Chapter 11
“I know you’re the Rin that Yuki was talking about. What are you doing staring at the ground like an idiot.”
First impressions matter—they say.
“I didn’t know it was you. She told me that her friend was beautiful, so I was looking around.”
“Ha ha, funny one there. You’re about as sardonic as I was told.”
“Is that a compliment?”
“You can take it either way.”
Despite my reaction, it was definitely true that she had beauty, at least conventionally. With long, actually-black hair and sharp yet bright eyes—Yuki’s description was certainly not off the mark. Everything about her, from posture to attitude exuded a sense of superiority.
Not only that, her complexion, her features, everything seemed to blend seamlessly into each other. She wasn’t some computer-generated ideal woman figure, but someone with just enough imperfections to feel distinctly human—perfectly so.
“I’m surprised you decided to see me at all. I would’ve thought that someone like you would have no time for a low-life like me.”
“I’m glad you get it, but still, Yuki asked me to. So I’ll do it.”
“Are you attracted to her and want to use me to get closer to her?”
“I’m going to ignore your completely ignorant question. But I’ll tell you that she’s the only person I’ll listen to.”
“She’s a bit of a goofball, how come?”
Clara sighed.
“She may be a stupid, immature, selfish brat a lot of the time. But she was there when I really needed her, isn’t that reason enough?”
“I didn’t realise things were that deep. Damn.”
There was a moment of silence.
Suddenly, she began to walk closer to me. Her obsidian-black hair swayed in the light breeze.
“Now, Rin Takamiya, I feel I should tell you something.”
Huh.
“How do you know my last nam—”
Our from under her short, checkered skirt, she began to pull out a weapon. It was a large knife with a sophisticated design. Its appearance suggested that it was no mere cooking utensil, but in fact something that will eat flesh.
“I’m going to protect Yuki at all costs, even if that means killing you.”
Wait what.
“Hold on a minute. I barely even know her. Can we wait before you go full yandere?”
“It seems you don’t understand. It makes sense after all, since you’re not from this world.”
“How do you know all that.”
She was approaching me like a cat stalking her prey. At this rate, my throat would be slit right open at any moment. Her enchanting eyes dragged my attention away from the knife, witnessing only the naive bloodlust in her mind.
“I can see your past, Rin Takamiya. That’s my ability.”
“Oh damn.”
“But you know, you’re the only person whose past I can’t see completely. A big chunk of it is missing for some reason.”
“That’s probably a skill issue.”
“…”
Anyways I was in quite a perilous situation. This incredibly-hot psycho girl who I just met is proudly announcing her desire to murder me. Now, a normal person might consider trying to figure what the fuck was going on, but at this rate, all I could do was confuse her until my mind could conjure up a better solution.
If what she’s saying is true (to the extent I could comprehend it), there still didn’t seem to be any reason for her to want to kill me. Unless Yuki was the demon lord in disguise, I don’t think her eminent death could ever be blamed upon me.
As such, I didn’t understand why this Clara girl thought I was such a threat.
—She doesn’t seem to know my whole past anyways.
Well, if she has an ability, I’m guessing that she has mana or aura or whatever they have in this world. Thus, I’m probably cooked in hand-to-hand combat, especially with all my debuffs.
Maybe I should barter with her after all.
“I’ll give you 73 bronze coins if you don’t kill me.”
“You’re a retard.”
She raised her leg. My neck suddenly cranked against my body as I fell to the ground.
It seemed that my bargain with her was not as enticing as I had hoped. Her foot smashing against my ribs was uncomfortable to say the least, but it was interesting to learn more about S&M (Conclusion: the M part is not much fun), and even if I fought back, I would probably get roasted by magic or something.
“Ow.”
“Now I was originally planning on just killing you—”
“Why were you planning on killing me?”
“Because you’re a threat to Yuki.”
“I heard that the first time. But I’m not really a threat to her am I? You’re overreacting.”
“You came from another world. You get all buddy-buddy with her on your first day. Everything about this screams sus. Especially the fact that you used to be a NEET.”
Wait.
“Is this just because you don’t want her hanging around slouchy people?”
“I guess you could explain it like that. You might force yourself onto her.”
“I promise you. She was the one who forced herself into my group. I have no feelings for her, neither romantic not platonic.”
She took a moment to think as if I had just hit her with a huge revelation. Was she really as intelligent as Yuki played her out to be? Maybe social intelligence isn’t included in that category.
She slipped the knife back under her skirt.
“Anyways, what did you have planned for this date?”
Bruh.
She was real quick to switch mood.
“Hey hey, are we just going to forget the whole you wanting to kill me part?”
“Do you not want me to forget that? I’ve still got my knife on me.”
“Okay, maybe forget it for now. Um, we could walk around the park?”
“Works. By the way, the knife was just a test to see your true colours. You’re an absolute idiot, for sure. But, I’m less worried about you doing any harm to Yuki, at least.”
“So you weren’t going to stab me?”
“That would’ve made me a murderer.”
“I’m pretty sure intimidating someone with a knife is also a crime. You probably should’ve thought that through.”
“Can you shut up?”
Suddenly, I was casually walking around the park with the girl who was just about to kill me moments prior.
My neck was still a bit sore as well.
