Chapter 10: Sayori
Sayori was an average girl in this magical world. She had a crush on her childhood best friend, MC, and was known for being the kind-hearted girl in their circle. Her magical abilities were primarily focused on healing and light, which suited her gentle nature. However, there was something unique about her that most people didn't know—her eyes held a secret power.
With her magical eyes activated, Sayori could see the essence of every soul around her. It was a gift that allowed her to discern the true nature of people, to understand their intentions, and to connect deeply with others. This ability had helped her make genuine friendships and steer clear of those with darker motives.
As she strolled through the bustling streets of their town, lost in her thoughts, she accidentally bumped into someone. Looking up, she immediately felt the activation of her magical eyes, and what she saw sent a chill down her spine.
Before her stood Hikari, his soul a swirling mass of black that seemed to echo with the depth of an abyss, punctuated by glowing green eyes that pierced through her. The intensity of his presence was overwhelming, making her heart race with fear. She quickly averted her gaze, trying to shake off the unsettling feeling.
"Oh! I'm so—" she began, but the words caught in her throat. The realization hit her like a ton of bricks: Hikari was not just any boy. He was different, shrouded in a mystery that made her instinctively wary.
Hikari noticed her hesitation and, for a moment, his facade slipped. The smile he wore felt strained, a reflection of the emotional turmoil he was trying to suppress. "Hey, you okay, Sayori?"
Sayori took a deep breath, her heart pounding. "Y-yeah, I'm fine! Just a bit surprised, I guess." Her voice was shaky as she looked back at him, hoping to mask her unease. But deep down, she felt a pull towards him, an urge to understand the darkness that surrounded his soul.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, forcing a smile to lighten the mood. "I thought you'd be busy with… whatever it is you do."
Hikari shrugged, his expression neutral. "Just exploring, I guess. Trying to get a handle on things. You know how it is."
Sayori studied him, trying to decipher the enigma he had become. "You seem… different. Are you okay? You know you can talk to me, right?"
Hikari's eyes flickered for a moment, betraying the turmoil beneath his calm exterior. "I appreciate that, Sayori. But honestly, I'm not sure how to explain what's going on with me." He hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. "There's just a lot on my mind."
As they stood there, the world around them seemed to fade. Sayori felt a strong desire to reach out, to offer him the same kindness she extended to others. "You don't have to go through things alone, you know. I can help if you want."
Hikari raised an eyebrow, intrigued yet cautious. "Help? What do you mean?"
With a genuine smile, Sayori replied, "I mean I can help you find your way. I may not know everything about magic or darkness, but I can be your friend. I can help you see the light."
A flicker of something—perhaps hope or curiosity—crossed Hikari's face. "Light, huh?" he mused, his tone softening slightly. "I suppose that's not such a bad idea."
"Yeah!" Sayori's enthusiasm was infectious. "Together, we can figure this out. And who knows? Maybe we'll even make some amazing memories along the way."
Hikari let out a small chuckle, a sound that surprised both of them. "Memories, huh? I guess I could use a few of those."
Sayori's heart soared at the sound of his laughter, even if it was brief. Perhaps this was the beginning of a new chapter for Hikari, a chance for him to connect with others despite the darkness that surrounded him. "So, what do you want to do?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Hikari pondered for a moment, his expression thoughtful. "Let's start with something simple. Maybe you can show me your healing spells?"
Sayori's face lit up with delight. "Of course! Healing magic is one of my favorites! I'll show you everything I know!"
As they began to walk together, Sayori felt a sense of determination. She would not let Hikari drift into the abyss. She would be there, a light in his life, no matter how challenging it became. Perhaps, together, they could unravel the mysteries of their world and of themselves.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, the Wizard Safety Commission kept a watchful eye on Hikari. Their concerns about him were growing, especially with the rumors surrounding his abilities. They knew that he was becoming a force to be reckoned with, and the implications of that were both exciting and terrifying.
As Hikari and Sayori continued their conversation, the path before them was uncertain, but one thing was clear: their journey had only just begun.
As Hikari and Sayori walked through the vibrant streets of their magical town, the air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of laughter from other students enjoying their day. Despite the colorful surroundings, Hikari felt the weight of his thoughts pressing down on him, but Sayori's cheerful demeanor helped lighten the burden just a little.
"Okay, so where do you want to practice healing magic?" Sayori asked, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm. "I know a great spot by the river where we can have some privacy."
"Sure, that sounds good," Hikari replied, trying to push his worries aside. "Lead the way."
