remorse in ending his life. Surprisingly, he no longer needed any of his resources, having outgrown them.
It was an irritating, cliché plot!
Considering that the supporting character's name was similar to his, it was one of the reasons why he had harshly criticised the novel.
'This might be why I had transmigrated into this character,' Zuriel thought, sensing a growing headache at the back of his head.
It took several minutes before Zuriel calmed his emotions. After taking a few deep breaths and exhaling, he looked at his status screen again.
The mana numerical value represents the amount of mana that an individual possesses. A beastmaster is born with a mana numerical value of zero but automatically acquires one after forming a contract with a magical beast. The higher the mana numerical value, the stronger the beastmaster becomes, allowing them to advance to the next rank.
Beastmasters cannot absorb mana without external help. Due to its dense mythical properties, they can only form contracts with magical beasts or acquire a mana crystal from the dungeon. The stronger the beast and the deeper their bonds, the more potent the mana they can receive.
They would obtain more mana numerical value as they nurture their beasts and contract more magical beasts. This was why the potential of a beast was significant, as forming a contract with a weak magical beast could stifle a beastmaster's growth.
According to the novel's lore, everyone could awaken their talent at twelve. Awakened talents could range from F to SSS rank. Regular people could awaken F to D-class talents. But only a truly talented individual, one in a thousand, could awaken a C-rank talent.
One in a hundred thousand people could awaken a B-ranked talent. One in a million could awaken an A-ranked talent. One in a hundred million people could awaken an S-ranked talent, and one in a billion could awaken an SS-ranked talent.
An SSS-class talent was like a genuine phoenix feather in this world. It was almost unheard of, and even the inhabitants considered them myths.
Yet, Zuriel had seen at least two at the novel's beginning.
Guess who had awakened them?
Was it that obvious?
Two of the novel's three main characters awakened an SSS-ranked beast-taming talent, and the last awakened a rare talent, which the author had hinted would grow to that of an SSS-ranked in the future.
In fact, Zuriel wasn't even sure because the talent was listed as [???].
Zuriel didn't care about how ridiculous their 'cheats' were as long as the story was enjoyable. Still, now that he had found himself in this world, within the novel, where he would have to interact with these individuals before he could utilise his system, Zuriel realised how problematic it would be.
In later chapters, the main characters encounter several individuals with talents as rare as genuine phoenix feathers, from their adversaries to close companions, as though they were picking up stones from the ground.
And when they required rare resources to nurture their beasts so their talents could genuinely shine, Zuriel would show up just in time, seeking revenge.
Fortunately, he still had this talent, which was one of the reasons he had survived his encounters with one of the main characters.
"My talent is still C-ranked, but this is strange... the rank of my beast space has increased," Zuriel muttered.
The beast space rankings were divided from 1-star to 13-star.
The rank of an awakened talent directly correlates to the rank of the beast space an individual can awaken. For example, if an individual awakened an F-ranked talent, they could only awaken a 1-star beast space as small as half a plot of land.
A D-ranked talent could awaken between a 2-star to 4-star beast space; a C-ranked talent could awaken between a 5-star to 7-star beast space; a B-ranked talent could awaken between an 8-star to 10-star beast space; an A-ranked talent could awaken an 11-star to 13-star beast space.
Beast spaces awakened with S, SS, and SSS talents were ranked as abnormal because they couldn't be measured by normal means.
The nature of their awakened talent and beast space would dictate the kind of beast they could contract and their growth. Because of this, the worst thing that could happen to a beastmaster was awakening a conflicting talent and beast space.
However, such a thing rarely happened, so the focus was primarily on awakening the highest star-level beast space.
Though the talent could not be decided, with enough resources, you could also influence the kind of beast space you wanted to awaken. If one does not possess the resources needed, one can only depend on luck to awaken their best space.
The Zahara Household had spent much time influencing the kind of beast space that Zuriel would awaken. It worked. He awakened the 'Blue Spring Oasis,' a 7-star beast space, different from his family's famed 'Rainy Autumn Valley.' However, it had suddenly been elevated to an 8-star beast space.
'Does it have something to do with my soul?' Zuriel thought. He remembered a part of the novel explaining that the soul was responsible for awakening a beast space.
From that perspective, it made sense that his beast space would become more potent after he merged with this body.
Fortunately, he had read most of the novel's early chapters, so he knew the key events that had transpired and would ensure that he seized all of his future harvests, including those of the main characters.
'If I plan correctly, I could survive until the end. I only need to worry about his changes in the novel,' Zuriel thought.
He didn't speak because he feared someone would listen in on his words.
Despite still needing training, due to the care Zuriel had received from his family, his attributes were more exceptional than the others his age, especially for a recurring side character, which was why he survived the main character until he was killed.
Of course, Zuriel was still an early chapter side character, and the main characters would encounter other, more terrifying side characters even before entering the Tower Of Extinct Beasts.
Yes, it was similar to the title of the novel, and according to the author, that was where the plot took flight.
If Zuriel had decided to let go of his revenge, he would have faded into the background. There was a chance he could have survived until the end, but unfortunately, that option didn't apply to him.
