Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Kitchen

The buildings in Meteor City were uniformly bland and rectangular, with little to no distinguishing features.

Amid this drab architecture, the church stood out like a crane among chickens.

Law walked around the church alone, trying to find out where the kitchen was.

After walking around for quite a while, he still hadn't found the right place.

While walking in the corridor, Law happened to meet a middle-aged woman in nun's clothes. He stopped her and asked which direction the kitchen was.

Under the guidance of the middle-aged nun, Law finally located the kitchen.

The entrance led into a modest space with a wooden table pressed against the wall, holding an assortment of utensils. To the right was a sink built from stone.

As Law walked into the kitchen and glanced left, he saw a simple stove with a black iron pot on top and a large electric rice cooker beside it.

When he saw the kitchen for the first time, he thought it was an ancient kitchen with backward conditions, but the presence of a modern electric rice cooker next to the stove made it feel oddly mismatched.

A few steps away from the stove is a fireplace with a peculiar black grill inside, which is probably the tool used to smoke meat.

The kitchen was not big and there was no one in it.

Law took a quick glance and found that basically everything that should be there was there, though whether the spices were adequate remained to be seen.

"There's no one here, so I can't use it on my own."

Law walked to the corner next to the stove, where there were piles of potatoes, which seemed to be the staple ingredient.

After glancing at them briefly, he turned his attention to the jars and containers on the stove.

"This is salt."

"Having oil is good enough."

"Huh? Is this vinegar? And... is this chili?"

Law picked up a small white chili pepper from one jar and examined it closely.

In terms of shape, it is similar to the chili peppers on Earth, but its white color made it look unusual.

'The things that can be placed on the stove are likely seasonings and auxiliary ingredients.'

After hesitating for a moment, Law threw the white chili into his mouth and chewed it. In an instant, a powerful spiciness erupted in his mouth.

"It's strong." Law was stunned. He didn't continue chewing. Instead, he swallowed the white chili pepper in his mouth whole, and then he let out a deep breath.

He could have spat it out, but Law had a habit of never wasting food once it was in his mouth. No matter how unpleasant it tasted, he would always swallow it once it entered his mouth.

"I thought they'd only have basic oil and salt for seasonings. Guess I underestimated them."

Law wiped the sweat from his forehead and walked towards the cupboard against the wall with a little excitement, wanting to see what good things were inside.

"Who gave you permission to come in here?"

Just as Law was about to open the cupboard, a gruff and displeased voice came from the doorway.

Law's body stiffened. He withdrew his hand that was reaching for the cupboard, and slowly turned toward the source of the voice, forcing an awkward smile. For some reason, he felt like a thief caught in the act.

Standing at the door was a middle-aged fat man with broad shoulders. He wore a sleeveless shirt and black pants, with a large cleaver tucked into his belt. His face combined benevolent brows with menacing eyes, creating a contradictory expression.

The man's tone was thick with irritation, and even his benevolent brows looked a little ferocious.

Having intruded into someone else's territory, Law knew he was in the wrong. He quickly put on an apologetic expression and explained, "It's like this… I wanted to borrow the kitchen, but no one was here when I arrived."

When the middle-aged fat man heard this, he pulled out his cleaver without saying a word and showed a threatening look.

This action stunned Law slightly, and he wondered if this guy was another Nen User?

As soon as this thought came to his mind, Law gathered his Aura in his eyes and then looked at the middle-aged fat man.

Only a small amount of Aura was seen flowing out from the middle-aged fat man's body, indicating that this person was not a Nen User.

Seeing this, Law breathed a sigh of relief, 'Since this guy wasn't a Nen User, then it would be easy to deal with.'

With that in mind, Law pulled out the bundle of cash from his pocket and explained: "No need to get worked up. I'm not asking to use it for free, I will pay for it."

The middle-aged fat man glared at Law, and without saying a word, he raised his cleaver and charged straight at Law.

"Was that really necessary?"

Seeing this, Law smiled bitterly. He dodged the middle-aged fat man's cleaver by moving sideways, then gathered a small amount of Aura in his hands and chopped him on the back of his neck.

