Chapter 140: Chapter 139: Ma Hongjun: Living Like This is Worse Than Death!

At this moment, Tang San couldn't hold back his emotions any longer. He roared in anger, "Xiao Wu!"

Everyone on the wooden dragon turned to look at Tang San with surprise. Why was his reaction so intense? And why was he only worried about Xiao Wu, not even sparing a thought for Su Ming? Weren't they from the same village?

After a moment, Ning Rongrong, feeling her act had gone on long enough, "regained consciousness." Zhu Zhuqing gave her a puzzled glance, silently asking, Why did you faint in the first place?

Ning Rongrong shook her head, signaling that she was fine.

Shortly after, Ma Hongjun woke up as well—but his awakening was driven by pain. "Ahhh!"

"My whole body hurts so much!"

Seeing this, Oscar hurriedly stuffed one of his freshly-made Big Recovery Sausages into Ma Hongjun's mouth. Although the sausage couldn't restore Ma Hongjun's limbs to their original state, it could at least alleviate some of the pain and speed up the healing process.

However, as for Ma Hongjun's second brother—well, the outcome was tragic. It had been utterly pulverized and was beyond repair. From now on, he would never be able to visit the red-light district again. For someone like Ma Hongjun, this was the cruelest punishment imaginable—he might as well be dead to spare himself the torment.

After eating Oscar's sausage, Ma Hongjun felt the pain subside significantly. Confused, he asked, "Teacher Zhao, we didn't die? We're still alive?"

Then, looking at the wooden dragon below them, he scanned the group and wondered, Why is Su Ming's wooden dragon here, but Su Ming himself isn't? And Xiao Wu is also missing?

Hmm? Why are Tang San's eyes so red?

These thoughts flitted through his mind, but his primary concern was whether they had really escaped from the Titan Giant Ape and how they managed to do so.

Zhao Wuji, his face pale and tired, explained helplessly, "We're alive, but Su Ming and Xiao Wu probably aren't coming back. The two of them used the wooden dragon to send us away, sacrificing themselves to buy us time. Unfortunately, they were captured by the Titan Giant Ape and are most likely doomed."

At this moment, Zhao Wuji thought to himself, What a shame to lose such promising talents as Su Ming and Xiao Wu. Even though they were commoners, their talent and strength were exceptional. With them, Shrek Academy's future would have been bright.

Still, sacrificing the two of them to save the rest of us was worth it. After all, some of these students come from extraordinary backgrounds—Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Star Luo Empire's royal family, and even the Clear Sky Douluo. I couldn't afford to lose any of them. Now, they're all safe, and I'm alive too. I'd say this turned out quite well overall!

This was Zhao Wuji's honest opinion. Compared to the lives of two commoners, he believed his life and those of these influential students were more valuable. If they showed even a bit of gratitude, Shrek Academy could only grow stronger!

Ma Hongjun's emotions were complicated upon hearing this. He hadn't expected Su Ming and Xiao Wu to sacrifice themselves to save everyone. However, when he thought about his current state—unable to live the same life as before—he felt it would be better to die. Living like this was meaningless.

Ning Rongrong, standing nearby, refuted, "I don't believe Su Ming would die so easily. He's incredibly talented and strong—good fortune will surely protect him!"

The others didn't argue with her. They felt there was no point in debating something so uncertain.

At that moment, the wooden dragon carried the group far from their previous location before transforming back into a pile of wood and disappearing. After all, without Su Ming's control, the soul skill couldn't last long and would naturally vanish when its soul power was depleted.

Seeing that the surrounding area seemed relatively safe, Zhao Wuji decided to let everyone rest for a bit before moving on.

Turning to Oscar, he instructed, "Oscar, make more of your Big Recovery Sausages so we can recover some soul power quickly. Staying in the Star Dou Forest for too long is too dangerous. Who would've thought the Titan Giant Ape would appear on the outskirts of the forest? Something's definitely not right here!"

Oscar nodded and immediately began chanting his incantation to produce more sausages.

Then Zhao Wuji turned to Tang San and said, "Xiao San, it seems like you'll have to wait until next time for your third soul ring. Next time, I'll bring Flender with us. This situation was just too strange. It's my fault we lost Su Ming and Xiao Wu. Sigh."

After speaking, Zhao Wuji sat cross-legged and began restoring his own soul power.

Tang San, however, wasn't listening to Zhao Wuji's words. He was only focused on one thing: since the Titan Giant Ape hadn't killed Xiao Wu and Su Ming on the spot, it meant they weren't in immediate danger. He had to rescue Xiao Wu as soon as possible!

As for the third soul ring? That would have to wait.

Quietly, he said to Oscar, "Oscar, give me a few more of your Flying Mushroom Sausages."

Oscar turned to look at Tang San, whose eyes were bloodshot, and immediately guessed his intentions. Tang San must be planning to go rescue Xiao Wu and Su Ming on his own. That's a suicide mission!

Hesitating, Oscar heard Tang San speak in a low and pleading voice, "Oscar, I'm begging you. If you think of me as a brother, please give me the Flying Mushroom Sausages. I have to go. Even if it's just to bring back a body—otherwise, I'll regret it for the rest of my life!"

Oscar wasn't clueless—far from it. He was smarter than both Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun. Tang San's emotional state was evident, with his reddened eyes and earlier cries for Xiao Wu. Not once had he mentioned Su Ming.

To Oscar, it was clear: Tang San's only goal was to save Xiao Wu—or at least bring back her body. As for Su Ming? That seemed secondary at best.

This puzzled Oscar. Tang San and Su Ming were from the same village and had been schoolmates at the same academy. Why was Tang San so indifferent to Su Ming?

Moreover, Oscar had noticed something odd—Tang San seemed to harbor some strange feelings toward Xiao Wu. Could it be that Tang San liked Xiao Wu?

The more Oscar thought about it, the more convinced he became of his theory. It explained why Tang San was so unconcerned about Su Ming. After all, it was obvious that Xiao Wu and Su Ming had feelings for each other, even if they hadn't admitted it yet.

What Oscar didn't realize was that his guess was only partially correct. The other reason for Tang San's attitude toward Su Ming was that Su Ming completely overshadowed him. Tang San's Blue Silver Grass seemed like a cheap knockoff compared to Su Ming's wood-element control, which could attack, defend, and support—a truly all-encompassing ability!
