Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Moving Forward

On the main street, Law ran toward the church with his shoulder bag slung across his back.

'Of all people to run into yesterday, it just had to be Hisoka. That creep! Just one glance, and he locked onto me!'

Thinking about the close contact with Hisoka in the house just now, Law shuddered involuntarily. Although Hisoka did not exude any killing intent, Law was sure that being fully subdued by him would lead to nothing good.

The only reason he had managed to kick Hisoka away so easily was his prior knowledge of Hisoka's Nen Ability. However, Law didn't know to what extent Hisoka had mastered his Nen Ability.

What he should be more concerned about now is... whether that kick had sent him to climax or not?

'If that pervert targets me because of this, it would be troublesome.'

At that thought, a few dark lines appeared on Law's forehead, and the image of Hisoka with a devilish face automatically appeared in his mind.

'Great, just my luck to provoke Hisoka. There is also the Yorknew Auction in September. If I don't improve my Nen Mastery as soon as possible, I will be in danger at any time.'

'I have to become stronger as soon as possible. But with this money, I won't have to worry about living expenses for a while, and I can focus on training in the future.'

Law shook his head to dispel the image of Hisoka of his head, adjusted the bag on his shoulder, and picked up his pace.

Before long, Law returned to the church and went straight to the ward where Uvogin and the others were recovering.

Nobunaga was still sleeping soundly, Uvogin was lying on the bed, seeming to try to control his Aura's flow, and Machi sat with her eyes closed, her brows furrowed as if deep in thought.

Hearing the sound of Law opening the door, Uvogin and Machi both looked toward the entrance.

Meeting their gazes, Law quickly walked to the table, took off his shoulder bag and placed it on the table.

"What is this?" Machi asked curiously, looking at the bag so close to her.

Law chuckled, then opened the shoulder bag, and poured the stacks of banknotes out onto the table.

"Now you don't have to worry anymore, right?"

Machi and Uvogin stared at the stacks of banknotes on the table, not reacting.

After a while, Machi snapped out of her daze, looked at Law with wide eyes, and asked in surprise: "Where did all this money come from?"

"I raided Cook's hideout." Law replied nonchalantly as he smoothed out the pile of banknotes and arranged them in rows to make them easier to count.

Hearing this, Machi's eyelids twitched, and she said seriously, "I'm starting to see you in a new light."

"Haha, you're amazing! Good job! Cough... cough..."

Uvogin laughed so hard that the injury on his chest hurt, forcing him into a coughing fit.

"With this money, you guys can focus on recovering without any worries."

Law said with a smile. There were a total of forty-six bundles of banknotes on the table. Each note had a denomination of one thousand Jenny. Each bundle contained 100,000 Jenny, amounting to a total of 4.6 million Jenny. It was more than enough to last them a good while.

Machi placed her hand on the money. Even though it was her first time seeing so much cash, she wasn't overwhelmed with excitement. Instead, she felt relief that their immediate concerns had been resolved.

"Thank you, Law."

Machi suddenly thanked Law sincerely. If it weren't for Law, she really didn't know what to do.

In Meteor City, injuries often spelled doom. For most people, sustaining severe injuries meant abandoning all hope of survival.

Law quietly observed Machi's earnest expression. After a moment, he smiled and said, "I'm the one who should be thanking you."

If it weren't for Machi taking him home, providing him with food and shelter, and taught him the common language, who knew where he'd be now?

'Come to think of it, if it had been anyone else, they probably would have turned a blind eye.'

'I really have to thank Machi for her 'intuition'...'

Machi pulled out a single bundle of cash, waved it at Law, and said, "Consider this even for the food expenses."

At the same time, she silently said in her heart: 'As for the favor, let me owe you for now.'

"Even if the interest is tripled, it's only three bowls of rice soup a day, not even a plate of pickled vegetables. Isn't it a bit too much to take 100,000 Jenny?" Law said as he rubbed his chin with a serious expression.

Machi immediately shot him a deadpan glare, then pulled out another bundle of banknotes as if in protest, which is a faintly childish gesture.

Law let out a wry chuckle. He was just joking.

Everyone may like money, but it is not omnipotent. For example, it couldn't mend the loneliness of the past.

The thought stirred memories he hadn't revisited in a while, causing him to fall into an unintentional silence.

At the start... things weren't like this.

At the beginning, he had companions, like-minded people who shared his interests and goals.

However, as the places he visited became more and more dangerous, the number of people around him began to decrease.

Until... someone gets completely 'left behind' while climbing a mountain.

Law naively thought that he could use money to soothe the family's sorrow, but he was kept kicked out and didn't even have the right to attend the funeral.

After experiencing that incident, when he finally came to his senses, he realized he was completely alone.

So, in the end, he can only move forward alone.

However, a person's power is ultimately limited. Fortunately, God was kind to him and not only did the accident not take his life, but he also gave him a unique opportunity.

"Law, are you okay?"

Hearing Machi's voice, Law suddenly looked up, shook his head slightly, and said, "I'm fine."

Machi pursed her lips. When Law was silent just now, she had caught a glimpse of a loneliness in his expression that seemed far beyond his years.

"Now that we have money, how about getting the church to bring us something to eat?" At this time, the heartless Uvogin raised his hand and suggested.

Even though it was Law who had procured the money, Uvogin would not be polite because he would remember this favor.

After hearing what Uvogin said, Law and Machi realized they were feeling hungry.

"If it's church's food, forget it." Law thought of yesterday's meal, which was already the highest standard in Meteor City...

Uvogin wondered aloud, "Where else are we supposed to get food besides the church?"

"From me." Law pointed at himself and said with a grin.

"…"

Uvogin thought about it, then looked at Machi, and said seriously: "Machi, I think the food in the church is more reliable."

"Agreed." Machi nodded.

"You two... just wait." Law's mouth twitched slightly, and he said irritably, "Don't blame me if you end up swallowing your utensils later."

"Hmm? Is it mealtime already?"

Nobunaga, who had been sound asleep, suddenly sat up, his eyelids half-lowered in a groggy state.

Uvogin glanced at Nobunaga and said, "Pretty much."

"Then I'll wait until after dinner before continuing to sleep." Nobunaga said with a yawn. His recovery seemed almost miraculous compared to his miserable state two days ago… maybe sleep really did help heal injuries.

Law scratched his head, too lazy to pay attention to them. He took out a bundle of banknotes and tucked it into his pocket before leaving the room.

Law didn't want to make a special trip to an unfamiliar market, so he simply borrowed the church's kitchen and ingredients to make a few dishes.

Whether the church would agree didn't matter much. With a bundle of cash in his pocket, convincing them wouldn't be an issue.

As soon as Law left the room, Uvogin looked at Machi and asked worriedly, "Is what Law made edible?"

Machi turned her back to him and said flatly, "I don't know."

Nobunaga looked at the two of them in confusion. Having just woken up, he didn't know what was going on. He only knew that there would be food soon.
