Beast stepped forward with a grin, his voice echoing through the training room. "Alright, everyone. You'll be randomly placed into groups to begin your first simulation. Piotr will be the exception—he's been training longer than the rest of you due to some special circumstances, so he'll be fighting solo for now."
The students murmured among themselves, curious about the team assignments. Aiden felt a quiet indifference. While the others were excited or nervous, he was more interested in how these simulations would unfold—if they could challenge him in any meaningful way.
Beast read off the teams:
"Bobby with Kitty. John with Sam. Noriko with Kevin. Amara with Jubilation. And finally, Aiden with Rogue."
Aiden's ears perked up at his partner's name. Rogue. He had noticed her before in the classroom—distant, guarded. He turned his head slightly to catch her reaction, but she remained as stoic as ever, giving nothing away.
Beast clapped his hands, drawing their attention back to the front. "But before you all start, let's have Piotr give us a demonstration."
Piotr, a towering figure of muscle and steel, stepped forward as the simulation room hummed to life. The projection cast three robot-like enemies in front of him—mechanized training dummies designed to simulate combat scenarios.
Without a word, Piotr transformed, his skin turning into gleaming metal. He charged forward with immense power, making short work of the robots. A single punch crumpled one like paper. The second he sent flying across the room with a kick, and the third met a similar fate, reduced to a heap of sparking debris.
Aiden watched in silence, his eyes narrowing slightly as he analyzed Piotr's every move. Colossus, he thought to himself, recalling the name Piotr would come to be known by in the future. There was no doubting Piotr's sheer power, but Aiden noted the flaws. He was slow, methodical, relying too much on brute strength. Aiden's mind raced with counter-strategies, considering ways to bypass such power—weaknesses to exploit if necessary.
When the demo ended, Piotr stepped back, his transformation fading, and Beast motioned for the rest of the students to begin.
Aiden took the opportunity to approach his teammate, Rogue. She stood off to the side, her arms crossed, a look of disinterest on her face. Aiden closed the distance and introduced himself, trying to be polite despite sensing her closed-off demeanor.
"Hey, I'm Aiden," he said, offering a friendly smile. "Looks like we're partners for this."
Rogue gave him little more than a glance, nodding in acknowledgment but remaining silent.
Aiden sighed softly, not surprised by her reaction. He could sense her hesitation, her reluctance to engage. "Look, if you're worried, don't be. I'll protect you and help us pass this easily," he added, trying to offer reassurance.
Rogue's expression hardened slightly, and she shook her head. "I ain't worried about that," she said, her southern drawl quiet but firm.
Aiden understood instantly. She wasn't worried about the simulation; she was worried about her power—her ability to drain the life force of anyone she touched. He refrained from mentioning it, not wanting to make her feel worse, and instead, he simply nodded, letting the conversation end there. His eyes returned to the training area as the first duo stepped up.
Bobby and Kitty were the first to enter the simulation. As the robots appeared, the duo wasted no time. Bobby, using his ice powers, froze one of the enemies solid with ease. Kitty phased through another robot, disrupting its systems before grabbing it from behind and slamming it to the ground. As the third robot targeted Kitty, she let its attack phase through her body harmlessly. Bobby capitalized on the distraction and quickly took out the remaining enemy with an ice blast.
The simulation ended, and Beast stepped forward, nodding in approval. "Well done! If you'd like, you don't have to stop at level one. You can continue to challenge yourselves by advancing to higher levels. The enemies will grow stronger, and they will multiply, but it's up to you."
Bobby and Kitty exchanged glances, excitement sparking between them. "Let's go for it," Bobby said with a grin, and Kitty nodded in agreement.
The simulation resumed, and on each level, the number of enemies doubled, as promised. Bobby and Kitty fought well, their teamwork improving with each round, but by the time they reached level three, the strain was beginning to show. The duo faced twelve enemies now—each more advanced and difficult to defeat than the last.
Bobby's breath was ragged, and his ice attacks were coming slower. Kitty phased in and out of danger, but she, too, was tiring. Despite their best efforts, the exhaustion caught up to them, and they finally stopped after level three, having successfully defeated the twelve enemies but too drained to continue.
Beast smiled as they exited the simulation. "Good work, you two. Level three is a solid accomplishment, especially for your first time."