As they made their way to the riverbank, Sayori animatedly explained the basics of her healing spells. "Healing magic is all about intention and focus. You have to really want to help someone. It's not just about the magic; it's about the connection you have with them."
Hikari nodded, intrigued by her passion. "Sounds simple enough. So, what's the first step?"
When they reached the riverbank, Sayori gestured to the shimmering water. "First, we'll start with some simple spells. I'll show you how to channel your magic through your hands."
She took a deep breath and extended her hands over the water, concentrating. A soft golden light began to radiate from her palms, gradually intensifying until it formed a shimmering orb. "This is a basic healing orb. With it, I can help mend small injuries or soothe pain."
Hikari watched in awe as she gently lowered the orb into the water, watching it merge with the river's current. "That's amazing! It's like the water is alive with your magic!"
Sayori beamed at his compliment. "Thanks! Now it's your turn. Try to channel your magic into a small object first. It's easier that way."
Hikari hesitated, unsure of his own abilities. "What if I mess it up?"
"Don't worry!" Sayori encouraged. "Just focus on your intention. You can do this!"
Taking a deep breath, Hikari looked around for a small stone. He found one that was smooth and flat, holding it in his palm. He closed his eyes and concentrated, recalling the way Sayori had focused her magic.
"Okay, let's see what I can do," he whispered to himself, feeling a slight pulse of energy within him. He imagined a warm glow surrounding the stone, a sense of healing energy flowing from him into it. Slowly, he opened his eyes and felt the air shift around him.
To his surprise, a faint green light began to flicker at his fingertips, dancing across the surface of the stone. Sayori's eyes widened in delight. "Yes! You're doing it, Hikari!"
Encouraged by her excitement, Hikari focused harder, feeling the energy swell. The stone began to radiate a soft, comforting glow, illuminating their surroundings with a gentle light. He couldn't believe it. "I did it!"
"Now, try sending that energy into the stone!" Sayori instructed, her voice filled with encouragement.
Hikari focused again, directing the energy into the stone with all his might. As he did, the glow intensified, transforming the stone into a small healing orb, reminiscent of Sayori's. Hikari couldn't help but smile at the achievement.
"Wow! That's incredible!" Sayori clapped her hands in joy. "You've got the hang of it already!"
Feeling a surge of pride, Hikari glanced at the healing orb in his palm. "I guess it wasn't as hard as I thought."
"Now, remember, healing magic isn't just about creating light. It's about understanding the pain and helping to ease it. When you're ready, we can try using it on something real," Sayori said, her expression growing serious.
"Like what?" Hikari asked, intrigued.
"Well, there's a stray cat that sometimes hangs around this area. I saw it limping the other day. If we find it, we can help it out," Sayori suggested, her eyes sparkling with determination.
Hikari hesitated, recalling the shadows he had seen in his own soul. "Are you sure it's worth it? What if it doesn't want our help?"
Sayori frowned slightly, her usual cheer dimming. "Every life deserves a chance, Hikari. Sometimes they just need someone to show them kindness."
Hikari thought about her words. He understood the weight of pain all too well. "Okay. Let's find that cat."
They began their search, wandering through the nearby alleyways and fields. Hikari noticed Sayori's unwavering focus; she scanned the area with her magical eyes, seeking the faintest glimmer of a wounded soul.
Finally, they came across the small, scruffy cat curled up under a bush. It looked up at them with wide, frightened eyes, its front leg raised slightly as if in pain. Sayori knelt down, her expression softening. "Hey there, little one. We're not going to hurt you. We just want to help."
Hikari stayed back, observing the cat's wary demeanor. "Are you sure it'll let us?"
Sayori nodded reassuringly. "Let me try talking to it first."
With gentle words, she approached the cat, speaking softly and extending her hand. "It's okay. I'm Sayori. I promise I won't hurt you."
Gradually, the cat relaxed, allowing Sayori to stroke its fur. Hikari could see the tension in its body start to ease. "Now we can try the healing spell," she said, looking back at Hikari.
He took a deep breath and approached, focusing on the warm energy he had conjured earlier. "I'll give it a try."
With Sayori beside him, he knelt down and gently placed his hand over the cat's injured leg, channeling the healing magic he had just learned. The familiar green glow enveloped his hand, radiating warmth.
The cat's eyes widened in surprise, but it remained still, as if sensing Hikari's intention. Slowly, the glow transferred to the injured leg, causing the cat to relax even further.
"I can feel it working!" Sayori exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement.
After a few moments, Hikari withdrew his hand, and they both watched in awe as the cat stood up and tested its leg. It limped a little at first, but soon began to walk normally, its initial fear fading away.
