Genshin Impact: The Crit Archon

Chapter 55: Artifact

A tortche was lit, as a group of knights was walking as they were being lead by Kaeya, and next to him was Amber

Kaeya looked at the walls, his blue eyes sseing the marking in the walls. "And you say you and you division just found this place Amber".

Amber was using her Pyro Vision to make a small fire to light up the cave. "Yes we did, we sent a team to investigate and will they found this"

They walked as they saw an accident city, it seemed like it was centuries sense people had lived here, moss and dust was all over the plays, from the cracks in the wall somes sunlight came out, the building was accident and even had text on the wall that seemed not there language, spider webs was all over the place kind and they were standing on a slope, as then Kaeya put his hand on the ground as he froze it.

Kaeya looked at amber. "You first".

Amber nodes a sage slides down the ice, followed by Kaeya and the small group of knights they brought with them.

The group made their way deeper into the abandoned city, their footsteps echoing eerily through the vast underground cavern. The walls were lined with faded murals, depicting strange creatures and celestial bodies, as if the city had once been home to people who revered the stars.

Amber scanned the surroundings, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. "This place... it feels like it hasn't been touched in centuries. What could have happened to the people who lived here?"

Kaeya narrowed his eyes, examining the markings on the walls. "I don't know, but I suspect this might be related to an artifact. The architecture here is old, but the designs—these markings—they're unfamiliar. It's almost as if this city was erased from history."

They continued exploring, the group slowly moving through the maze of collapsed buildings. The deeper they ventured, the more it became clear that this city was far older than anything they had encountered in Mondstadt. Despite its dilapidated state, there was a strange energy in the air, a faint pulsing that seemed to resonate with their very souls.

"Look!" one of the knights called out, pointing towards a pedestal in the distance. Upon it rested a glowing object, its ethereal light casting long shadows on the walls around it. The object looked like a small, intricately carved stone tablet, covered in unfamiliar symbols.

Amber's expression brightened as she stepped forward, her hands instinctively reaching for her bow. "Is that the artifact we've been looking for?"

Kaeya nodded, his eyes reflecting both caution and intrigue. "It could be, but let's approach carefully. This place doesn't seem like it would offer up its treasures so easily."

As the group approached the pedestal, Amber noticed the symbols on the stone tablet glowing faintly. The moment she stepped closer, the ground trembled beneath their feet. The walls seemed to shift, revealing hidden mechanisms that whirred to life. With a sudden flash of light, the once-quiet city began to rumble as if waking from a long slumber.

"Stay alert!" Kaeya shouted, his sword already drawn. The knights behind him readied their weapons as they formed a protective circle around Amber and the artifact.

Amber, undeterred, focused on the glowing stone. "What's happening? It's like the city itself is reacting to the artifact!"

Suddenly, the ground split open in front of them, revealing a hidden passage that led further down into the depths of the city. Kaeya's eyes widened in realization. "It's a trap, but it could lead to more answers. We need to find out what's causing all this."

Without hesitation, the group advanced into the dark passage, their torches flickering as they moved deeper into the heart of the abandoned city. Each step they took seemed to draw them closer to the ancient mystery that lay within the ruins. Amber and Kaeya exchanged a determined glance, both understanding that they were about to uncover something far more dangerous than they could have imagined.

The passage grew darker as they ventured deeper, the walls now slick with moisture, and the air thick with an unsettling stillness. Amber led the way, her Pyro Vision illuminating the path ahead with flickering flames. Kaeya followed closely behind, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger.

As they descended, the eerie pulsing from the artifact grew stronger, resonating through the very air. Kaeya's brow furrowed. "The closer we get to whatever this is, the more it feels like we're being pulled toward something... ancient."

Amber didn't respond immediately; she was too focused on the path ahead, feeling a strange pull toward the artifact. It felt like it was calling to her, a force beyond comprehension. "I've never felt anything like this before. Whatever this place is, it's ancient... and it doesn't feel like it belongs to Mondstadt."

Just as Amber spoke, the passage widened into a grand chamber. The air here was dense, charged with energy. At the center of the room stood a large altar, much larger than the pedestal they had seen earlier. The altar was surrounded by cracked stone pillars, and the floor was covered with faded, intricate patterns that matched the symbols they had seen on the tablet.

And there, on the altar, lay a massive object, glowing faintly. It was a stone, though unlike any they had seen before. It seemed to absorb the light from the torches, casting a shadow that stretched unnaturally across the room.

