Chapter 42: Chapter 42: "Girl, You Can't Be Like This!"

Du Sheng nodded in greeting to Liu Xiaoli, then turned to Liu Yifei with a smile. "I thought I'd have to wait half an hour. Didn't expect you to be so early."

Since he didn't have much filming today and had wrapped up his action directing duties, he decided to take on the task of picking them up.

"Haha, no traffic today!" Liu Yifei replied cheerfully as she approached the car. "But we just arrived too—our luggage isn't even loaded yet."

"No worries, just bring what you need for now," Du Sheng said as he stepped out to help load the luggage into the car.

Watching her daughter energetically chatting and helping Du Sheng with the bags, Liu Xiaoli felt conflicted.

Though they'd only been apart for half a month, Liu Yifei was exceptionally enthusiastic, calling out "Cousin" with great warmth and affection.

Once in the car, Liu Yifei quickly claimed the front passenger seat, happily sharing stories about her school life.

Du Sheng drove attentively, listening to her chatter with a fond smile and occasional nods of agreement.

Seeing her daughter so animated, Liu Xiaoli couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. "Xixi, your first scene this afternoon is a major one. Shouldn't you be reviewing the script and getting into character?"

"Mom, it's a scene with Cousin! He's here, so I'm not worried!" Liu Yifei replied nonchalantly before continuing her lighthearted storytelling with Du Sheng.

This response froze Liu Xiaoli's smile in place.

Fortunately, Du Sheng was reliable. Having already prepared his lines and emotions for the scene, he took the opportunity to rehearse with Liu Yifei in the car.

As the two exchanged lines fluidly, occasionally adding dynamic expressions, Liu Xiaoli began to question whether her concerns were misplaced.

She had to admit that while Du Sheng might lack some experience, he was otherwise an excellent influence and was very caring toward her daughter.

Reflecting on the past few years, during which Liu Yifei had been immersed in a strict schedule of education and activities, with little opportunity to form friendships or experience family bonds, Liu Xiaoli felt a pang of guilt.

Perhaps Xixi's joy simply stemmed from finding a rare confidant.

Deciding to set aside her worries for now, Liu Xiaoli convinced herself that the remaining twenty-some days of filming could serve as a small "vacation" for her daughter.

By 2 p.m., the set was fully prepared.

Ling Zhiying, Du Sheng, Liu Yifei, and the actor playing Jiumozhi were already on-site, dressed in their costumes and ready for their respective roles.

The set was surrounded by curious onlookers, eager to watch the dramatic and pivotal scene unfold.

The storyline revolved around Wang Yuyan being kidnapped by Jiumozhi. A gravely injured Murong Fu and a determined Duan Yu both arrive to rescue her. In the end, Duan Yu uses his Six Meridian Swords to save her, earning her gratitude and favor. Meanwhile, Murong Fu silently watches, his heartbreak leading him further down the path of darkness.

Ling Zhiying was particularly focused on this scene.

Despite having starred in Handsome Siblings before, he wasn't formally trained in acting. Comparisons to veterans like Hu Jun or even action-background actors like Du Sheng made him feel inadequate.

This scene was especially challenging as it required a range of emotions: shock and concern upon learning of Wang Yuyan's kidnapping, anger during the fight, elation at being accepted by his "fairy sister," and finally, his foolishly joyful demeanor.

For Ling Zhiying, this wasn't just a challenge but also a source of significant pressure.

What most people didn't know was that this scene was equally taxing for Du Sheng.

In this revised version, Murong Fu still chooses ambition over love, but not before making an earnest effort to save Wang Yuyan despite his injuries.

Murong Fu's internal struggle in letting go of love, mixed with jealousy, relief, and sorrow as he sees Wang Yuyan find solace elsewhere, demanded nuanced acting. By the end of the scene, his transformation into a cold, ruthless figure begins.

This pivotal scene marked a turning point for all the main characters. With extensive wire work involved, it was both physically demanding and crucial to the story. Any mistakes could lead to retakes or, worse, audience criticism.

Directors Zhou Yaowen and Yu Min, along with action supervisors Zhao Jian and Yuan Bin, were all present to oversee the shoot personally.

"Cousin!"

Liu Yifei, unconcerned by the gravity of the moment, approached Du Sheng after getting her makeup done. Circling him cheerfully, she teased, "Tattered clothes, blood everywhere, and looking deathly pale—how are you still this handsome?"

Ling Zhiying, who had been chatting with Du Sheng, felt a pang of frustration.

Girl, are you here to crush someone's confidence?

Dressed in his ornate brocade outfit, Ling Zhiying figured he should stand out among the crowd. Yet somehow, Liu Yifei's focus was solely on Murong Fu. Did she not notice her "Duan Yu brother" standing right here?

Du Sheng, who had been preparing emotionally for the scene, glanced at his "cousin" and smirked. "That light makeup suits you well—perfect for the melancholy of the upcoming scene."

"Yao Jie gave me three options, and I picked this one. Doesn't it look great?" Liu Yifei beamed before finally acknowledging Ling Zhiying with a casual "Brother Ying." Then, grabbing her script, she dragged Du Sheng aside to rehearse.

Ling Zhiying sighed and stepped away, wondering if he was truly getting old.

After a brief preparation period, the scene officially began filming.

"Action!"

The clapperboard snapped.

The wind howled, and dark clouds loomed (courtesy of fans and creative lighting).

Du Sheng, clad in tattered robes, staggered onto the scene. Blood oozed from the wound on his chest, yet his eyes blazed like a volcano about to erupt, cutting through the darkness and locking onto the distant valley where firelight flickered.

There, Jiumozhi grinned lasciviously, rubbing his hands as he approached Wang Yuyan, who was bound and pale, her eyes brimming with terror.

Du Sheng's gaze grew cold as he quickly scanned his surroundings.

Despite the unrelenting pain and blood loss, he took deliberate, laborious steps forward.

Watching from the monitors, Director Zhou Yaowen's eyes lit up.

Du Sheng didn't utter a single word, yet his changing expressions and movements conveyed deep concern and fury.

His portrayal exuded layers of emotion: worry mixed with the helpless rage of someone repeatedly thwarted by fate.

His heavy steps seemed to defy destiny itself—a vivid and heartfelt performance.

Even Zhang Zhizong, who had arrived on set recently, couldn't help but be impressed.

No wonder Yu Min and Zhao Jian spoke so highly of him—this kid had real talent!

The scene progressed, and just as Du Sheng prepared to attack, another figure descended from above.

Clang!

The Six Meridian Swords streaked through the air, glowing brilliantly as they targeted Jiumozhi.

"Yuyan, don't be afraid! I'm here to save you!" Ling Zhiying shouted.

Zhang Zhizong raised an eyebrow.

Everything is relative.

Ling Zhiying wobbled on the wires, struggling to maintain his balance and exuding little presence.

Though his tone was urgent, his facial expressions lacked conviction, f

alling short of the scene's emotional weight.

Zhang Zhizong said nothing, choosing not to intervene but clearly unimpressed