The second team, John and Sam, stepped up to take their turn, but it was clear from the start that this partnership was far from ideal. Everyone could sense the tension between them even before the simulation began. Once the enemies appeared, Sam immediately launched himself at the robots with his rocket-like body attack, showing no hesitation. However, John, acting with a noticeable lack of care, unleashed a burst of fire that not only destroyed a nearby robot but also slightly injured Sam in the process.
Despite their disjointed teamwork, they managed to clear the first level. But the same pattern repeated on level two. Sam charged ahead recklessly, while John focused on incinerating anything in his path, without regard for his partner. Their infighting became so intense that Storm had to intervene, stopping the simulation before things could escalate further. They still qualified, but it was clear they had a long way to go in terms of working together.
Next up was the third team, Noriko and Kevin. Noriko immediately took the spotlight with her electric powers, which propelled the team forward through the levels. Her quick attacks and relentless energy brought them all the way to level five, where they faced a daunting challenge of 48 enemies. Though Kevin wasn't a bad fighter—his mutation of decaying anything he touched was immensely powerful—his fear and cowardice in battle slowed them down. Ultimately, they couldn't handle the overwhelming number of enemies and were defeated on level five.
Amara and Jubilation followed as the fourth team. Jubilation led the charge, her blasts of energy lighting up the simulation room as they fought their way to level four. When they encountered 24 enemies, Amara finally stepped up, revealing her true strength. With a powerful eruption of lava, she decimated the remaining enemies in a single move, showcasing her control over magma. However, the effort left her exhausted, and the pair agreed to stop before attempting level five.
The results stood as follows
Team One (Bobby and Kitty) reached Level 3 and withdrew before facing Level 4.
Team Two (John and Sam) struggled on Level 2 and were defeated on Level 3 due to infighting.
Team Three (Noriko and Kevin) pushed to Level 4 but were defeated on Level 5.
Team Four (Amara and Jubilation) reached Level 4 and withdrew before facing Level 5.
Aiden watched closely, continuing to analyze each team's performance, all while considering how he would defeat each one
Beast called Aiden and Rogue forward, signaling it was their turn. Aiden stepped up confidently, Rogue beside him. As the three robots simulated into existence, Aiden didn't waste any time. The moment Beast announced the start, a powerful arc of wind shot from both of Aiden's hands, slicing through the robots with surgical precision. In just under 2.42 seconds, the entire level was over.
The room fell silent. All eyes were wide with disbelief—no one, let alone a ten-year-old, had ever performed like this before. Rogue, who had been distant earlier, now looked at Aiden with a newfound respect, though she kept her thoughts to herself.
Aiden, unfazed by the attention, turned to Beast and politely asked, "Can we start level two?"
The simulation resumed, and just like in the first level, Aiden made quick work of the enemies. He leaped into the air and, with a well-timed descent, crushed one of the robots beneath his legs. A burst of wind energy erupted from the point of impact, instantly taking out the remaining five robots.
Level three proved no more challenging. Aiden soared through the air, his hands forming a double arc of wind that sliced through the six enemies effortlessly. The murmurs in the room grew louder as people whispered about his strength, wondering if the rumors about him single-handedly defeating Avalanche weren't so exaggerated after all.
When level four began, Aiden faced 24 robots. Though this required slightly more effort, Aiden still dominated the field, weaving through the robots and releasing bursts of wind that sent them crashing to the ground. He unleashed a flurry of wind attacks, sweeping them away in waves until none remained.
Finally, level five. No one had cleared this stage yet, but somehow, the entire room seemed to have faith in Aiden. As 48 robots filled the arena, all eyes remained locked on him, anticipation thick in the air.
Aiden jumped high into the air, summoning a great wind, and with a fierce shout, he called out, "Sky Dragon's Roar!" A hurricane-like blast erupted from his mouth, tearing through the robots. Over 80% of them were destroyed in an instant. He landed swiftly, dodging a robot's attack, delivering a crushing kick to one, and then seamlessly transitioning to punch another's head clean off. Moving fluidly from one enemy to the next, Aiden dismantled the remaining robots with ease.
When the dust settled, the crowd was left speechless. Aiden had completed level five without breaking a sweat. Everyone now knew it....Aiden wasn't just strong; his mastery over his powers, his physical prowess, and most notably, his stamina, were extraordinary. The veteran teachers....Storm, Beast, and Jean....watched closely, their faces betraying their astonishment. What truly caught their attention was not just the raw power Aiden displayed, but his ability to maintain that power attack after attack without tiring.
Aiden turned to Beast, his expression casual but with a hint of curiosity. "Well?" he asked, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Can we start level six now?"
