Exiled Young Girl’s Territory Development Record: The Result of the Villainous Young Lady Who Was Exiled Before the Scenario Began and Did Whatever She Wanted for the People.

Chapter 9: The Exiled Young Girl Receives Urgent News

One month later, the clearing of the land for the fields was finally complete. Now, we plan to build a barrier to keep away monsters, so there was nothing left for me to do.
I had instructed the two wild boar skeletons to follow Will’s commands for transporting materials, so they should be quite useful.
Skeletons are amazing, aren’t they? They can’t do anything complicated, but they understand and follow the instructions we give them.
For instance, if I tell them to transport logs to the village and then come back, they do just that and return.
And they don’t get tired.
A living beast couldn’t manage that.
Though, it’s a bit disappointing that they can’t handle detailed or complex tasks. In “Magic Academy,” Olivia, the villainess, had skeletons that attacked with weapons and set traps, but mine can’t do such things.
I guess it’s because the skeletons in “Magic Academy” were made from human remains?
After all, the wild boar skeletons move just like wild boars, and the forest deer skeletons do the same.
So, I think to make intelligent skeletons, you need to use human bones… but that’s something I definitely don’t want to do. I’m sure the villagers would hate it too.
Well, thinking about that won’t help me now. I should focus on doing some office work, which I haven’t done in a while.
With that in mind, I went to the study.
“Marie.”
“Has the land clearing been completed?”
“Yes, the cutting is done. With that much space, we should be able to achieve self-sufficiency by next year.”
“That’s good to hear. But you really don’t need to do everything yourself…”
“It’s actually faster if I do it myself. Plus, when I was at the mansion, I couldn’t go outside during the day, right? And even at night, I was confined to that small garden. So, being able to go outside during the day, feel the sunlight, and move around is really nice.”
In total, I had spent twenty-six years, including eighteen years of my previous life, stuck in a hospital bed. Even after reincarnating, despite having a healthy body, I was mostly under house arrest.
“…Understood. But please don’t overdo it. It’s not proper for a noble lady to be working alongside peasants and prisoners.”
“Yes, I know.”
Nobles seem to have a strange pride in not working, as if their status is proven by their lack of labor.
Farming is something only the poor do, while nobles are supposed to govern their lands and live gracefully. And if monsters or enemies attack, they use their magical powers to fight on the front lines.
For women, it’s also about having soft hands that show no signs of labor and skin that hasn’t been tanned, implying they don’t work outside.
But in this village, we can’t afford to be like that.
“Besides, I’m the lord here. I need to make sure the villagers can live properly.”
“Even so, you’re a young lady, and you’re only eight years old. I understand that you possess intelligence beyond your age, but as a young lady of the Ainsley family—”
“Stop! There’s no point in saying that. I was born with black eyes and hair.”
“But! It’s not your fault that you were born this way!”
“True. But you know, I’m actually quite satisfied with life here. I may not have sweet treats or fragrant tea, but I get to eat delicious fruits and fresh meat.”
“…Yes.”
“I appreciate that you’re worried about me, Marie. Thank you.”
“My Lady…”
“By the way, can you tell me what’s happened over the past month?”
“Yes. First, the list of villagers has been completed. As instructed, it’s organized by household and family.”
“Good.”
“Also, I looked into the expenditures during the period when Will was unofficially acting as village head, but there were no records. It appears he spent all the village’s savings…”
“So, we’re broke?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm, so the only money left is the severance pay I provided?”
“Yes. Also, I have a small amount…”
“That’s not nearly enough.”
“Yes.”
“So, does that mean we can’t buy food from outside?”
“That seems to be the case.”
“Ugh, then we need to hurry up with the field work and plant fast-growing crops that can be harvested before winter.”
“That might be necessary.”
“Considering the work needed, it’s impossible to do everything at once. The skeletons can handle the plowing, but for planting and weeding… I need to consult with Bob about that.”
As I was discussing this, Will burst in.
“My Lady! It’s an emergency!”
“Huh? What’s the matter? Didn’t you go to the fields?”
“It’s not about that! There’s a goblin! A goblin has appeared!”
“What!? A goblin? How many?”
“One. It didn’t attack since we outnumbered it…”
“Just one?”
“Miss, this might be serious. I remember the knights saying that if you see one goblin, there are usually about thirty.”
“What? So, goblins are like cockroaches?”
“Exactly! Goblins always travel in groups! So, seeing just one usually means there are many more nearby!”
“Will, does that mean the lone goblin is likely a scout?”
“Pretty much. Depending on the size of the group, an attack might be imminent.”
“I see. What should we do?”
We can’t afford to be attacked by goblins again this year after what happened last year.
“Will, can the village walls keep goblins out?”
“A wooden wall will only buy us time. They can break through with axes or clubs.”
“So, waiting for them to attack means the village will suffer damage again?”
“Yes, that’s right… Wait, Princess, are you thinking—”
“Yeah. I think we should attack first.”
