Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Blessed by Beauty

Two days later, Du Sheng arrived at Hengdian's Xingye Court.

The production team had rented sections of the venue to conduct two weeks of intensive training for the cast.

Walking in, Du Sheng spotted a few familiar actors milling about. As he stepped into the lounge, a lively chatter filled the air.

Inside, the room was divided into several small groups, each engaged in animated conversations. Among them, Liu Tao was deep in conversation with a slender young woman, the two of them laughing heartily. Two young men sitting nearby occasionally chimed in, adding to the cheerful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Liu Yifei sat in a quiet corner, headphones on, engrossed in the script in her hands, completely detached from the surrounding noise.

"Ah!"

Liu Tao's eyes lit up as she noticed Du Sheng enter. She clapped her hands in surprise and delight.

"You made it through the audition? What a coincidence!"

Du Sheng nodded with a polite smile.

"Yes, thanks to the directors and producers' generosity."

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Liu Yifei glance his way. It seemed like she wanted to stand up and greet him but hesitated when she saw Liu Tao enthusiastically pulling him over to introduce him to the group. Instead, she quietly resumed her seat.

Liu Tao didn't notice these subtle exchanges. In high spirits, she introduced Du Sheng to the girl beside her.

"This is Wang Yi—she's playing A Bi. Technically, she's also one of your maids!"

Liu Tao herself had been cast as A Zhu, a cherished member of the Murong household, whose status was akin to an adopted daughter despite her title as a servant. Her warmth and enthusiasm reflected her character.

Wang Yi, a tall and elegant woman with a crisp voice, extended a hand shyly.

"Nice to meet you."

She added, "I heard you're quite talented in acting and martial arts. Please take care of me during filming!"

In the drama, Wang Yi's character, A Bi, harbored unrequited feelings for Murong Fu and ultimately stayed by his side through his descent into madness. Naturally, it was essential for them to build rapport.

"Of course!" Du Sheng smiled and shook her hand.

Liu Tao chimed in playfully, "Don't forget about me, young master!"

She was dressed in a red outfit, exuding a lively energy. It seemed she had already begun channeling A Zhu's spirited and mischievous personality.

After introducing Wang Yi, Liu Tao pointed to a tall, thin man sitting nearby.

"That's Ma Yuke. He's playing You Tanzhi. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor—he's from a family of theater performers and has acted in several productions!"

Du Sheng instantly recognized him as the actor who would later portray the infamous villain Duan Kun from Tsim Sha Tsui. He greeted him with a smile.

"Hello, I'm Du Sheng. Looking forward to working with you."

Ma Yuke nodded and gestured for him to take a seat. The actor playing Zhu Danchen, another character in the drama, also offered a polite acknowledgment.

Despite any envy or competitiveness they might feel, they didn't show it. Du Sheng's endorsement by four directors, combined with his rumored backing from investors, commanded respect—even from seasoned actors.

"Producer Zhang won't be here today," Wang Yi said, handing Du Sheng a bottle of juice from the table.

"Director Qu and Director Zhao are in charge for now. There's been some delay with the martial arts team, so we'll have to wait a bit."

"Thanks." Du Sheng accepted the juice and made some light conversation.

Noticing Liu Yifei sitting alone in the corner with her script, he excused himself from the group and walked over.

"Hello again, Brother Sheng."

Liu Yifei looked up, her shyness evident as she greeted him softly.

"Hey, we're on set now—you should call me 'cousin,'" Du Sheng teased with a grin. He glanced at her MP3 player.

"What are you listening to?"

"'Years Like Flowing Water,'" Liu Yifei replied with a small smile.

"It's by one of my favorite singers. I always listen to her new releases…"

Du Sheng listened for a moment and recognized the song.

"Ah, the diva's work. I performed one of her songs, Forgetful Love, at the bar just the other day."

Liu Yifei looked surprised.

"You can sing?"

Du Sheng chuckled but didn't mention it was part of his livelihood.

"You didn't know your cousin is multitalented? Just ask A Bi—I even taught her music!"

Liu Yifei's reserved demeanor softened as she let out a light laugh.

"My cousin is supposed to be aloof and proud—he'd never boast like this!"

Du Sheng laughed heartily, the humor helping to ease the atmosphere.

"Well, you know what they say: good wine needs advertising. Before your Brother Duan shows up, I have to take the spotlight while I can!"

Liu Yifei giggled, her eyes curving into crescent moons.

"You're already getting into character!"

"Of course! If I don't start now, once the big-name stars arrive, we'll all be relegated to the background."

Liu Tao, overhearing their conversation, chimed in teasingly,

"Murong Fu, aren't you supposed to be ruthless and indifferent? This doesn't seem very villain-like!"

Feigning shock, Du Sheng replied,

"And you, the mistress of Listening Fragrance Pavilion, aren't you technically my accomplice?"

The group burst into laughter at the banter.

As the camaraderie grew, Liu Tao suddenly turned mischievous.

"By the way, Murong Fu, you've been spotted on the trending pages. Seems like you've been cozying up with a certain big star. You're living the dream, aren't you?"

Her playful comment referred to the recent gossip involving Du Sheng and Fan Bingbing. Given Fan's high profile, the news had naturally drawn attention.

All eyes, including Liu Yifei's, turned to Du Sheng, curious about his response.

Unfazed, Du Sheng smiled calmly.

"I wish it were true, but the rumors ar

e just too far-fetched. Now, who's going to transform into a big star and make my dreams come true?"
