Chapter 4: chapter 4:: Conrad Howard is in my business

Chapter 4"Would you like to order now?" I nod while looking at my menu. It's just a menu. "I'll have the Raviolo," he says, getting a bit embarrassed. Andrew nods and writes my order in a small notebook. "I'll have Sogliola," he says to her, and she nods in response. "Your order will be ready soon." We put the menu down, and he looks at me intently. "Edie, I just had to know more about you, so I asked Joey." I lift my eyebrow in surprise. He takes a deep breath, but I can't help but laugh. "Feel free to ask me anything you'd like to know!" He gives a gentle smile and nods. "Yep, that's right." "I'm sorry for asking without you knowing," I said while resting my hands under my chin. "Hmm... do you always say sorry?" "I guess it's just how I am." "I grew up in a foster home, and my parents weren't very loving," he says, feeling a bit shy. I don't want him to feel pity or awkward. "I was adopted as well." "I understand what you're saying, Liam. You don't have to feel embarrassed about it," he blushes, but his smile doesn't show any warmth. "You were adopted." "What happened to your parents, if you don't mind me asking?" I feel a chill as I remember the sad event from my past. "My mom passed away during childbirth, and my dad was wrongfully accused of murder when I was just twelve. He couldn't handle it, so he took his own life two months later." "His death, the true killer was discovered," he looks straight at me. I can tell he is unsure of what to say. "I'm sorry about your parents," he finally says.

"It's okay, Liam. I mean, I can talk about it now because it happened a long time ago," I flush.

We remain quiet for five minutes before the meal arrives.

"You know, I was going through a mid age crisis and I bought a dog and a cat. Turns out I'm not a cat person," I stare at him for a few seconds before bursting into laughter.

"Mid age crisis?" He flushes.

"Yeah, midlife crisis. Has it never happened to you?" He asks, and I chuckle.

"Nope, it hasn't. I get midlife crisis, but mid age?" He scratches his nose nervously.

"I might have made that word up, but I did get a cat and a dog," I grin hardly as he continues.

"I'm glad I made you laugh."

"Yeah, mid age crisis. I'm sure I'm gonna use that word," he picks up his cutlery.

When I hear his name being called out by someone behind me.

We both turn, and there is Conrad. He is with a beautiful lady, straight legs. She must be 6 feet tall or more.

"Conrad, hey man," they both shake hands, and I say Hi to the lady he's with.

"Hi, Edie," I flush.

"Hi, Conrad," I say politely.

"What are you two doing here?" He asked, as if he couldn't see we were both having dinner together on a date.

"I asked Edie to join me to come eat dinner," he chuckles.

"I guess there are things she's into," he is staring intently into my eyes, not minding the fact that I am with Liam or the lady next to him.

"Who doesn't love food?" I ask, but just then, a waitress returns. "Mr. Howard, we have a table ready for you now." He flushes brightly. "That's my cue . I'll leave you two to whatever you were up to," Conrad says as Liam nods and says goodbye. Conrad is gone and Liam's turns to offer me an apology "I'm sorry about Conrad; he often seems rude," He says while I pick my cutlery and begin to eat "Liam, you don't need to keep apologizing. He's an adult," I tell him as I take a deep breath. After I'm done I take my little purse With me "I want to fix my makeup, so please don't go anywhere," i say, he points me toward the restroom. As I head that way, Liam pointed, I let out a sigh. There's something about Conrad that really makes me angry . I stand by the door, waiting for my turn to use the restroom. Once I'm done, I wash my hands and step outside. "Hey Edie," Conrad greets me as he leans back against the wall. He looks relaxed, with his long legs in blue jeans and a cream-colored shirt. "Why aren't you with your date?" I ask, and he gives a small grin. "So, you prefer boring guys?" His remark instantly puts me off. "Shouldn't you be with your date?" He nods. "She knows that I'm not a guy who sticks to one girl." I nod and try to walk away, but he steps in front of me. "Come on, Edie, I can tell you like me. The way you looked at me on Friday shows you're interested, so why don't we just have some fun?" He doesn't just sound disrespectful; he actually is. "Thanks for the offer, Conrad, but I'm not into players anymore." I'm just lying; he seems like my next mistake, but I won't let him speak to me that way. I head back to Liam and tell him that I want to go home, but he offers to give me a ride."
