The days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, until two years slipped by in the blink of an eye. Aidan had spent a significant portion of that time honing his abilities, focusing on mastering his powers. His Iron and Fire affinities had improved, giving him a broader range of techniques at his disposal. His wind abilities had also evolved dramatically; he could now inhale air to replenish his mana, although he knew this method wasn't as efficient as using his other affinities, especially Iron and Fire.
Initially, his time at Xavier's School hadn't been his favorite. He found himself immersed in lessons about various mutant abilities, but as time passed, what had once felt mundane turned into a passion. He relished the challenge of learning about different powers and deducing their optimal weaknesses, turning the classroom into a battleground of knowledge.
On this particular day, Aidan was deep into his studies when the bell rang, signaling the end of class. But instead of the usual chaos of students eager to leave, Storm's commanding voice halted them.
"Everyone, please remain seated. I have some important news to share," she announced, her tone firm yet reassuring.
Aidan's heart raced with anticipation. As she began to speak, he could feel the weight of her words.
"Aidan Blake, Piotr Nikolayevich Rasputin, Kitty Pryde, Jubilation Lee, Sam Guthrie, John Allerdyce, Bobby Drake, Amara Aquilla, Noriko Ashida, Kevin Ford, and finally, Rogue. You are all to report to the training facility tomorrow at 8 AM. You have been selected to start your practical lessons. Out of everyone here, you are the ones with the best control over your powers or the ones that most need to control them. I expect to see you all there bright and early."
The room buzzed with excitement and curiosity as Storm finished speaking. Aidan exchanged glances with his friends, a mix of thrill and nervous energy swirling among them. Practical lessons meant real training—an opportunity to push their abilities even further.
"Did you hear that? Practical lessons!" Bobby exclaimed, grinning widely.
"Finally!" Jubilation added, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "This is going to be epic!"
Kitty nodded, her usual confidence shining through. "We've all worked hard for this. It's about time we get to put our skills to the test!"
Aiden shrugged off the excitement of the day's news as he followed the rest of his classmates out of the classroom. He made his way to his mom's office, where he typically waited for her to finish her work and take him home. However, today felt different. As they walked home, Aiden noticed something was off with his mom, Lucy.
"Mom, are you okay?" he asked, concern etching his features.
Lucy sighed deeply, pausing for a moment as if gathering her thoughts. "Aiden, I know I won't be able to hold you back forever. My mutant powers... well, they're not much more than hardening my skin to look a bit draconic. But you, my dear child, you are amazing. You were born with so many powers and abilities, and I feel like one day, you will soar high in the skies."
Her voice trembled slightly, and Aiden's heart sank. "But as a mother, I fear for you, my son. Sometimes I think about locking you up, forbidding you from using your powers altogether, just to keep you safe. I don't want to endanger you like what happened two years ago." She glanced at him, her eyes full of love and worry. "But I don't want to do something that would make you feel less. I don't want my son to grow up hating me. So please, tell me, Aiden—do you think you are ready for this?"
Hearing his mom's worries and fears, Aiden understood her perspective. No parent wants their child training for a future fraught with battles, where danger and death lurk at every turn. But he wasn't just any kid; he was different. He looked straight into her eyes, determination coursing through him.
"Mother, it may seem to you like I'm being arrogant or overly confident, but I know for a fact that I am destined for greatness. It's not something I can prove or show you—it's a hunch, a feeling deep inside me. One day, I will be great. At first, I was intimidated by this feeling, but now, I yearn for it. The day I help people, save the world from danger, and defeat villains… I can't hold myself back."
He paused, allowing his words to sink in. "I know you're worried about me. As a mother, that's how you are. But I promise you here and now, I will never give up. I will reach that goal, and one day, you won't just be proud of me because I'm your son. No, you will be proud of me because I will be the man that the world relies on—including you and Dad."
Lucy's expression softened, a mix of pride and relief washing over her. She wrapped her arms around him tightly, holding him close. "I just want you to be safe, Aiden. I trust you, but the world can be so cruel. Promise me you'll be careful."
"I promise, Mom," he replied
Lucy nodded, a look of determination in her eyes. "I will honor your wishes, Aiden. I'll remember your promise and hold you to it. But know this: I will never stand in your way. I will support you for the better, whatever path you choose."
Aiden felt a warm surge of gratitude. "Thank you, Mom, for being so supportive. It means a lot to me. I promise I'll do my best to make you proud."
Lucy smiled softly, brushing a hand through his hair. "You already make me proud, my dear. Just remember that no matter what happens, I'll always be here for you."
....
As the clock struck 8 a.m., Aiden and his fellow students stood in the expansive X-Man Training Room, the air thick with a mix of anticipation and tension. The room was filled with advanced technology and training equipment, all bathed in soft, artificial lighting. Aiden's stomach twisted slightly; he had mixed feelings about the day ahead. He couldn't shake the feeling that the training might not yield much for him—he had grown so much over the past two years, and part of him wondered if this would simply be more of the same.
At the front of the room stood Storm, Beast, Jean Grey, and Xavier. As the latter rolled forward in his wheelchair, his presence commanded attention, and the room fell silent.
"Welcome, young mutants," Xavier began, his voice resonating with authority and warmth, drawing each student's focus. "Today, you embark on a journey that will define not only who you are but also the impact you will have on the world. You stand on the brink of becoming X-Men, guardians of those who cannot protect themselves, and champions for the future of mutants everywhere. Your training here is not merely an exercise in developing your powers; it is an initiation into a legacy of hope and responsibility."
He paused, letting his words sink in, his gaze steady and serious. "As mutants, you possess gifts that set you apart from the rest of humanity. But with those gifts come challenges—challenges that require immense courage and resilience. The world outside these walls is not always welcoming. It is a place that fears what it does not understand. It is up to you to change that narrative. You must strive to be not just powerful but also wise, not just fierce but also compassionate. Every action you take reflects not only on yourselves but on all mutants."
Xavier's voice grew even more impassioned. "Remember, there will be times when you are tested—when your abilities and your morals are pushed to the limits. You must always choose to uphold the values we stand for, even in the face of adversity. You are capable of great things, but it is your choices that will define you. Each of you has the potential to alter the course of history, to stand as a beacon of hope in a world that desperately needs it."
Aiden listened intently, but his heart raced with suspicion. He watched Xavier closely, analyzing his expressions and body language. The way he spoke of choice and consequence felt almost too perfect, too rehearsed. 'What did he really want from them?'
With Xavier's speech concluded, Beast stepped forward, his enthusiasm palpable. "Now that you've been inspired, it's time to put those ideals into practice! Jean, Storm, and I will be rotating as your instructors, and you'll have the opportunity to learn from each of us."
He gestured to the massive simulation machine behind him, a technological marvel designed for training and combat scenarios. "But before we can get to the real training, you need to prove that you're ready for what's to come. We're starting at level one."
Aiden's suspicion lingered in the back of his mind as he observed the machine hum to life, its lights flickering as the screen displayed the first training scenario. Beast continued, "You'll each face the simulation alone or in pairs. This will help us gauge your individual strengths and weaknesses. You'll need to defeat the simulated enemy to move forward. Work together, leverage your powers, and remember everything you've learned so far. Completing this challenge is essential before we officially kick off your training."
As his classmates exchanged excited glances, Aiden remained quiet, contemplating the upcoming simulation. While he was excited at the prospect of practice dummies, he was curious how far could he go with his current power.
