Chapter 6: Ch.6: Money
I exited the Server and Reactor area and then went into the door I passed earlier. The storage room.
This room was the one I probably spent the most time designing. It's not that its flashy but I had to spend alot of time making rows upon rows of shelves and painstakingly placing items on the shelves to make it look somewhat full of stuff.
My smile couldnt be any wider as I walked in and saw everything I had placed still present even now in reality.
The shelves were lines with mostly junk items but alot of it were high value junk items and scrap.
The storage area is massive and I pushed the build budget in here to its limit.
The best part and the part I am most thankful for right now is probably the section where I placed a shit ton of gold and silver bars.
With those, I could purchase quite alot of supplies since those precious metals hold value even in this economy.
I was happy all my junk and scrap were present since my storage, scrap and ammo inventory boxes were empty.
The other bright side here was the rooms in the back of the storage area. I had cryogenic freezers where I could store meat and vegetables after I buy them but there was also an abundance of non perishable foods stocked up those rooms.
"This will definitely do." With a satisfied smile at the fact everything in my vault was there same as the game, I walked over to the gold and silver and began putting some of the ingots into my inventory.
"Now that I have some funds, I can stock this vault up more and get some essential items to horde before the bombs go off." I said to myself as I proceeded to go back to my quarters in the residential sector.
Before going to bed I opened my menu and leveled up now that I am in a quiet and comfortable place.
I was now level 6 and I had four special points to allocate as well as the perk points I got.
I put 2 points into Intelligence and then 1 point into both Charisma and Luck.
I thought about putting some points into Endurance and Strength but I didnt need any extra of those at this moment.
What I needed was to focus on getting good deals to stock my vault, which is where Charisma comes in. I also put the one point into Luck because Luck is lowkey a very powerful attribute. It affects everything in a small way.
It also determines the amount of damage from critical hits and the possiblilty of finding better loot.
I looked into the mirror after applying the Charisma point and noticed I may have gotten a little more handsome. Maybe?
I was about 6'1" with short black hair and looked a bit like a young version of Colin Farrell. I wasn't bad looking at all to begin with but it seems that 1 point did make some improvement, however minor.
I laid down on my vault tec bed and fell asleep. The bed was very comfortable and soft which was a huge improvement to the jail cot I had been sleeping on.
In the morning I was awoken by my Nuka Cola alarm clock. Waking up to that jingle was strange but I woke up none the less.
🎵What if there was a place with all the zip of Nuka-Cola? Wouldn't that be the cheer-cheer-cheeriest place in all the world! Where the river's made of Quantum, and the mountaintops are fizz. With fun and games and rides for all the moms and pops and kids.🎵
"Ugh, shut up..." The jingle continued until I rose out of bed and smacked the clock's button to silence it.
I'm not gonna lie I felt good. I looked at my status and noticed I had a 'Well Rested' bonus that lasted for 8 hours, which gave me +5% xp gain.
That tracks since that was a common feature in the games. All those days in jail I had not once felt well rested.
I went through the wardrobe that I had which wasn't much. My options comprised of outfits I had on the various displays in the vault.
I had brought them into my personal suite and put them in the drawers and lockers.
I picked out a pinstripe suit and black bowler hat and then stepped in front of the mirror.
I couldnt lie, my drip was on point.
"What would happen if I maxed out charisma?" I thought out loud while looking at the most handsome man in the world currently in the mirror.
"The world would likely experience peace just from my radiance, everyone would be too stunned to continue thier war."
I said to no one but myself with a vain smirk on my face.
When I was done playing around I exited the vault. It was 8:03 am, so I had plenty of time to do what I needed to do.
I made my way back to Concord, which took me about an hour of walking and then I waited at the bus stop.
At around 9:30 a bus going into the Boston area arrived and I used more of my initial funds as fare.
I was down to 405 Prewar dollars, that was enough for about 20 meals at a cheap diner to put in perspective for how the economy is doing.
I needed alot more than that to buy enough supplies for my vault. I had already thought of a basic plan for what I was going to do.
I planned to spend a few years in the vault after the bombs drop training and learning what I can so I'm not a complete waste when I exit the vault.
At some point, I'll use the cryogenic beds to 'travel' to the future. I didnt want to deal with the chaos of the wasteland in the early days and it was likely a far more dangerous time before people returned to the surface and began rebuilding society.
As the bus approached its destination I readied myself and then got off at the Fens. I made my way down the road which was east of Hangman's Alley and arrived at the bank where I had an account, Bridgeway Trust.
This was a bank that got robbed the day the bombs dropped and the player could find out what happened and even open the bank vault and loot it.
Ironically I had an account with them which was good news because I could trade in my silver and gold for cash easily.
I entered the bank and waited for the next available teller. A protectron stood at the entrance observing the people coming and going from the bank, ready to protect and serve at a moments notice.
"Good day, Sir. How may I help you?" The teller asked as I approached.
I pulled out my wallet with i.d. as well as a stack of gold and silver bars from my pcokets to disguise the use of my inventory.
"I have an account, and would like to trade these in for cash. Can you help me with that?"
"Certainly! Just place those in this box and the manager will appraise them shortly and come back with an offer." She said with a sickly sweet tone, her eyes lingering on the gold and silver like a thirsty gold digger.
I noticed she began sizing me up which caused a shiver to run down my spine, but I responded without showing I was on to her schemes.
"Okay. I'll be over here." I said and sat down in the waiting area while she took the box to the back.
After about 30 minutes of waiting, a plump man with hair that was thinning on top, came from the back office.
"Mr... Winter, was it?" He said as he approached with his hand raised for a handshake.
"That's me." I replied. "Frankie Winter."
"Excellent! How about we step into my office and discuss our trade?"
I followed the man to the back and he explained the price they were willing to pay for the gold and silver.
"How about $100 per gram for the gold and $80 for the silver?" I asked, attempting to haggle.
*Ding*
[Speech Check Failed.]
"Sorry. The best I can do is $80 per gram on the gold and $60 per gram on the silver. The market is currently in flux so to make any money on this exchange, we can only offer these prices."
'Damn. Fuck. Shit. I need to raise charisma more!'
I had no choice but to accept his prices and sold all the gold and silver ingots I brought with me. The man smiled happily after successfully ripping me off and I grumbled as I grabbed the suitcase full of cash he handed me and walked out.
I had fifteen thousand dollars now to spend which was enough for now. I left the Fens and made my way north on foot and then found the first stop, Backstreet Apparel, so I could stock up on clothing items.
I purchased many types of outfits, socks, and underwear for both men and women. These clothes would be preserved in the vault and would prevent me and my companions from having to wear rags in the future.
I then made my way over to the local Super Duper Mart and went on a shopping spree for all types of food to stock my vault. I got plenty of dried and canned foods, knowing that it will still be good 200 years later.
Not sure how that works but I wasnt going to miss the opportunity to stock up on Sugar Bombs. I bought every box they had there and I was nearly over encumbered when I left.
The bright side is I still had 10 days to get everything I need before the bombs ended the current society.
