Chapter 10: The Exiled Young Girl Battles Goblins
“No, this is unacceptable! You can’t fight goblins!”
“Huh? I’m not fighting them myself. The actual battle will be handled by Will and the others. My job is just to immobilize them.”
“It’s the same thing!”
“Yeah! Goblins have some intelligence. It’s dangerous!”
“So, what should we do?”
“We’ll set up an ambush.”
“But the current wall can’t hold them off, right?”
“That’s true…”
“Then we shouldn’t rely on the wall, should we?”
“Well…”
“In that case, isn’t it better if we attack them first?”
“…”
“Then it’s settled. We need to find their nest first…”
Despite Marie and Will’s objections, we eventually decided that attacking was the best option. So, I went with Will and the village’s self-defense group to the location where the goblin was sighted.
“Where did you see the goblin?”
“Over there. In that patch of grass… Yikes!?”
Will pointed towards the grass, but beyond it, there were three disgusting, green, bipedal creatures. They were holding makeshift axes made of stones tied to wooden sticks.
“Goblins!”
“Gegyak!? Gagyagya!”
“Gigyigi!”
“Gigi!”
“Gigiiee! Gigiiee!”
What? Not three, but they’re coming out in droves from further inside!
Oh god… they’re so disgusting. What is this overwhelming feeling of revulsion just from looking at them?
“M-My Lady!”
“There are too many!”
“Let’s run away!”
Will and the others were clearly shaken by the sight, backing away in fear.
But running away won’t help, right? With so many of them, they must have brought reinforcements. If we leave them alone, it’s only a matter of time before they come to Scarletford, right?
“Will! Get a grip!”
I shouted at Will. He flinched and looked at me apologetically.
“Gegyakya!”
“Gagya!”
The goblins, now surrounding us, started throwing stones at us.
These bastards!
I immediately began binding the souls of the goblins.
“Gyak!?”
“Gigyagi!?”
“G-Gigigigi…”
The goblins, suddenly unable to move, panicked and tried to struggle free.
Ugh… maintaining this many souls is a bit taxing…
“Will! Hurry up and get rid of the goblins!”
“Y-Yes!”
“Uoooh!”
Finally, Will and the others started to act, taking down one immobilized goblin after another. Within five minutes, all the goblins were defeated.
“Ugh, so gross…”
“Why are goblins so disgusting? What’s the deal with them?”
I agree. The green skin is gross, and the faces that look like they’re grinning are really unsettling.
“Um, My Lady…”
“What?”
“I’m asking just to be sure, but…”
Why does it sound so awkward?
“What is it?”
“Well… are we going to eat them?”
“Eh? Eat what?”
“…The goblins.”
“What? Can you even eat those?”
“Well, supposedly you won’t die from it, but they’re said to be incredibly stinky and awful…”
“Have you guys ever eaten them?”
“Never. Even though we were thieves, we weren’t so desperate as to eat goblins.”
“Then don’t ask. I’m grossed out too.”
“Right, sorry. So, should we bury them?”
“Yeah. Burying them sounds good.”
“Eh? My Lady, do you have something else in mind?”
“Yes. I was thinking the bones might be useful.”
“Eh? Are you going to use them for something?”
“Yeah. They seem more dexterous than wild boars…”
“Ah, I see. So, dissection then? I’m not too keen on it…”
“How about burning them? That might work.”
“Got it. I’ll give it a try.”
Will and the others then started piling up stones.
“What are you doing?”
“We’re building a kiln. It’ll burn them faster this way.”
“Ah, I see.”
They quickly constructed a kiln out of stones and earth, placed dead branches inside, and then ignited it with a flint. The goblin corpses were thrown into the kiln.
The next day, we returned to the kiln where the goblin corpses were incinerated. Inside, the coals were still glowing red, and there were blackened lumps that no longer resembled their original forms.
“My Lady, can we still use these?”
“Yes. Let’s give it a try. Hand me one.”
“Sure.”
Will handed me a blackened lump and placed it in front of me.
Alright, let’s see if this works.
I visualized the completed skeleton and released my magic. As usual, a dark, ominous magical aura enveloped the blackened lump.
Hmm, will it work? …Oh, it seems to be working.
Soon, cracks appeared on the surface of the lump, and only the blackened bones emerged.
“Ah, it worked. Goblin bones can be used to make skeletons too.”
“Wow, so this is what the goblin skeleton looks like.”
“Miss, it doesn’t seem too gross now.”
“Yeah, it’s better.”
The black skeleton is a bit eerie, but it doesn’t provoke that physiological revulsion anymore.
“Alright, you’re G-1’’
‘’ G-1, retrieve the remaining goblin corpses from the kiln.”
Clank clank.
G-1 silently moved to the kiln and began removing the lumps of charcoal one by one.
Hmm? Maybe goblin skeletons are really efficient?
