Chapter 3: chapter 3 ::Dinner with Liam
Tia and I are in Joey's car, feeling really drunk and having a mixed-up chat that I probably won't recall in the morning. Once we get to the house, I head to my room and take a cold shower. Then I realize the hard truth: I might be alone for the rest of my life. I shared my feelings with Dylan, but he just wanted to be popular with the girls, which made me really upset. I cried a lot. Now it's morning, and I wake up to the loud noise from Joey and Tia. I stretch my arms, put on my joggers, and quickly run into the living room. "Good morning, Miss Evans," Conrad says as he stands in our kitchen without a shirt, showing off the tattoo on his neck. "Morning, Conrad," Joey replies while cooking breakfast. "How did we end up back home?" I ask, turning my neck to take a look, but the hangover hits me hard. "It's a real surprise to see you and Tia both drinking," Joey says to me. "That's because you didn't see us back in college. We were straight-A students during the day and party animals at night," I laugh. "Hmm..." "Back in the day," I slide onto a stool. "So, how did Derrick feel when he saw you again?" Tia looks at me with a puzzled expression. "He was so excited! He's really accomplished a lot for himself," Tia laughs. "I wish I had gone out with him instead of Dylan," we both smile. "Yeah, who knows? You could be living in a penthouse in Manhattan." I shiver at the idea, but I can't help biting my lower lip when I imagine seeing Conrad Howard totally naked. He is an amazing guy, like a perfect piece of art. He has a slim build, but I can see he has been working out.
He leans on the table, getting so close that I can smell him. "What are your plans for Saturday?" I laugh a little. "I'm working this afternoon. Why do you want to know?" He gives me a small official card. "I heard you want to have some fun? I'm the master of fun, so give me a call when you're done with work." I feel my face turn red. "I'll remember that," I reply. Joey brings me a plate of pancakes, and I quickly finish my breakfast. Then, I walk back to my room, put Conrad's card in my purse, and head to the bathroom. Later that afternoon, I run into Liam in the elevator. "Hey, neighbor," I say, feeling a bit embarrassed. Liam seems like a great guy, just as everyone has said. "Hi, Liam! I'm sorry about last night," I tell him, and he laughs. "Why are you saying sorry?" I push a piece of hair behind my ear. "It's probably for making a mess after I got drunk," he smiles. "You are definitely the craziest person I've ever met." I feel a bit embarrassed; that's not the response I was expecting, but he smiles again. "That's great because I enjoy wild things," I reply with a nod. "Really?" he laughs. "Edie, I'm an auditor. The most exciting part of my job is tracking down missing money, and that can be pretty dull at times," I feel my cheeks heat up. "You're an auditor, huh? You must be really smart!" he laughs. "I like to believe that I am," he replies as the elevator comes to a stop with a ping sound.
"Where are you going?" I ask, glancing at the large bag he's holding. "I'm taking these clothes to get dry cleaned, then I'll be hanging out with the guys for about four hours before heading home. What about you?" I feel my cheeks turn red as I look at his clothes. "I'm working this afternoon and I'll finish by 7 pm," I say while trying to hail a taxi. "Edie, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" I nod and reply, "Yeah, I would." He grins and helps me whistle for a cab, which then pulls up right in front of us. "I know a spot that serves delicious food." It's a nice day at the radio station as I try to discuss with the program editor what type of show I want to create. Back in LA, I seemed like the ideal girl in the perfect relationship, giving tips on how to keep a guy. Meanwhile, Dylan was out cheating on me with every girl in a skirt. Everyone thinks of me as the ideal Edie Evans, but I wanted to prove that I'm not as perfect as they believe. That night, I received a text on my phone, and it was from Liam.
Liam: Hey Edie, don't be scared, it's me, Liam. I just wanted to see if we're still on for dinner tonight ?
I think he has likes me, but after dating a few guys, I know better than to assume too quickly.
Eddie: Yeah, we still are. I just finished work and I'm on my way to you now. But I'm not sure where to find you.
Liam: Alright, see you later at the Armani/ristorante, at the 720 Madison Avenue .
Edie: Alright, I'll see you soon.
Later, I walk through the front door and tell the restaurant, i tell the waitress that I'm here to meet someone. She nods in response. As I look around the restaurant, I suddenly spot Liam standing behind me. "Are you searching for someone?" His calm and soothing voice made it clear. "Hey Liam, did you just arrive?" he laughs. "Maybe I'm pretending that I haven't been waiting for the last hour," I reply with a chuckle as we head back to his table. He waves to the waiter then says, "I hope it wasn't too hard to get here?" I nod in response. "No, it wasn't; the traffic was okay," he replies, blushing a bit. The waiter approaches our table and greets Liam in a friendly and respectful way. "Good evening, Mr. Warren," he says, giving him a slight smile as if they've met before. " Hi Andrew, Please bring us a two glasses of red wine." He scans the menu with his long fingers.
