Chapter 7: Chapter Seven:The path to the Elf village
Terry had been informed by Side that he would be delivering a message for Mr Wesdon . He really wasn't looking forward to that . His mind puzzled on the fact that his system was cursed . He had to find the cause and the solution. The curse was really limiting his ability. He had thought about this before getting a nice cold sleep in the slave quarters .
The morning sun cast long shadows over the cobblestone courtyard of Mr. Wesdon's estate. Terry stood with his bag slung over one shoulder, the weight of his new mission sinking in. Beside him, Soden adjusted the twin daggers strapped to his belt. The sharp-featured warrior exuded calm confidence, his posture loose yet ready.
"Terry," Mr. Wesdon began, his voice as steady as always, "this journey is not only about forming alliances with the elves but also about understanding your potential. Casatero is a man—rather, an elf—of immense power and influence. He holds resources we need, but be cautious. He values strength and intelligence above all else." Mr Wesdon said with a smirk on his face. He seemed to be lively this morning and Terry could not help but marvel at this .
Then the thought of another journey stroke him to reality . He was going to embark on another journey ? Was delivering messages the only job of a slave ? Despite the fact that it sounded easy it was not easy for Terry because his system was giving him a hell of challenges but he could not help but obey . He was to obey his master always .
Terry nodded, glancing at Soden, who gave him a reassuring grin. "Don't worry, kid," Soden said. "I'll make sure you don't get eaten by anything in the woods. Probably."
Terry rolled his eyes but couldn't help the smirk tugging at his lips. Together, they left the estate, stepping onto the dirt path that wound its way toward the forest of Lommers, a dense and foreboding stretch of land separating them from the elf village.
---
As they approached the outskirts of Lommers, the air grew thick with an oppressive energy. The trees loomed tall, their gnarled branches forming a canopy that blocked out much of the sunlight. The forest was eerily quiet, save for the occasional rustle of leaves and distant animal calls.
"This place gives me the creeps," Terry admitted, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly. His eyes darted around, scanning for any signs of danger.
He hated the places in this Dead world. He began to fantasize Goblins erupting from nowhere but it did not seem to happen . He just kept his head low to avoid the sensation of fear from building up in him.
"Stay close," Soden said, his tone unusually serious. "Lommers isn't just a forest. It's alive in a way that defies understanding. And it's hungry."
The words hung heavy in the air as they ventured deeper. It wasn't long before they encountered their first sign of trouble—a clearing littered with what looked like hollowed-out husks of animals and humanoid figures. Terry felt a chill run down his spine.
"That's the work of soul-suckers," Soden explained, crouching to inspect the remains. "Creatures that drain life and essence. If you see one, don't hesitate. Fight or flee—no middle ground."
Terry swallowed hard, his heart pounding. He imagined himself as the dead creature but he couldn't help the nausea feeling
"Noted."
---
They hadn't gone much farther when the first attack came. A shadow darted between the trees, too fast for Terry to fully register. Soden reacted instantly, flames erupting from his hands as he launched a fireball at the movement. The light illuminated a grotesque creature—a twisted amalgamation of bone and shadow with hollow, glowing eyes.
The creature shrieked and lunged. Terry sidestepped just in time, swinging his sword in a wide arc. The blade connected, but it felt like cutting through smoke. Soden's flames, however, seemed to burn it effectively, forcing the creature to retreat.
"Use your abilities!" Soden shouted. "You've got the stats for this!"
Terry focused, summoning the energy of his system. A surge of power coursed through him as he activated his abilities, his body feeling lighter and stronger. He moved with newfound agility, sidestepping another attack and slashing at the creature's core. This time, the sword struck true, and the monster disintegrated into a puff of black smoke.
---
The battle didn't end there. More creatures emerged from the shadows, their numbers growing with each passing moment. Terry and Soden fought side by side, a whirlwind of fire and steel. Terry quickly realized the significance of Soden's dual abilities—fire and an unusual, almost telekinetic control over his daggers. It was mesmerizing to watch, but Terry had no time to admire.
He focused on his own stats. His strength and speed allowed him to cut down the creatures with increasing efficiency. Every kill seemed to fuel him, and he could feel his system tallying the victories.
*Level up!*
The notification appeared before his eyes as he killed his tenth creature. His body tingled as his stats surged—strength, agility, speed, and luck all increased by ten points. He felt unstoppable, his movements faster and more precise.
"Terry, watch out!" Soden's voice snapped him back to reality. A larger creature, twice the size of the others, emerged from the shadows. Its glowing eyes fixed on Terry, and it let out a guttural growl.
---
The fight was brutal. The creature was stronger and faster than anything they had faced so far. It took all of Terry's enhanced stats to keep up, dodging its powerful strikes and looking for an opening. Soden's flames scorched its hide, but it refused to fall.
Finally, Terry saw his chance. The creature overextended in a lunge, and Terry struck with all his might, plunging his sword into its core. It let out a final, piercing scream before collapsing into ash.
The forest grew quiet once more. Terry panted, his chest heaving as he leaned on his sword for support.
"Not bad, kid," Soden said, clapping him on the shoulder. "You're getting the hang of this."
Terry grinned despite himself. "Thanks. I think I'm starting to understand what Mr. Wesdon meant about potential."
---
As they continued their journey, the forest seemed less threatening, though they remained on high alert. Terry checked his system status, marveling at the changes. He had reached Level 3, and the 100 points he had been awarded felt like a treasure trove.
*Current Stats: Strength 19, Agility 20, Speed 24, Luck 19.*
He couldn't help but smile. For the first time, he felt like he was truly growing into his role in this strange new world. The journey to the elf village was far from over, but he was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
With Soden by his side, Terry knew they could face anything—even the enigmatic Casatero and his thirteen slaves. The thought of meeting the powerful elf filled him with equal parts excitement and apprehension. One thing was certain: this mission would change everything.
