Chapter 15
“Hey, Clara.”
“What.”
“You don’t mind if I ask a personal question, right?”
“Don’t ask me such a rhetorical question with the base answer being a no. Yes. I do mind.”
Ouch. Still, it wasn’t really a personal question. Well, it was, but it probably wasn’t what she was thinking. I was a bit discombobulated after all the inter-dimensional travel, so the socially acceptable speech-manufacturing section of my brain wasn’t running at full capacity.
“What makeup do you wear?”
“What is wrong with you.”
Hey, hear me out here. It’s the twenty-first century and K-pop idols have more makeup on their face than the average high school girl (speculative). If it could make her face look the way it was, it could take my appearance up several notches.
Wait, but is the makeup for men and women different?
“I just want to know, for myself.”
She sighed.
“You don’t even look that ugly. Work on fixing your personality first.”
Gasp. Did she just compliment me? This is insane. Clara? Complimenting me?
“My personality is nice and quirky, is it not?”
“The fact that you think that makes it so much worse.”
Ah.
Oh well.
It seemed that the conversation died a little. I blame her. Anyways, she was back to solely looking around, probably thinking about stuff—like cock and balls. Regardless, it was probably worth it for me to head back to the city. Wait.
I looked up at the sky.
“Yo, Clara—”
“Don’t ‘yo’ me.”
“You’re pretty negative, aren’t you. I was just going to ask you for the time.”
She took one glance up at the sky.
“It’s around 7:30 pm. Next time, just look up, you fucking idiot.”
What?
“Sorry, but I don’t have the skill to instantly deduce the time from searing my eyes into the sun.”
“First of all, the sun is hardly even there. Secondly, you’re stupid as hell.”
“Well, that’s not very nice.”
Clara simply sat down and continued to read her book.
*
A little while later, I was greeted by the sound of footsteps in the distance. I wonder what Seria was doing for so long to be able to pass so much time in the city. Granted, it wasn’t like there was much to do in our little dirt shack anyway—so it was probably fair that she just wandered around the markets or whatnot.
“Hey Rin! Look what I got!”
She seemed quite excited. I was a little less excited since she wasn’t exactly known for being overly useful; I still kept my hopes up though.
“What did you get, Seria.”
She opened up her palm and showed me some sort of oversized seed.
“What is that?”
“I have no idea. Some random guy gave it to me.”
I guess your aesthetics are quite useful. I’ll give you that at least.
She handed me the large seed and I observed it from a little closer. It was quite bumpy, like herpes and had a big vein running down the middle. I obviously didn’t have any way of telling what it was, but just from the size, I’m assuming it’s a tree.
“Hey, Clara. Do you know what this seed is?”
She begrudgingly got up from the ground and walked over.
“I’m not sure either. It looked like it could be a fruit of some sort.”
That would be quite nice. The main issue was that fruit trees take several years to grow. If this wasn’t accelerated like all the seeds given to me by my system, we’d be senior citizens by the time it starts bearing fruit.
I guess there was no reason not to plant it. I had to plant the rest of my beans anyway.
“Also, Rin. I’m really hungry. You know an apple isn’t enough to keep me full.”
That was quite a problem. I also was getting somewhat peckish but it wasn’t like we had a sustainable food source. I wonder if we could eat EXP beans.
I handed her a few (six to be precise, it’s good to keep track of this type of stuff).
“Make a fire and try cooking these.”
“U-um, yeah.”
Clara had a look at the beans as well.
“I’ve never seen those before. Why do they have a blue tint?”
“I don’t know either.”
“Ah, I should’ve guessed.”
Hey now.
“Also, are you planning on staying here all night or what? I’m surprised you didn’t leave earlier.”
“I would leave. But this is actually a nice place to read my book, especially when your mouth is closed. It’s actually got some peace and quiet, unlike the city.”
“Can’t you read in your house or something?”
“We live with relatives, and I’ve had enough of them asking about my relationship status.”
“Oof.”
There was a moment of silence. Bruh, it’s not that deep. Someone say something.
“Rin, can you help with the fire?! I don’t know how to start one.”
Before I could even respond, Clara made her way over to Seria. Grabbing two twigs, she twisted one on the other, drawing out some smoke before starting a small ignition. There was a small bunch of twigs and leaves which served as enough firewood for the time being.
Wow, it was actually kinda hot how she did that so easily.
She suddenly accosted me with her stern voice as usual.
“Idiot, can you bring me some more firewood?”
“Anything for you, dadd—”
Ah, her glare made me cut myself off mid-sentence.
Anyway, I went and collected some wood. It sure was lucky we basically lived in a junkyard since it made it quite easy to find some.
Seria pierced some of the beans with a twig and roasted them like marshmallows. The three of us sat around the fire and cooked out beans. It was actually quite a nice experience—some beautiful bonding time between friends. The gentle flickering of the fire, the subtle smell of smoke; it was enchanting.
Once they looked decently cooked, we had a tas—
“This tastes fucking terrible.”
