Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Two-on-Two Battle
Chapter 70: Two-on-Two Battle
In truth, for Yang Potian, winning this Spirit Battle had been relatively easy. In particular, his spear energy attacks could have targeted his opponent's weak points directly. However, this was a formal arena match, intended as a test of skills where killing was strictly forbidden. As such, Yang Potian's spear energy pierced his opponent's body rather than aiming for lethal points like the head or vital organs.
Even the final move, Sweeping Army, could have been executed with a more aggressive attack using the edge of his spear, but he held back intentionally. Given Yang Potian's mastery of spear techniques, spear energy, and even the slashing force of his spear blade, his skill set in the Soul Elder level arena felt almost like a cheat.
The release of spear energy was both faster and more straightforward than a traditional spirit ability, allowing him to injure his opponent instantly. Though ordinary spirit masters might not comprehend the significance of Yang Potian's techniques and spear energy, high-ranking spirit masters watching clearly recognized his strength.
Mr. Li Xiang, a teacher at Heaven Dou Imperial Academy, had been exposed to many techniques and understood Yang Potian's remarkable combat abilities. After witnessing the battle, he couldn't help but swallow nervously, wondering if any Heaven Dou Academy students could match him despite his claims of lacking battle experience.
When Yang Potian returned to the group, the other three stared at him as if he were a monster. Even Yang Ping'an rarely saw his brother's full combat prowess in action.
Yang Ping'an and Dugu Yan soon entered their own one-on-one Spirit Battles, both emerging victorious. After years of training with Yang Potian, Yang Ping'an's physical conditioning and combat experience set him apart from other Great Spirit Masters, while Dugu Yan, at level 29, had little trouble in her own match.
Next up was a two-on-two battle featuring Yang Potian and Ye Lingling.
Their opponents were two Level 35 Soul Elders, twin hammer-wielders who went by the title Hammer Brothers.
This battle was even simpler. Tool spirit masters, particularly in the early stages, generally had weaker physical conditioning than beast spirit masters, who couldn't directly enhance their physical strength through spirit possession. With Ye Lingling supporting him, Yang Potian easily managed a two-versus-one approach.
The Hammer Brothers' combined defenses were shattered by Yang Potian's White Crane Spreads Its Wings. Even when they used their spirit abilities, they couldn't hold their ground. Next, Yang Potian unleashed Uproot Mountains, stunning them with raw power.
One spear energy strike drilled a hole through one brother's arm, and with a quick sweeping motion, he eliminated him. Then, with only two moves, Yang Potian closed in on the remaining brother, pressing his spear to the opponent's throat.
The entire fight took just over a minute, ending so quickly that Ye Lingling didn't even have a chance to use her healing ability.
When they returned to the team, Ye Lingling still seemed dazed. She hadn't expected the battle to be so swift and straightforward.
With minimal energy expenditure, Yang Potian prepared for another match with Dugu Yan. Their opponents this time were two Level 37 beast spirit masters with fairly good teamwork.
But in less than three minutes, Yang Potian and Dugu Yan claimed victory once again.
That evening, Yang Potian fought three matches, winning each one in record time. When Mr. Li Xiang gathered them for the debrief, he analyzed the fights for Dugu Yan and Yang Ping'an but struggled with Yang Potian's. His battles had ended so quickly that there was hardly anything to critique.
Afterward, the five rode back to Heaven Dou Imperial Academy, and Yang Potian retrieved his winnings from Mr. Li, a tidy sum of over 50,000 gold spirit coins, thanks to the favorable odds for his first fights.
Back at the dorm, Yang Potian replayed the battles in his mind. Although his opponents were weaker, each fight gave him valuable insights. Moreover, post-battle meditation seemed to quicken his cultivation speed. The Soul Breaker Spear was truly the ideal battle spirit, strengthening him after each fight.
The next morning, after weapon training with Yang Ping'an, Yang Potian chose to skip his classes, finding them unhelpful. Instead, he located a suitable mimicry environment to continue his meditation. Heaven Dou's mimicry spaces were top-notch, extensive, and diverse, making them far more useful for training than the classroom.
That afternoon, when Yang Potian arrived at the newly transformed training ground, he was impressed by the academy's efficiency. His request hadn't been overly complex, yet they had completed the modifications overnight—surely the work of construction-type spirit masters.
The others arrived shortly after, stunned by the drastic changes to the training ground.
Yang Potian addressed the group, "You've seen the changes to the training ground. Yesterday was basic weighted running, but from today onward, it's obstacle-weighted running. Start with yesterday's weight, and we'll see if adjustments are needed based on your performance."
Yang Ping'an and the others stared at the revamped training ground in horror.
Yesterday had already exhausted them, and now they were adding obstacles? How would they survive this?
Without giving them time to complain, Yang Potian picked up an additional weight and began running. On top of his usual weights, he always carried an extra load for each training session.
Yang Ping'an took a deep breath and followed suit.
The others reluctantly joined, carrying their weights as they tackled the obstacle course.
Watching the scene unfold, Mr. Li Xiang's face twitched in disbelief. The intensity of this training would be challenging even for him. And looking at the range of obstacles Yang Potian had devised, he could only marvel at the level of thought that had gone into it.
Nonetheless, he focused on monitoring the group's weighted obstacle run, which presented far more challenges than simple weighted running, sometimes even bordering on dangerous.
