Chapter 200: Chapter 200: The Evolved Chaos Sword
"Mu Chen! Are you ever going to stop?" Bibi Dong roared, her patience finally snapping. She was Bibi Dong, not some tool to be used at someone's whim.
Her teacher, Qian Xunji, had treated her as a tool for strengthening Spirit Hall and enhancing the lineage's talent, even going so far as to separate her from her first love, Yu Xiaogang, before taking her body against her will. And now, Mu Chen was treating her the same way, as a mere tool to boost his own strength in facing Qian Daoliu. This hit a nerve that Bibi Dong could not tolerate.
"Ding-dong!"
"Congratulations! Your spirit power has reached the maximum level. Current level: 96 (0/8,704,320)."
"He… leveled up again?"
The spirit energy around Mu Chen swirled into a powerful vortex.
"Just how long has it been? He's gone from Rank 93 to Rank 96 so quickly. How is that even possible?" One of the spirit masters couldn't help but voice his amazement. His gut told him there was some shortcut, some hidden method behind Mu Chen's meteoric rise in power.
"Is he… an evil spirit master?" another muttered, starting to wonder if Mu Chen's swift rise was due to some dark, forbidden arts. It seemed to them that only those who dabbled in unorthodox practices could achieve such rapid gains.
With a stomp, Mu Chen released his spirit rings—nine in total, all flashing with an intense crimson glow.
"Nine spirit rings? And they're all red?"
The audience was left in shock yet again as Mu Chen's spirit rings—all at the hundred-thousand-year level—appeared before them, a feat unheard of in the spirit master world.
Bibi Dong's face paled as she noted that Mu Chen's first five spirit rings, which she remembered as black, had transformed into red hundred-thousand-year spirit rings. Moreover, his seventh ring, previously just a single red, now pulsed with two deep crimson circles, indicating that it had ascended to two hundred thousand years.
"A Titled Douluo with all red spirit rings… Unbelievable!"
One of the spirit masters gasped aloud, unable to contain his awe.
"Divine Trial!"
"Divine Trial!" Both Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong muttered in unison, realization dawning on them.
Human capabilities alone couldn't increase the age of spirit rings. Only a divine blessing could alter the spirit rings' years. It was clear to both of them that Mu Chen's transformation had to be the result of his divine trial.
Beyond just the spirit rings, Mu Chen's Chaos Sword had also evolved as his spirit power ascended to Rank 96. Its engravings were sharper, its length increased from three feet to nearly six, and a majestic aura radiated from it, creating an intense pressure that seeped into the surrounding souls, even without Mu Chen activating it fully.
Thud!
A spirit master with a weapon spirit suddenly found himself kneeling before Mu Chen.
Thud!
One after another, many spirit masters—especially those among Spirit Hall's guardians—began to bow involuntarily to Mu Chen, overcome by the sheer force of his evolved spirit. Even the Rank 96 Titled Douluo, Sword Douluo Chenxin, felt a wave of terror reaching deep into his soul.
"Qian Daoliu, are you certain you still wish to fight me?" Mu Chen asked, his voice calm yet sharp.
Qian Daoliu's gaze met Mu Chen's, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his usually steely countenance.
Initially, with a six-level advantage over Mu Chen, he was confident he could take him on. Now, with only a three-level difference, he was hesitant. As the high priest of the Seraphim God, he could sense the divine aura from Mu Chen's martial spirit. Qian Daoliu found himself weighing his options, realizing the risks if he were to lose. The damage to Spirit Hall's reputation would be severe if he, as the revered adjudicator, were to be defeated.
But to let a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast escape right under his nose—it was hard to stomach.
After a long silence, Qian Daoliu said quietly, "Very well, you may go. Remember, however, that today you are guests in Spirit City due to the competition. The next time we meet, fortune may not favor you so."
With that, Qian Daoliu disappeared, his voice echoing in the distance. The presence of a Rank 96 Mu Chen made it difficult for even him to remain confident in victory.
…
"Ning Sect Master, have you considered taking Ning Rongrong back home with you?" Flender asked as they made their way back.
"Back home? Why?" Ning Fengzhi replied with a slight smile.
"Well, with the tournament over and the championship won, they're all pretty much ready to graduate," Flender explained.
"Graduate? While Rongrong has indeed completed her studies, I believe she's already agreed to join Tang Sect, hasn't she? Isn't she now one of your Tang Sect's elders?" Ning Fengzhi responded, amused.
"Yes, that's true," Flender replied, glancing at Mu Chen and nodding.
"In that case, I don't have much say in her decision. Even if I were to ask her to return, do you think she'd agree?" Ning Fengzhi asked, looking over at his daughter.
Ning Rongrong's cheeks turned pink as her gaze shifted to Mu Chen. She, of course, wouldn't agree to leave.
And it wasn't just Ning Rongrong. Meng Yiran, Zhu Zhuqing, Jiangzhu, and Princess Xue Ke all shared the same sentiment; they didn't want to part from Mu Chen either.
"Mu Chen, what are your plans now?" Ning Fengzhi asked, his voice hinting at deeper concerns.
"Hm? Uncle Ning, you mean about Xiao Wu?" Mu Chen replied.
"Yes. With Xiao Wu's identity as a spirit beast exposed, word will soon spread across the spirit master world. Many will be tempted by the thought of acquiring a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring," Ning Fengzhi said with a nod.
"Uncle Ning, rest assured, I'll keep Xiao Wu close by. Anyone who tries to harm her will have to go through me first," Mu Chen replied, his tone firm.
Ning Fengzhi nodded in approval. Now a Rank 96 Titled Douluo, Mu Chen had already defeated Bibi Dong and forced Qian Daoliu, Spirit Hall's strongest, to back down. There truly was no safer place on the continent for Xiao Wu than by Mu Chen's side.
"Uncle Ning, Sword Douluo, and everyone else, please keep an eye on them for a bit. I'll be right back," Mu Chen said suddenly, his voice resolute.
Without further explanation, Mu Chen vanished.
"Where did he go?" Ning Rongrong asked, puzzled.
"Where else? He's probably gone to make amends with someone after causing such a scene," Liu Erlong muttered, a touch of irritation in her voice.
Ning Fengzhi chuckled, glancing subtly in the direction of the Pope's Palace.
