Chapter 52: Chapter 53: Goodbye, Tanjiro
The room was quiet.
Only the crackling sound of the flames breaking the silence.
"Congratulations on becoming a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps," said Sakonji Urokodaki in a calm tone.
"Hmm," Feng Yu replied.
Nezuko, sitting nearby, was eating the Detoxifying Pills that Feng Yu had given her, looking completely content.
Nezuko could feel her strength increasing with every pill, and she couldn't help but grow dependent on Feng Yu. Like a little kitten, after finishing one, she would gaze up at him with longing eyes.
Feng Yu gently ruffled her hair, and Nezuko savored the sensation. She stretched out both hands, looking at him with an eager expression.
"Alright, stop looking at me like that..." Feng Yu smiled helplessly as he took out six more Detoxifying Pills and handed them to her.
Nezuko picked one up and placed it in her mouth, then slyly set aside three more for later.
Feng Yu understood that Nezuko was saving them for Tanjiro, and he couldn't help but feel blessed to have such a sister.
"You shouldn't give her so many. These pills are clearly precious, more effective than the ones developed by the Demon Slayer Corps. They contain far more energy," Sakonji Urokodaki said. "You should be thinking more about yourself..."
"It's fine," Feng Yu replied. "Looking at Nezuko, these Detoxifying Pills can replenish the energy her body needs. They're especially effective in helping suppress her cravings for human flesh."
"Yes, demons eat humans because the human body holds the energy they need..."
Feng Yu and Sakonji Urokodaki's conversation lapsed into silence.
Just then, the door creaked open.
"I'm back!" Tanjiro shouted, drenched from head to toe.
"Ah, Feng Yu-nii, you're back?" Tanjiro said, surprised as he noticed Feng Yu in the room.
"Long time no see, Tanjiro!" Feng Yu smiled warmly.
"Long time no see, Feng Yu-nii," Tanjiro said happily, but soon shivered, his wet clothes dripping water onto the wooden floor.
"Ah, I'll go change clothes first..." Tanjiro said awkwardly, quickly heading for the back room.
"Has Tanjiro begun training in the Water Breathing techniques?" Feng Yu asked.
"Yes," Urokodaki said. "This child doesn't have your natural talent, so he has to work even harder. He's been training at a very intense pace, hoping to quickly gain enough strength to find a way to turn his sister back into a human."
"He's different from you. He has a clear goal, while you don't seem to feel strongly about the Demon Slayer Corps or its hierarchy," Urokodaki continued, his voice growing stern. "I just hope you don't end up doing anything that harms humanity."
"Mm," Feng Yu acknowledged quietly. His purpose in this world was to survive and become stronger, and learning from Urokodaki was just the first step. The Demon Slayer Corps' mission and its structured hierarchy were of little concern to him, especially after having lived in an egalitarian 21st-century society where such ideas didn't hold sway.
"Tanjiro's future path will be incredibly difficult. I hope you'll help him along the way," Urokodaki said.
At that moment, Tanjiro returned, now in dry clothes. He patted Nezuko's head before sitting down next to the fire.
"Here, drink this," Urokodaki said, handing Tanjiro a bowl of hot soup.
"Thank you, Urokodaki-sensei," Tanjiro said, taking the bowl and quickly slurping it down.
"Ah, hot, hot, hot!" he winced as the soup burned his throat but managed to swallow it.
"Ah~," he sighed in contentment. "So warm!"
Nezuko slowly walked over, carefully sitting between Feng Yu and Tanjiro. She reached into her small bag and pulled out three Detoxifying Pills, placing them in Tanjiro's hands.
"What's this?" Tanjiro asked, looking at Feng Yu and Urokodaki in confusion.
Urokodaki remained silent, but Feng Yu smiled and explained, "Your sister left these for you. Just take them."
"Thank you, Feng Yu-nii!" Tanjiro quickly grabbed Nezuko's hands and thanked him. He knew the value of these pills and their extraordinary effects. Looking at Nezuko's small bag, which was clearly bulging, he could guess how many Feng Yu had given her.
"Alright, we're all brothers and sisters here. No need to be so polite. If I gave them to you, just take them," Feng Yu said. "These pills no longer serve me, but they're very useful to you right now."
Feng Yu took a small sip of his soup and then added, "It's really good."
"I'll be staying here for a while, so during this time, I'll help guide your training, Tanjiro," Feng Yu said, smiling.
Tanjiro hesitated, his heart racing as Feng Yu's smile reminded him of the past. A feeling of unease washed over him.
"F-Feng Yu-nii, thank you…" Tanjiro stammered.
Urokodaki said nothing, but he seemed to approve of Feng Yu's actions. He could feel that Feng Yu's strength had far surpassed his own, and it was a good thing for Tanjiro to receive guidance from him.
"Truly a genius at a young age…" Urokodaki thought, hidden behind his Tengu mask, as he watched Feng Yu, his mind racing.
The next morning, Tanjiro woke up early and stood outside, holding his sword, waiting for Feng Yu.
"Good morning, Feng Yu-nii!" Tanjiro greeted him.
"Morning," Feng Yu replied, splashing some water on his face and wiping it off. He noticed Xiao Bai was still asleep.
"Xiao Bai's energy fluctuations are getting stronger. Is she close to a successful transformation?" he thought. "I wonder what changes will occur once she transforms..."
After gently patting her head, he left the room.
"Let's go," Feng Yu said.
"Yes, Feng Yu-nii," Tanjiro replied.
The two of them walked toward the waterfall deep in the mountains.
"Do you know why Urokodaki-sensei asked you to train here?" Feng Yu asked.
"I know. It's to help me blend better with the water and master the Water Breathing technique more quickly!" Tanjiro replied confidently.
"Good. Now, hurry up. Remember, no matter how strong the current is, your goal is to first adjust your breathing, maintain balance, and synchronize your body with the flow of water…" Feng Yu explained.
"Yes, Feng Yu-nii!" Tanjiro replied eagerly and ran toward a large rock at the base of the waterfall, sitting cross-legged.
The cold water slammed down relentlessly onto Tanjiro's body. He shivered under the force of the current, finding it difficult even to remain seated, let alone focus on his breathing.
"Unsteady posture, chaotic breathing…" Feng Yu murmured from a distance. "Looks like we need to start with posture training first..."
A small smile formed on Feng Yu's face as he watched Tanjiro struggle. Little did Tanjiro know, the training he was about to face would be far more intense than anything he had ever imagined.
