Chapter 45: Chapter 45: A Purple Skill?
On set.
Whether it was due to Ling Zhiying's poor condition or Liu Yifei's distraction, this scene was NG'd several times.
When it was finally completed and Liu Yifei learned her cousin had already left, her mood sank, and she remained unusually quiet all the way back.
"Xixi, what do you want for dinner?" Liu Xiaoli, who had initially planned to scold her daughter, noticed that her usually lively girl had returned to her shy, reserved state, and held back her words.
"Mom, I'm not hungry. Just a bottle of AD calcium milk will do."
Sitting by the window, Liu Yifei rested her chin on her hand, looking out at the night scene absentmindedly. She couldn't help but wonder if her cousin had already boarded his flight.
"You're still growing. You can't just drink milk all day without eating vegetables or meat," Liu Xiaoli said with a frown.
"I'm too tired to eat," Liu Yifei replied without much energy.
Liu Xiaoli frowned even deeper. She had an inkling of why her daughter seemed so out of sorts. What was it about that guy that had such an effect on Xixi?
Liu Yifei fiddled with the jade flute her cousin had given her as a parting gift, holding it as if it were a treasure. Her lips curved into a small smile as she caressed it.
"Xixi, let me keep it safe for you," Liu Xiaoli offered.
"No, I'll keep it myself!" Liu Yifei responded immediately and firmly.
Not surprisingly, Liu Xiaoli ended up scolding her daughter back at the hotel.
Although Liu Yifei initially felt a little guilty, her mother's lecture triggered her rebellious instincts. She began to believe she had done nothing wrong.
After all, it was just a hug, born from being immersed in her role and overwhelmed by emotions—what was so inappropriate about that?
Moreover, hugging was a normal social gesture, not something scandalous. Why was she being singled out? Liu Yifei's thoughts bubbled under the surface, but she chose to remain silent.
Liu Xiaoli, however, keenly sensed her daughter's resistance, which made her both frustrated and relieved. Xixi seemed to be growing into her independence.
Later that evening, as Liu Yifei finished her shower and prepared to rest, Liu Xiaoli decided to change the subject. "Lidawei called earlier to say The Golden Powder Family has been confirmed for Lianshi TV's prime-time New Year slot."
"Oh, I see," Liu Yifei replied casually, her attention still on her phone.
Liu Xiaoli's expression darkened. "Xixi, are you even listening to me?"
"I heard you, Mom," Liu Yifei replied, still scrolling through her phone. "I'm just a supporting role in that drama. What's the big deal? Dramas are made to be aired anyway."
Her mother was speechless for a moment, before raising her voice slightly. "That's Lianshi's prime-time New Year drama! The exposure and prestige will be enormous. You're about to become a rising star. Doesn't that excite you?"
"What's there to be excited about?" Liu Yifei said lazily. "Getting popular just means more criticism, ridicule, and gossip."
Liu Xiaoli was both exasperated and heartbroken. "Do you know how much effort I've put into securing resources and connections for your career?"
"I know, Mom. I'll work on improving my acting," Liu Yifei finally responded, sensing her mother's concern.
"… Fine. Just don't let anything distract you, especially in the next few weeks. Focus on your work," Liu Xiaoli said, letting the matter drop.
Liu Yifei curled up in bed, still aimlessly swiping through her phone. She wasn't really looking for anything—she just couldn't settle her mind.
Out of nowhere, her phone buzzed, lighting up the screen.
Seeing her cousin's name, Liu Yifei's eyes lit up as she eagerly opened the message.
"Go to bed early. Don't stay up late playing with your phone—it's bad for your eyes. By the way, Zhao Jian mentioned a project next year. If there's a chance, I'll let you know."
"Got it, Cousin! (#^.^#)" she replied, a bright smile spreading across her face as she finally set her phone aside and drifted off to sleep peacefully.
Meanwhile, Du Sheng had just returned to his hotel and finished packing. As he waited for his car, a notification chimed in his mind.
[Notification]
The filming of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils is complete. Would you like to proceed with reward settlement?
Note: The closer your portrayal aligns with the character, the higher your percentage of screen time, and the more complete your performance, the better the rewards and skill levels provided.
Finally! Du Sheng took a deep breath, feeling a surge of excitement and anticipation.
[Confirm Settlement!]
[Calculation in Progress…]
Character Alignment: 69%
Screen Time: 9%
Completion Rate: 74%
Reward Pool Updated…
"What?! Only 69% alignment?" Du Sheng was startled. He had expected a much higher score, given his dedication and nearly Lv.3 acting skills.
Still, he reassured himself. This was only his first major role—there was plenty of room for improvement.
Satisfied, he refocused as the system displayed the reward pool.
[Rating Achieved: Good]
Overall Evaluation: F+
Annual Draw Attempts: 1/11
First three attempts will have bonus multipliers (final attempt doubled). Proceed with draw?
"Ah, so that's why the earlier rewards seemed so generous," Du Sheng muttered, realizing the earlier bonus was due to the multiplier for newcomers.
Nineteen cards, radiating purple, blue, green, and white, appeared in a wheel-like formation before him.
[Wheel of Rewards]
Bonus Multiplier Active: Good → Excellent. Chance for Purple-tier Rewards!
Du Sheng's heart raced as he spotted the purple cards.
Purple-tier rewards? Could it be…
He thought of Douzhuan Xingyi and Canhe Finger, the Murong family's signature techniques. Both were renowned as legendary
martial arts, more than deserving of their high-tier status.
"Here we go…" he murmured, ready to spin.
