Chapter 69: The First Battle in the Arena

Once Yang Potian finished explaining everything, the afternoon training began.

After a few training sessions with Yang Potian, Dugu Yan had grown accustomed to carrying weights, while Ye Lingling opted for the smallest weight at 5 kilograms, joining the group for weighted running. Mr. Li Xiang assisted by supervising the group and monitoring everyone's physical condition.

By the end of the afternoon, everyone was thoroughly exhausted. Ye Lingling, especially, was completely drained and collapsed to the ground, without any of her usual ladylike grace.

With training complete, Mr. Li arranged for everyone to go for their medicinal baths. He even had to carry the two girls, as they were too exhausted to walk.

The baths lasted an hour, during which everyone regained their energy. For Niu Meng, Tai Long, Bai Xiaofei, and Ye Lingling, it was their first time experiencing training of such intensity. During the medicinal baths, they felt as though every pore in their body had opened up, leaving them feeling rejuvenated.

Once the baths were done, the group of eight headed to the Heaven Dou Academy dining hall for a large meal to restore their energy and ensure proper nutrition. The sight of them devouring their food like starving refugees left the noble students around them stunned, with many pointing and whispering, which made Dugu Yan and Ye Lingling blush.

After dinner, everyone was free to spend time as they wished. Niu Meng, Tai Long, and Bai Xiaofei, who had lower spirit power, headed to their preferred mimicry environments for cultivation, while Mr. Li accompanied Yang Potian, Yang Ping'an, Dugu Yan, and Ye Lingling as they left for the Great Spirit Arena in Heaven Dou City.

Heaven Dou Academy was only 20 kilometers from the city. By carriage, the trip took around half an hour, and even less if they used spirit beast horses.

Upon arriving at the Spirit Arena, the four of them, who had never participated in battles there, registered as members and filled out their information, including their names, ages, hometowns, and spirits. Each of them increased their age on the forms, with Yang Potian listing himself as 20 years old, and the others also adjusting their ages to around 20.

After registering, they each received an Iron Spirit Badge.

In the Spirit Arena, fighters typically didn't use their real names, instead going by chosen titles. Yang Potian went with "Silver Spear on White Horse," Yang Ping'an chose "The Spear That Shatters Worlds," Dugu Yan took "Jade Phosphor Poison Queen," and Ye Lingling selected "Immortal Begonia." Each name suited their personalities and the traits of their spirits.

Yang Potian also created several two-person teams: he and Yang Ping'an formed the "Twin Soul Spears," with Dugu Yan, he formed the "Jade Phosphor Soul Breakers," and with Ye Lingling, the "Soul Begonia."

Yang Potian's daily plan was to participate in one solo fight and at least one two-on-two fight, rotating partners based on the day's circumstances. He instructed Yang Ping'an and Dugu Yan to participate in at least one fight each day, while Ye Lingling only needed to join two-person matches and handle any healing.

Mr. Li assisted by gathering intelligence, preparing the group for battles, and analyzing the fights afterward—a simple task for an academy teacher.

When Yang Potian's match was about to begin, he handed Mr. Li a bag containing 10,000 gold spirit coins, asking him to bet it on his victory.

Yang Potian then entered the battlefield through the contestants' entrance. The arena was massive, spanning dozens of meters in length and width. The grandstands were packed with people, and the venue was even larger than a modern basketball or soccer stadium, with tens of thousands of spectators.

As soon as Yang Potian and his opponent entered, a wave of cheers erupted, louder than any concert Yang Potian could remember.

In the Spirit Arena, fighters rarely showed their real faces, often wearing masks. Yang Potian had donned a silver mask, concealing his age.

As they stood ready, the announcer introduced them. "Now entering, our first contestant: Silver Spear on White Horse! Spirit power: Level 35 Soul Elder, Spirit: Soul Breaker Spear. This is his first match."

Yang Potian's image, spirit, and spirit power appeared on the big screen.

"Facing him is the Mighty King! Spirit power: Level 38 Soul Elder, Spirit: Mighty Bull. With a record of 28 wins and 11 losses."

"Both contestants have one minute to prepare and summon their spirits."

Yang Potian summoned his Soul Breaker Spear, his spirit rings glowing in the formation of two yellow and one purple.

Across from him stood his opponent, towering nearly two meters tall, with an impressive build and powerful muscles, clearly a force to be reckoned with.

The Mighty King quickly entered his spirit-possessed state, a giant Mighty Bull shadow enveloping him as his spirit rings, also two yellow and one purple, appeared.

As the minute drew to a close, the announcer's voice rang out. "Both contestants are ready. Begin!"

At the start, Yang Potian lunged forward, gripping his spear with both hands, aiming for a swift attack.

The Mighty King had the same idea, charging toward Yang Potian with his fists raised.

Just before they collided, Yang Potian thrust his spear forward, channeling his full strength into the spear tip with a technique he called "Straight to the Heart."

Seeing the danger, the Mighty King clenched his fists, his second yellow spirit ring flashing as he activated his second spirit ability, "Bull Charge."

The spear and fists clashed. Yang Potian held steady, while the Mighty King's fist ended up with a serious puncture wound. Just one exchange, and the Mighty King was injured.

The Mighty King, known for his immense strength, was stunned. He rarely encountered opponents in the same rank who could match, let alone exceed, his strength. But here was a contestant who had injured him without even using a spirit ability.

Yang Potian didn't waste any time. While his opponent was distracted, he gathered energy at the tip of his spear and thrust forward, sending a silver streak of light shooting toward the Mighty King. Before his opponent could react, the strike pierced his left shoulder, causing blood to gush.

Without hesitation, Yang Potian launched his next attack—a sweeping blow. The Mighty King, refusing to admit defeat, activated his third spirit ability, "Bull Power," a skill that boosted his strength.

But with injuries to his fists and shoulder, his power was significantly reduced. When his fists met Yang Potian's spear, he felt an overwhelming force greater than anything he'd anticipated. The impact sent him flying, knocking him out cold.

And just like that, Yang Potian's first match in the Spirit Arena was over. Without using a single spirit ability, he had defeated a Level 38 Soul Elder, sending him out of the ring.

The crowd went silent, then erupted in wild cheers. It was rare to see a match in the high-level Soul Elder category end so quickly, especially with such a clean, decisive victory.