With a dull thud, the middle-aged fat man fell to the ground and fainted. Despite falling unconscious, his cleaver remained gripped firmly in his hand.

"Well, you can't blame me for this."

Law muttered as he glanced at the middle-aged fat man and then continued to rummage through the cupboards.

However, the good stuff he had imagined did not appear. There were only a few pieces of smoked meat. The fact that he'd already found chili peppers and vinegar seemed like a small miracle.

"Guess I'll make stir-fried shredded potatoes with smoked meat."

"Given the limited ingredients, it seemed like the only viable option."

Law selected a few decent-looking potatoes from the pile, then brought them to the sink. Using a nearby ladle, he scooped water from a large tank to wash the potatoes.

After that, he filled a bowl with water and placed it next to the stove. Then, he placed the potatoes and a piece of smoked meat onto the wooden cutting board.

"Where's the knife?"

Law was about to cut the potatoes and smoked meat, but couldn't find any knife, so he turned around and looked at the middle-aged fat man lying on the ground, or to be precise, at the cleaver held in the middle-aged fat man's hand.

Law scratched his cheek, walked to the middle-aged fat man, squatted down and tried to pry the cleaver out of his hand.

"Huh?"

Law tried hard to pull the kitchen knife out of the middle-aged fat man's hand, but failed after several attempts.

"You've got to be kidding me."

Seeing that he couldn't pull out the cleaver, Law gave up with a bitter smile. He stood up and walked back to the stove. Without a knife, he planned to use the God Hand to process the potatoes and smoked meat, which would also be a good opportunity to train his control.

Though Law had bluffed Hisoka earlier with the 'omnipotent magician's hand'. In fact, his God Hand Nen Ability is just as its name suggests, worthy of being called omnipotent.

However, in order to truly unleash the power of God Hand, Law must not only have extremely sophisticated control, but also have sufficient Potential Aura.

With the help of the white smoke text, Law had the potential to master all six Nen Categories to 100%. According to the characteristics of each Nen Categories, the God Hand might be able to produce various unique effects.

Even if no other effects can be derived, he can still develop Nen Abilities in other Categories.

Humans have limited talents, and only by conforming to their own Nen Categories can they maximize their Nen Abilities. If they try to find another way, it will only end up being a thankless task.

Usually, a Nen User can only develop one type of Nen Ability. If they develop two types of Nen Abilities, they often ended up becoming mediocre.

But Law is different. Ever since arriving in this world, he had stepped beyond conventional limitations, and becomes the most special existence.

If one day he can train the six Nen Categories to 100%, perhaps as long as he understands how other people's Nen Abilities work, he will be able to copy them directly.

This theoretical possibility rested on achieving perfect control, which is a skill that even God Hand tested rigorously.

Cutting a potato into uniformly thin strips wasn't just a casual task, as it required incredible precision. Though this is not an intentional training session, Law wanted to take it seriously.

Placing a potato on the chopping board, Law took a deep breath and his expression gradually became focused.

'First, peel off the skin.'

Law extended his hand over the potato, and gathered his Aura to form a transparent white sphere about the size of a basketball.

'If I compress the range, it should be much easier to control. On the contrary, if the range is expanded, it will basically be impossible to operate.'

Theoretically, as long as Law has enough Aura, he can expand the range of God Hand like the circle in the advanced Nen Technique, En.

Law willed the white sphere to shrink to the size of a small ball. Then, he held his breath and slowly pressed it towards the potato.

The white sphere enveloped the potato, and under Law's careful control, the potato's skin was slowly peeled off.

It took almost a minute to completely peel off the potato's skin.

The process had been slow, sacrificing efficiency for precision. Law made a mental note to practice increasing speed while maintaining the same level of control in the future.

After peeling the potatoes, Law exhaled deeply, thinking that he should practice his control more often in the future, otherwise, at this speed, he would not be able to use it in battle.

Pushing the potato skin aside, the next step was to slice the potatoes into uniform strips, which is more difficult than peeling them.

'Since it's easy to peel the skin, it shouldn't be hard to cut it into strips.'

Law pressed the white sphere against the bare potato once again.