"See? You did it!" Sayori cheered, clapping her hands.
Hikari felt a sense of accomplishment wash over him, but he couldn't shake the thought that it was just a small step. "It's just a cat. I mean, it's nice and all, but…"
"But it matters!" Sayori interjected, her eyes sparkling with fervor. "Every little bit of kindness counts. You're starting to understand what it means to help others."
Hikari looked at her, realizing that perhaps there was more to this journey than he had anticipated. Maybe being connected to others wasn't such a bad thing.
As the cat wandered away, its tail high in the air, Hikari felt a flicker of warmth in his heart. Maybe Sayori was right; maybe they could make a difference together, no matter how small.
Little did they know, back at the Wizard Safety Commission, Leo was watching their progress with keen interest, noting how Hikari's journey was unfolding. There was something special about the bond forming between Hikari and Sayori, something that might just change the course of their world.
With newfound determination, Hikari turned to Sayori. "Okay, what's next? I want to learn more."
Sayori's face lit up with excitement. "Let's keep practicing! There's so much more to healing magic, and I can't wait to show you!"
As they walked back to the riverbank, Hikari couldn't help but feel a sense of hope rising within him. Maybe this world held more possibilities than he had ever imagined.
After a while Hikari arrived back to his house and went to his room, Hikari flopped onto his bed, letting out a deep sigh as he gazed at Valerion, the chibi dragon perched on his desk. The little creature's eyes sparkled with curiosity, his wings fluttering slightly as he listened intently.
"You seem to be in a mood," Valerion observed, tilting his head in a way that made him look adorably inquisitive.
Hikari shrugged, his mind racing with thoughts from his earlier encounter with Sayori. "Emotion is just stimulation and chemicals released by the brain so you can feel something. They're just called that because people want connection."
Valerion flapped his wings and landed on Hikari's shoulder, nuzzling against his neck. "You know, even if emotions are just chemicals, they can still be powerful. They can inspire you, motivate you, and connect you to others."
Hikari rolled his eyes, not wanting to admit that Valerion might have a point. "But they also lead to pain and suffering. It's messy. I'd rather keep my distance and avoid that chaos."
The chibi dragon's expression softened. "That's understandable, but isolating yourself can be just as painful. You've started to connect with Sayori and others. Isn't that worth something?"
"Maybe," Hikari muttered, staring at the ceiling. "But it's not like I'm trying to be their hero or anything. I don't want the burden of saving everyone. I just want to get stronger and figure things out."
"Strength isn't just physical, you know," Valerion replied, his voice earnest. "Emotional strength is just as important. It allows you to understand others and work together. Plus, the bonds you form can give you power you didn't know you had."
Hikari turned to face Valerion, contemplating his words. "Bonds can also become weaknesses. If I care about someone and they get hurt, I'll feel it deeply. It's a risk I'm not sure I want to take."
"Life is full of risks, Hikari," Valerion countered, his tone firm but gentle. "But isn't it better to have people you can rely on? You can't fight everything alone."
Hikari closed his eyes, replaying moments from his day in his mind. He thought of Sayori's bright smile, her infectious enthusiasm, and the warmth he felt when he had healed the stray cat. Despite his resistance, a flicker of something akin to connection pulsed within him.
"Maybe," he admitted reluctantly. "But it still feels overwhelming."
Valerion hopped off his shoulder and landed on the desk, looking up at Hikari with big, encouraging eyes. "Just take it one step at a time. You don't have to change overnight. Start by letting people in a little bit at a time. You might find that you enjoy it more than you think."
Hikari frowned, torn between his instinct to shut out the world and the small spark of curiosity that Valerion was igniting within him. "I'll think about it. But for now, I need to focus on training. If I'm going to be strong, I can't let distractions get in my way."
Valerion nodded, accepting his resolve. "Fair enough. Just remember, I'm here to help you with whatever you choose. Whether that means battling or understanding emotions, we'll figure it out together."
"Thanks, Valerion," Hikari said, a hint of a smile breaking through his usual stoic demeanor. "I appreciate it."
As he settled into his training routine, Hikari felt the familiar weight of his worries lifting just a little. Valerion's words echoed in his mind, urging him to embrace the connections he had started to form, even if he wasn't ready to fully accept them yet.
With determination, Hikari began to practice his magic again, channeling the energy within him. As he conjured spells, he found that the memory of Sayori's bright eyes and the warmth of the stray cat's healing lingered in his thoughts.
Perhaps, just maybe, the journey ahead wouldn't be as solitary as he had envisioned.