Kaeya stepped forward, cautious. "Is this it?" His voice was barely a whisper as if afraid to disturb the stillness of the chamber.

Amber nodded slowly, her heart racing. "It's definitely something... this energy—it's different from anything I've ever felt."

The moment she took a step closer, the ground beneath them rumbled again, and the large stone on the altar began to tremble. Kaeya immediately raised his sword, his eyes scanning for any potential threats. The walls began to shake, and a loud, deep hum filled the chamber, echoing through the ruins.

"I think we've activated something," Kaeya said, his voice tense.

Before Amber could respond, the air shifted. A figure materialized in front of the altar, seemingly made of the very shadows that filled the chamber. It was a tall, cloaked figure, its face obscured by the hood, but its presence was unmistakably powerful.

The figure spoke, its voice resonating with an otherworldly tone. "So, the intruders have arrived."

Amber quickly nocked an arrow to her bow, but the figure raised a hand, and the arrow faltered mid-air, as if caught by an unseen force. "You are not here by chance," the figure continued. "You have been drawn to this place by the artifact. But you cannot take it."

Kaeya narrowed his eyes, his grip tightening on his sword. "Who are you?"

The figure slowly lowered its hood, revealing a face that was both human and something else entirely. Its eyes glowed with a pale, eerie light, and its features were sharp, almost unnatural.

"I am the guardian of this place," the figure replied, its voice calm but filled with authority. "This city was once home to my people, but now... it is a prison, a tomb. And you, children of Mondstadt, are trespassers."

Amber stepped forward, determined. "We didn't come here to disturb your resting place. We're here to understand what happened, to protect Mondstadt from whatever this artifact is."

The figure's eyes flickered with an unreadable expression. "You believe you can control the power within? This artifact is not meant to be wielded by mortal hands. It holds the power to destroy, to reshape the world."

Kaeya's eyes were sharp, assessing the situation. "Then what do you propose we do? Stand aside while you keep the power to yourself?"

The figure tilted its head, almost as if considering Kaeya's words. "I will not let you take the artifact, but I will not destroy you either. However, if you wish to leave with your lives, you must prove yourself worthy."

A low growl echoed from the depths of the chamber as the air grew colder, and the shadows seemed to deepen. The ground cracked open, and from the fissures rose strange, twisted creatures, their forms distorted and unnatural. They were the remnants of an ancient race, now corrupted and bound to the artifact's power.

Amber and Kaeya readied themselves, their weapons drawn. "Looks like we don't have a choice," Amber said, her voice steady despite the tension. "We'll have to fight."

The guardian's gaze lingered on them, a mixture of resignation and curiosity in its eyes. "Very well. Let us see if you are worthy of the artifact's power."

With that, the battle began. Amber and Kaeya fought side by side, their movements synchronized as they took on the corrupted creatures. Kaeya's ice magic slowed the creatures' movements, while Amber's fiery arrows cut through the shadows, sending bursts of light through the darkness.

Despite their strength, the creatures were relentless. Their twisted forms seemed to adapt to every strike, growing more and more powerful as the fight continued.

Kaeya, sensing the growing danger, turned to Amber. "We need to get rid of the source of their power! The artifact—it's feeding them."

Amber nodded, her eyes scanning the chamber. "I'll cover you! You need to destroy it!"

With a swift motion, Kaeya dashed toward the altar, his sword glowing with a cold, blue light. The guardian watched silently, its expression unreadable, as Kaeya raised his blade, preparing for the final strike.

But just as Kaeya was about to bring the sword down, a sudden force pushed him back, sending him crashing to the ground. The guardian stepped forward, its eyes glowing brighter now, its power palpable.

"You will not destroy the artifact," the guardian said, its voice filled with power. "It is the key to everything. The world will change if it is lost."

Kaeya gritted his teeth, getting back to his feet. "I'll be the judge of that."

As the battle raged on, Amber and Kaeya knew one thing for sure: they were about to uncover the truth of this ancient artifact—and face the consequences of their actions, no matter what they might be.

Kaeya gritted his teeth and stood tall, his sword raised as he prepared to face the guardian. Amber, having dispatched a few more corrupted creatures, glanced over at him, her face set in determination.

"We can't let this thing keep controlling the city," she said through gritted teeth, her bow at the ready. "Kaeya, we need to find a way to neutralize the artifact, no matter what it takes."

