Ghost Slayer: My Wife Kanao

Chapter 7: ch7

"Will you come out of here with me?" Sam Miller asked as he squatted down to Kanao Tsuyuri.

The girl's star-like eyes showed little change, as if she had lost the ability to express emotions or make choices. Seeing this, he fell silent, feeling an inexplicable sadness in his heart. What kind of childhood had she endured to become like this, a walking shadow of life?

"I will definitely protect you and never let you get hurt again," he said seriously, placing a hand on her shoulder.

As his serious words landed, the girl who had been silent and emotionless seemed to be slightly moved. For a brief moment, Sam thought he saw a flicker of hope in Kanao's lifeless, beautiful purple eyes. But that hope vanished as quickly as it appeared, as if it had never existed.

Perhaps the girl's heart had long closed itself off, unable to accept warmth from the outside. Or perhaps she dared not accept warmth anymore, fearing the pain of losing it after feeling it.

Looking at Kanao, Sam spoke in the gentlest tone possible: "No matter what, please remember, I am still your fiancé. You will rely on me in the future. So, don't be afraid."

He reached out and took Kanao's thin hand, ready to lead her out of this place. Since there was nothing Kanao wanted to take with her from this childhood home that brought her so much sadness, perhaps it was best never to return.

As for Kanao's parents, that pair hardly deserved to be called parents at all.

Holding Kanao's hand, Sam led her out of the room.

In the yard, Kanao's parents were happily chatting with the man named Ichiro Tamoya.

"I am very satisfied with your daughter, and I agree with your price," Ichiro Tamoya said, pulling out a purse. As he did, the sound of jingling coins could be heard.

Kanao's parents looked at the purse in Ichiro's hand with greedy eyes and, without hesitation, said, "Master Ichiro Tamoya, don't worry, from today on, our daughter is yours. Whatever you want to do with her has nothing to do with us."

Sam, who was walking out of the room with Kanao, heard this conversation and felt an inexplicable gloom wash over his eyes. This despicable pair was selling their daughter to a slave trader for a bit of money.

Did they really consider Kanao to be their daughter? Or had they never seen her that way?

Sam subconsciously lowered his head to look at Kanao, worried. After all, Kanao would be deeply hurt if she heard her parents talking about selling her to a slave trader.

But, surprisingly, Sam didn't sense any emotion from Kanao. Even as her parents sold her, she didn't feel any sadness. She seemed to have truly lost the ability to express emotion. Even being sold by her parents didn't stir the slightest sadness in her.

"I really want to kill them," Sam muttered through gritted teeth, as a golden light glowed slightly in his palm. But he hesitated for a moment and then withdrew it. No matter what, they were still Kanao's parents. How to deal with them should be Kanao's decision, not his.

But looking at Kanao with her empty eyes, she seemed unable to make any decisions right now.

Taking a deep breath to suppress the agitation inside him, Sam decided that for now, he couldn't deal with her parents. In the future, when Kanao got better, it would be up to her to decide.

As Kanao's parents accepted the money, Ichiro Tamoya turned his attention to Sam and Kanao, who had just walked out. Finally, his gaze settled on Kanao's emaciated body.

As a slave trader, his eye for potential had always been sharp. Although the girl appeared extremely thin, with a gray face and shabby clothes, he could see the potential in her with his keen eye.

A beauty in the making. Moreover, she was the perfect, submissive slave, one who wouldn't rebel against her master. Whether such a slave was kept for personal amusement or sold to dignitaries and nobles in the future, she was a lucrative investment.

"I didn't expect to find such good merchandise in a place like the slums," Ichiro Tamoya murmured, stepping forward and reaching out to pull Kanao away from Sam.

He had paid, and the girl was already his slave.

However, as his hand stretched out, it suddenly stopped. Under the bamboo hat, the boy stared at him with a pair of golden eyes.
