Fangs and Fury : Dual System of the Godslayer

Chapter 6: Chapter Six : A Night of Shadows

Terry lay on his straw mattress, staring at the wooden beams of the dimly lit quarters he shared with Curl. They had returned safely from their harrowing encounter with the goblins, but the exhaustion hadn't lulled him into sleep. Instead, his mind churned with frustration.

Curl was already asleep in the corner, her soft breathing a rhythmic contrast to Terry's restless tossing. His cursed slave system seemed to taunt him at every turn. A level 1 slave in a brutal world like this—it was like being a bird with clipped wings. His stats were pathetic compared to Curl's, who had already reached level 14.

He let out a low growl, careful not to wake Curl. "Agility, four. Strength, six. Speed, five. What am I supposed to do with this?!"

The fact that he'd had to *rent* his flame aura during the goblin fight was the most infuriating part. It wasn't his ability to use freely—it belonged to the cursed system. And now, after surviving the fight, he didn't even know what to do with the points he'd saved.

"Renting powers… paying for survival… this is a joke," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Everyone else in this world seemed to have systems that worked properly, systems designed to help them break their chains or at least survive. But his? It dangled power in front of him like a carrot, only to demand payment for every scrap of strength.

"I need to level up," he said aloud. "I need more power.

A sudden sensation prickled at the back of Terry's neck, silencing his grumbling. He froze, his senses sharpening. It was faint at first—a subtle shift in the air, like a breath of cold wind that shouldn't have been there.

Someone, or something, was nearby.

He glanced at Curl, but she hadn't stirred. Whatever this presence was, it didn't seem to have reached her yet. Quietly, Terry got to his feet, his movements slow and deliberate. His system didn't provide a notification, which was odd. Usually, it was quick to alert him to threats.

Grabbing the rusty knife he kept under his bedding, Terry moved cautiously toward the door. His heart pounded as he pushed it open, stepping into the cold night air. The sky above was a canvas of dark clouds, obscuring the stars.

The sensation grew stronger. Something was out there, watching him.

"System," he whispered, his voice shaking slightly. "Scan the area."

A faint glow appeared in his vision as the system activated. It highlighted a figure lurking in the shadows near the storage shed—a hunched, dark creature with an elongated body and spindly limbs.

**Entity Identified: Drocaly**

**Danger Level: Moderate**

**Reward for Kill: 60 Points**

Terry's heart skipped a beat. A Drocaly. He didn't know much about them, but the word alone was enough to send chills down his spine. The creature turned its head toward him, its glowing yellow eyes piercing through the darkness.

He knew that this was going to be really tough but the thought of the reward stirred him to move on. If this was a way to survive and train then he was ready to do so . Moreover, he would have enough points to rent the godforsaken flame aura.

"Great," he muttered. "Another monster."

The Drocaly let out a low growl, its body shifting unnaturally as it stepped closer.

**System Alert:**

**Kill the Drocaly to claim 60 points.**

The notification flashed in Terry's vision, but he barely had time to process it before the creature lunged.

Terry dove to the side, narrowly avoiding the Drocaly's claws as they slashed through the air. He scrambled to his feet, gripping his knife tightly.

"System!" he shouted. "Activate Flame Aura!"

**Insufficient points for activation. You must rent Flame Aura for 10 points. Proceed?**

Terry gritted his teeth. "Yes, proceed!"

A surge of heat erupted from his body as the Flame Aura activated, surrounding him in a flickering orange glow. The Drocaly hesitated for a moment, its yellow eyes narrowing as it assessed the new threat.

Terry didn't wait for it to attack again. He charged forward, slashing at the creature with his knife. The flames enhanced his strikes, and the blade managed to cut through the Drocaly's tough hide, eliciting a screech of pain.

Terry didn't let it go just like that , he had to explore this ability he had rented . He charges out a flame energy , lashing it forward against the Drocaly with every night in him .

The strike sent the creature down causing ut to roll on heavy dust . It charged on noticing the current status of it's enemy .

The creature retaliated with a swipe of its claws, catching Terry's arm and sending him stumbling backward. Blood seeped through his torn sleeve, but the pain only fueled his determination.

"Come on!" he shouted, his voice echoing in the night. "Is that all you've got?"

The Drocaly roared and lunged again, its movements a blur. Terry ducked under its attack, driving his flaming knife into its side. The creature howled, black smoke rising from the wound as the flames burned it from within.

But the fight was far from over.

The Drocaly twisted its body, dislodging the knife and slamming Terry into the ground. He gasped as the air was knocked out of him, the creature's weight pinning him down. Its jaws snapped inches from his face, and the stench of decay filled his nostrils.

"System!" he gasped. "Help me out here!"

**System Suggestion:** Use Flame Aura again. Remaining uses: 1.

Terry clenched his fists, his frustration boiling over. "Fine! Rent it again!"

The flames reignited, surging with renewed intensity. Terry gripped the Drocaly's head, forcing the fire directly into its face. The creature thrashed and screamed, the flames consuming it.

With one final, ear-piercing screech, the Drocaly collapsed, its body disintegrating into ash.

Terry lay on the ground, panting heavily. The smell of burnt flesh lingered in the air, and his arms trembled from the effort.

**System Notification:**

**Drocaly Defeated. Awarding 60 Points.**

**New Ability Unlocked: Teleportation Magic (Cursed).**

**Note: This ability can be rented twice per session for 15 points each.**

Terry groaned, sitting up and wiping the sweat from his brow. "Another cursed ability? Are you kidding me?"

The system didn't respond, of course.

He scrolled through the new ability's description, his frustration growing with each word. The teleportation magic was powerful, but like everything else in his cursed system, it came with a price.

"You couldn't just give me a normal system, could you?" he muttered.

Still, he couldn't deny the small thrill of accomplishment. He had killed the Drocaly—on his own, no less. And the reward wasn't just the points or the new ability.

**System Notification:**

**Congratulations! You have leveled up to Level 2.**

The words flashed before him, and Terry felt a strange warmth spreading through his body. It wasn't much, but it was progress.

For the first time since arriving in this cursed world, he allowed himself a small smile.

Curl's voice startled him out of his thoughts. "Terry? What's going on out here?"

He turned to see her standing in the doorway, her expression a mix of concern and confusion.

"Just dealing with a little pest problem," he said, forcing a casual tone.

Curl raised an eyebrow. "A pest problem? At this hour?"

Terry gestured to the pile of ash that was all that remained of the Drocaly. "Let's just say it wasn't your average rat."

Curl stared at the ash, then back at Terry. "You're insane, you know that?"

"Maybe," he admitted, brushing himself off. "But at least I'm alive."

She sighed and shook her head. "Get some rest. You look like you've been through hell."

As she disappeared back inside, Terry allowed himself one last glance at the sky. The clouds had begun to clear, revealing a sliver of moonlight.

"I'm not done yet," he whispered, clenching his fists. "This is just the beginning."

And with that, he turned and walked back inside, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. He knew he was not done exploring this world but that made him to think more on about escaping and getting free but he remembered Curl's voice . Freedom was only but a dream to be fantasied.