Kaeya nodded, wiping the blood from his lip. The pressure was mounting, and their options were running thin. The guardian's power was overwhelming, but he refused to give in. "We need a plan," he said, his voice steady despite the growing tension in the room. "I'll draw the guardian's attention. You focus on getting to the artifact."

Amber gave a quick nod, understanding what needed to be done. "Got it. Stay safe, Kaeya."

With that, the two separated, Kaeya advancing toward the guardian while Amber dashed toward the artifact at the center of the room.

The guardian's glowing eyes followed Kaeya's every move, its hand rising slowly as the shadows around it writhed in response. "Foolish mortals," the guardian spat, its voice like the rumble of thunder. "You cannot defeat what has been bound to this place for eons. You are merely pawns in a game much larger than you understand."

"Maybe so," Kaeya retorted with a smirk, his sword glowing with icy energy, "but I don't mind playing the fool if it means saving Mondstadt."

He charged forward, his sword flashing as he unleashed a wave of freezing ice toward the guardian. The guardian raised its hands, summoning an enormous barrier of shadow to block Kaeya's attack, but Kaeya was already moving, dodging to the side and sliding across the slick ground.

Amber was not far behind, using her agility and speed to avoid the remaining corrupted creatures while keeping her eyes locked on the glowing artifact. She could feel the pull of the artifact more strongly now, its power swirling through the room like a tempest, desperate to be released. She could feel it whispering to her, calling her name—but she didn't listen. Her focus was unwavering.

With a swift motion, Amber leaped over a creature that lunged at her, landing just in front of the altar. The artifact before her was bathed in an eerie glow, pulsating with unnatural energy. It seemed almost alive. Amber hesitated for only a moment before pulling an arrow from her quiver.

Her Pyro Vision flared to life as she focused the flame into the tip of the arrow, aiming directly at the stone. The energy radiating from it was unlike anything she had ever felt. She could almost feel the heat of the flame in her hands as she took a deep breath and released the arrow.

It soared through the air, embedding itself into the artifact. A crack ran through the stone as the explosion of Pyro energy detonated upon impact, sending a shockwave through the chamber. Amber shielded her eyes, and Kaeya had to dive to avoid being hit by the blast.

For a moment, everything was still.

Then, the artifact pulsed violently, and the chamber seemed to shake with an intensity that rattled the walls. The guardian let out a scream, its form flickering as if it were being torn apart by the energy. Amber's heart raced. "It's not enough!" she shouted.

Kaeya, realizing the same, swiftly moved to her side, narrowly avoiding a wave of shadow energy that the guardian had sent their way. "We need to do more," he shouted over the noise. "This thing is resisting!"

The guardian, its form distorting further, turned its gaze toward them. "You cannot stop this," it hissed. "You do not understand the magnitude of what you have unleashed. The world is not ready."

Kaeya narrowed his eyes, his mind racing. "Maybe the world isn't ready. But Mondstadt is," he replied. "And that's all that matters."

He rushed toward the guardian, his sword glowing bright with icy energy. Amber followed his lead, this time using her Pyro Vision to create a wall of flame behind them, keeping the remaining corrupted creatures at bay. Together, they were a blur of motion, Kaeya striking with precision and speed while Amber used her arrows to create openings.

The guardian, seemingly weakened by the attack on the artifact, attempted to summon more shadows, but it was clear that its strength was fading. The ancient power that had once sustained it was slowly dissipating, and it began to stagger, its form becoming less and less solid.

Amber looked at Kaeya, her face set with determination. "Now's our chance."

With a battle cry, Kaeya charged forward one final time, his sword raised high. The guardian tried to summon another shadow barrier, but Kaeya was faster. With one clean strike, he pierced through the remaining resistance, his sword meeting the guardian's heart.

The room went silent.

The guardian's body crumbled, the shadows vanishing like smoke in the wind. The artifact in the center of the room flickered and then grew dark, its energy dissipating as the echoes of the guardian's voice faded.

Amber and Kaeya stood in the aftermath, breathing heavily as the shadows around them began to recede. The chamber was still, its oppressive atmosphere lifting.

"Is it over?" Amber asked, glancing at Kaeya.

He nodded, wiping sweat from his brow. "For now, yes. But we'll need to report back to Mondstadt. This artifact... we don't know everything about it. And I have a feeling this won't be the last time we encounter something like this."

Amber looked around the room, her eyes lingering on the now-dark artifact. "Do you think it was really just a tool, or is there something more we're missing?"

Kaeya shook his head. "I don't know. But I'm sure of one thing: there are still secrets left in this world. And it's our job to uncover them."
