Haikyuu - I Am A Different Hinata!

Chapter 36: Chapter 36 - Fun and unexpected encounters

Hinata had just returned home after the match against Nekoma and was lying in bed, about to sleep.

"My skills have been growing a lot in recent months, my planning and training have been bearing fruit, especially because the weapons I created have been successful - my serves, receives, and block readings, and now being able to play as a wing spiker I can use my over the line attacks," Hinata thought.

"The only thing that hasn't evolved as much was my ambidexterity, which is still being worked on, so I decided not to use it in the match against Nekoma... and as for my body that I've been working to improve, it's no longer as skinny as before and is now starting to get defined," Hinata thought, interrupted by a notification sound from his phone.

"Hey, Hinata! Tomorrow morning I'll need your help at the mall to buy new shoes!" Tanaka said through a message.

"Alright... see you tomorrow!" Hinata replied, a bit surprised by the sudden event and then forcing himself to sleep.

During breakfast, Hinata was eating scrambled eggs together with his sister and mother.

"Where are you going so early before class? I thought you trained at this time," his mother asked.

"My friend needs help buying new shoes. To be honest, I don't know why he'd need help, but I won't refuse to help," Hinata said while eating.

"Alright! But don't get distracted at the mall and be late for class!" she warned.

"Leave it to me!" said Hinata.

"And how are you getting there? It's not that close," his mother said.

"I'm not sure either, but Tanaka asked for my house address and said he'd pass by..." Hinata said while hearing a car horn in front of his house.

"A car? Maybe it's him?" Hinata thought while looking through the window and saw a van with a blonde girl driving and Tanaka sitting next to her, and he could also see Kageyama and Nishinoya sitting in the back seat.

"Hey, Hinata! Hurry up!" Tanaka shouted.

"It's him! Goodbye!" Hinata said, saying goodbye to his mother and heading toward the van and opening the door.

"Man, why do you need so many people just to buy shoes!" Hinata questioned.

"Well, mine was very worn out, and then I had the brilliant idea of using this time to have fun with my first-years before class!" Tanaka said excitedly.

"Oh! That sounds cool, Ryu!" said the blonde girl driving.

"Is this your sister?" Hinata asked.

"Yes! I'm Saeko Tanaka, but you can call me Big Sis!" said the girl taking one hand off the wheel to make a peace sign.

"Amazing, Big Sis!" Nishinoya said, impressed with Saeko's pose.

"The road! The road!... please look ahead!" said Hinata, who was traumatized by roads and such.

"So you woke up this early just to take Tanaka to the mall?" Kageyama asked.

"Not just that, I need some things too, so I'll drop you off there and buy what I need, then we'll meet back here at the van and I'll take you to class," Saeko said.

After the group arrived at the mall, they separated from Saeko and went in another direction.

"Alright, guys!... we want to have fun but we can't forget the goal which is to buy new shoes!" Tanaka said.

"There are several sports shoe stores around here, is there one you particularly like?" Hinata asked.

"There's the... Look at that over there!" Tanaka said while heading toward an entertainment area of the mall.

"What happened to focusing on the mission?" Hinata asked, watching Tanaka approach an air hockey table.

"What's the problem? One game won't hurt anyone! Go to the other side!" Tanaka said.

"Alright then, I'll just score one goal on you and end this quickly!" Hinata said.

"Impossible!" Tanaka shouted while grabbing the paddle and hitting the puck straight toward Hinata's goal.

"An attack at this level will never work on me!" said Hinata grabbing his paddle in time and returning the puck to Tanaka's field, who hit it straight again, and for a few seconds, they kept frantically returning the puck straight to each other.

"Are you seeing this, Kageyama? IT'S A HIGH-LEVEL BATTLE," Nishinoya said.

"Yes!" Kageyama said, nodding in affirmation while focused on their duel.

"Take my special move!" Hinata shouted while hitting the puck on the side, making it bounce off one corner of the table then the other and scoring on Tanaka's goal.

"Damn! I can't believe it!" Tanaka complained.

"Ok! Now let's go to the shoe store or we'll end up wasting time!" Hinata said.

"Wait! Kageyama and I want to have our duel too, right?" Nishinoya said.

"Yes, you can go ahead and we'll catch up with you," Kageyama said.

"Then it's decided," Tanaka said while heading toward the store where he usually bought shoes.

"Why did you suddenly decide to buy new shoes anyway? Until yesterday they seemed usable!" Hinata said.

"They were fine until the game against Nekoma, but at night after I got home, I was very excited about winning a game against them and the coach's speech about having to be champions to go to nationals, I had to train a bit and after a jump I made, the sole of the shoe came loose a bit and now here we are!" Tanaka said while entering a store called Kicksu.

"How can I help you?" asked a clerk with long black hair.

"I need new volleyball shoes in size 28, please!" Tanaka requested.

"Alright! I'll get some models for you!" the clerk said.

"While you try them on, I'll go to the bathroom," Hinata said while going to the store's bathroom.

"Ok!" Tanaka said.

"Here! We have these four styles available, take a look!" the clerk said.

"Alright!" he opens the first box and sees a white shoe with purple details.

Tanaka starts trying to try on the shoe when he lifted his foot to put it on, he ended up bumping his back into a girl who was trying shoes on the same bench as him, but on the other side.

"I'm sorry!" Tanaka said while bowing his head.

"Ryu!?" said a female voice.

"Kanoka!?" Tanaka said startled as he observed a girl with short black hair and large black eyes.
