Fallout: (Nuclear)Winter Is Coming

Chapter 7: Ch.7: The Time Has Come

Over the course of several days I had made many trips to Boston and the surrounding areas to shop for items to fill my vault.

I exchanged precious metals at other banks to avoid suspicion.

Everything from clothes and food to ammunition and robots.

Yes, I purchased two robots. One Mister Handy and a Miss Nanny.

I have not unboxed them yet but I plan to do so after taking the robotics perk as well the hacker perk so I can make sure these robots dont go crazy for whatever reason.

That's a common thing in fallout, crazy robots.

There was a few days left until the bombs dropped and my vault storage room was starting to actually look full.

I put fruits, vegetables, and raw meat into my cryofreezer and I had seeds of every type I could get my hands on stored there as well.

I remembered that the Institute in the future was attempting to clone many of the animals from before the war and they were having trouble since they didnt have clean dna.

I procured as many different animals parts as I could from the local butchers and taxidermists and stored them as well.

Having untainted dna of several species means I could revive them in the future.

I didnt have many things from exotic animals but I got what I could reasonably procure in a short time.

As for ammo, I was also limited in what I could buy. Ammo was expensive and comparable to gold at the moment. I got many boxes of 10mm, .38, and 5.56 but I had to limit myself to several boxes of those caliber rounds to save money for other things.

Today, I didn't have anything planned to buy. Instead I actually planned to steal some things.

It was October 16th, and I remembered there was a place nearby that had something interesting left there around this time. But I wasn't going for that right now.

I put on an outfit that was sitting on a mannequin in the storage area when I entered the vault.

It was a black ops outfit that had night vision goggles and a ski mask.

Night fell and I emerged from my vault hatch. Coming out of the hatch, I closed it and re-covered it with brush to help hide it.

Walking through the quiet woods was a bit spooky and even more so when you know supernatural stuff does exist in some capacity in this world.

What if I ran into a wendigo or something? I have no real combat abilities or experience and the 10mm pistol holstered at my hip probably cant kill much with the little skill I have.

As I creeped through the darkness, I passed through the area north of Santuary Hills, until I reached a road to the east.

From there I walked south avoiding any and all cars driving this late at night.

My destination was the robotics disposal yard.

The robotics disposal yard had parts I wanted for various robots. The place also had a prototype sentry bot and a holotape to command it.

If I got my hands on that holotape and modified the sentry bot later, i would have a powerful minion to protect me.

For now my target was the other robot parts so i can rebuild some at a later date.

In the darkness I approached the chain link fence surrounding the yard.

Compared to what we see in game, this yard still had many usuable parts.

I approached the fence and watched for several minutes. It seems there is in fact security in place here but I could see the security guard in the office and there was no dogs on site.

This was good news for me. I planned to be in and out with as many robot parts I could reasonably put in my inventory.

I pulled out a pair of bolt cutters from my inventory and cut a section of the fence and then crawled through.

Funny enough when I crouched and started tip toeing, an [Hidden] message displayed on my vision.

With each step the brackets moved slightly indicating that I'm making sound but was still undetected.

I picked up primarily protectron parts and mister handy parts as well as eyebots. But I didnt have much interest in the robo-brains so I left those untouched and there wasnt any assaultron parts sadly.

After getting what I could, I retreated and gave one last look back at the deactivated sentry bot.

"I'm coming back for you..." I whispered.

With a successful haul, I went back to my vault and offloaded my loot in the storage area before turning in for the night.

I had most of the things I needed and knew I could get certain things later on so I didnt worry too much if I had forgotten anything.

My vault was safe and comfortable and with all the purchases I made, I could probably survive for a decade by myself before any of it started running out.

My vault produced purified water on it's own from the ground water in the soil so I didnt have to worry about that.

After entering my vault the first time another main quest had popped up but I wasnt concerned about it for now.

[Death From Above: Survive the nuclear blasts and radioactive fallout. Reward: Recipe: Perfected Mysterious Serum, 2000xp, 2000 caps.]

The reward is a recipe for how to make a Perfected version of the Mysterious serum.

The Mysterious Serum is an item that can be gotten in Fallout 4 when the sole survivor does a quest chain for the Cabot family.

The Cabot family had lived for centuries by using the blood of Lorenzo Cabot who found an alien helmet in an expedition.

Lorenzo's son Jack Cabot, kept Lorenzo locked away in an insane asylum and has been researching how to return his father back to normal due to the influence the alien helmet is having on Lorenzo.

However at some point Jack had started using Lorenzo's blood to make the mysterious serum, which seemed to offer the Cabot family eternal youth and longevity. It is also the reason the Cabot's had no problem living through the apocalypse.

The mysterious serum not only gives eternal youth but also gave the family a small healing Factor and natural radiation regeneration.

In the quest the player has to decide to help Jack keep Lorenzo contained, or help Lorenzo escape his confinement.

Helping Lorenzo would result in being able to get a steady supply of mysterious serum and helping Jack, you get a weapon.

I think it's obvious which side I take in that quest every time.

The mysterious serum is a very good life saving chem in the game and now in real life.

I didnt know what ingredients would be required for the recipe at this time, so I can only wait until I get the recipe to decide what to do next.

With most of my preparations complete I spend the next few days familiarizing myself with the ins and outs of my vault.

I had looked into purchasing caps from the Nuka-Cola bottling plant and when I called them, they said I could buy them at a certain factory but that was outside my current means.

The factory was quite far and I refused to go too far from my vault when the bombs will be dropping within a week.

Since that wouldn't work out, I thought about dumpster diving for bottle caps but quickly threw out that idea.

I would just have to rely on quests for now, and make caps the old fashion way in the future.

The days passed and it was finally the morning of October 23rd, 2077. The time has come.
