Death Flagged Beastmaster: Gaining Sentience As A Side Character!

Chapter 3: Thunder Reef Tortoise Has A Name!

If he did so, he would be unable to use the Beastmaster Editor System, which was now his greatest asset.

The only thing that left Zuriel worried was his uncertainty about what 'thegreatquill' had changed in the re-edited novel.

He wanted to be hopeful; however, considering that the petty divine being couldn't handle criticism, he at least hoped it was still something he could control.

Zuriel exhaled before fixing his gaze on his tamed beasts and equipment statuses. He remembered that Zuriel's first tamed beast was a Thunder Reef tortoise, a rare water and thunder type beast with a gold potential, a descendant from the bloodline of a Black cloud dragon, and a Ripple Reef tortoise. The former was a Platinum-level beast, and the latter a gold-level beast.

The world of magical beasts was divided into Unevolved, Bronze, Black Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Amethyst, Sovereign, Emperor, Mythical, and Divine.

The Head of the Zahara household spent a considerable sum purchasing the Thunder Reef beast egg after it was discovered and gave it to Zuriel as a gift. As it grew, it would naturally be incredibly powerful among the other beasts of its level.

Of course, that was until it encountered the main character's cheat-level beasts.

Beastmasters are divided into Novice, Elite, Commander, Noble, King, and Emperor, Transcendent, Divine.

A beast's growth directly increases the beastmaster's strength by boosting their mana value until they are prepared to advance to the next rank. With the help of their beast, they could challenge a dungeon, which would increase their strength and the beast's if they completed it.

At the same time, they could accumulate the necessary resources and equipment.

This was why dungeons were highly valued, as they helped both the beastmaster and their beast grow steadily simultaneously.

However, without a powerful magical beast or a good team, one can forget about challenging and clearing a dungeon.

Zuriel looked at the storage ring on his left index finger. It was a plain silver ring with simple, indescribable patterns on its surface.

This ring was a grade four common storage artefact given to him by his father before his departure.

According to his knowledge, ordinary beastmasters could only afford a grade one common storage ring or, if they worked hard, a grade 2. Only an influential family could afford a grade three and higher. Even the Head of the Zahara household had a grade four common storage ring.

For the former Zuriel, it was a bragging right, but after reading the story, he knew they were still at the bottom of the ladder. There were more skilled beastmasters who could afford thousands of these common artefacts.

As Zuriel pondered how to activate the ring, he touched it gently. Immediately, it lit up with a flash of light coming from the indescribable patterns on its surface, and information about how to use it entered his mind.

His mind immediately went into the storage ring. Its storage capacity was 4 cubic meters, equivalent to the cargo space of a small moving truck. The weight limit was 2,000 kilograms (70,548 ounces) of items.

It was filled with foodstuffs, clothing, books, weapons, and other necessities to survive the harsh seas. The Head of the Zahara household had clearly planned well before his departure.

It was moderately durable and had a mild preservation feature of slowing down the decay of perishables by 30%. As a grade four common artefact, it could not compete with the storage capabilities or special effects of higher-grade storage items, which Zuriel intended to obtain.

He remembered that the main character had stumbled upon a grade-one superior storage artefact during the early chapters. Since they were fated to cross paths, he made no hesitation in adding them to his list of things he had to acquire.

Suddenly, a low growl sounded in Zuriel's ears, causing him to snap his head to the side. On the desk on the other side of the room was a tortoise with a smooth, streamlined shell adorned with glowing wave-like patterns and yellow lighting bolts. A small blue jewel was at the certain of its forehead.

It was his magical beast—Thunder Reef Tortoise!

The Thunder reef tortoise's eyes bore intelligence as it observed him intently. Suddenly, it leapt into the air, and before he could react, it crossed the distance separating them instantly and landed on his bed.

BAM!!

Zuriel froze, staring at the bizarre tortoise that had landed on his lap in the blink of an eye. Even though he was now sure that he wasn't in the world he once knew, he still needed some time to adjust to this mythical world.

After a minute, he regained his bearings.

He slowly stretched his hand forward and gently caressed the tortoise's head. It purred cutely under his touch and rolled to the side, sprawling back on his leg.

"It's just like a cute puppy," Zuriel muttered.

He might not have acquired this body's former memories. Still, his memories from reading the novel allowed him to better control his current situation.

Suddenly, a green light flashed before him.

Zuriel looked at Thunder Reef Tortoise's status sheet and nodded in approval. It was just as he remembered.

A magical beast skill is divided into common skills, which belong to a specific species as they evolve, and unique skills, which can be developed through environmental factors, constant battles, or other special conditions, like a dungeon.

Lastly, inherited skills, which, as the same suggests, can be passed down through a parental figure or by their bloodlines. Only magical beasts of particular higher star talent and a unique bloodline can awaken an inherited skill.

A magical beast skill is divided into White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, and Black and subdivided into Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Elite, Expert, Master, and Perfection. The higher the skill and mastery rank, the more powerful it became.

The former Zuriel had cultivated Thunder reef tortoise to the extent that he awakened two additional common skills, combined with his inherited skill––was enough to survive the main character and plan for their subsequent encounter.

However, with the Beastmaster Editor system, Zuriel knew he could go further than that.

After meeting a specific condition with enough editor points, he could add several more tailored, common, unique, and inherited skills. Zuriel also considered slightly altering his bloodlines and evolutionary path. However, after reading the warnings, He would only attempt to do so if necessary.

Zuriel withdrew his hand from below Thunder reef tortoise's chin. He took it under both hands and raised it upward to the level of her gaze.

"How about I give you a name?" Zuriel said, looking at the magical beast's deep blue eye.

Despite developing a stable bond with his tamed beast at the novel's beginning, the former Zuriel had been so involved in his revenge against the main character that he didn't bother naming his beast.

"Okay, then. I will call you Stormshell'. Do you like your new name?" Zuriel said. It was the most domineering name he could think of, so Zuriel was sure he would like it.

He accepted the name, showing how much he craved affection.

[ Tamed beast: Thundereef Tortoise has acquired a new name - Stormshell. ]

[ Your bond strength with your tamed beast has increased: Stable ––> Strong bond (+10% contribution of the beast Mana Numerical Value) ]

[Your mana numerical value has increased 53.5 ––> 56.6 ]

Looking at the notification tabs before his eyes, Zuriel could sense the mana coursing through his being, filling up every fibre of his body.

'It seems that I would have to wait until I accumulate enough mana before I can make any improvements,' Zuriel thought.

Stormshell could only give ten mana numerical value after each tier as a bronze-ranked beast. If he wanted to accumulate more mana, contract more beasts, and grow stronger, Zuriel understood he needed to venture into a dungeon.

"I will be counting on you, big guy, to do your best," Zuriel said, looking at Stormshell.

Stormshell nodded in response, displaying that he understood his thoughts.

Zuriel gently rubbed his small head, causing him to produce soft sounds and squeals. It felt as though Stormshell was urging him to continue. Zuriel soon realized he could hear and understand the beast's thoughts, which deepened their bond.
