Chapter 38: Chapter 38 -The Coronation
After classes ended, Hinata went straight to the gym to wait for practice, and there he found Kageyama stretching and Tanaka sitting on the floor in a meditation position with his eyes closed.
"What's this guy doing?" Hinata asked.
"I have no idea. When I got here, he was already like this and didn't respond to my calls," Kageyama said.
"Well, since you're here, I need to go back to practicing spikes with my left hand. Can you help me?" Hinata asked.
"Yes," Kageyama said while positioning himself to set the ball.
"Bring it on!" Hinata said as he jumped and noticed the ball passing by him, slightly hitting his left hand and falling on the other side of the court.
"Damn it! I hit it, but it was weak. This wouldn't help at all," Hinata said.
"Try again... I want to test something!" Kageyama said.
"Alright!" Hinata said as he jumped, and the same weak spike happened.
"Okay then, there's something we can try!" Kageyama declared with his hand on his chin, thoughtfully.
"What do you have in mind?" Hinata asked.
"Since you started training with your left hand, I've been setting for you as if you were going to do the same normal spike with your right hand because that's how you want to do it, to have the surprise element of others not knowing which hand you're going to use... but I thought that since you're still just improving, it might be better if I modify the set directly for your left hand as if it were your dominant hand," Kageyama explained.
"Well... that might work," Hinata said thoughtfully.
"Get ready, I'm going to set!" Kageyama said, snapping Hinata out of his thoughts and adjusting his body to make a quick set aimed directly at Hinata's left hand, which then jumped and hit the ball normally with his left hand.
"Looks like it worked," Kageyama observed.
"The attack came out normal, but I still can't put the same amount of force into the ball as I do with my right hand because I'm not completely ambidextrous yet, but I think if I keep training this way... it's just a matter of time," Hinata said.
"Yes, let's keep practicing..." Kageyama said.
"AAAAAAAAAH, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!" Tanaka suddenly shouted, opening his eyes.
"Have you finally lost it? Waking up and shouting randomly," Hinata said.
"It's not random, I was alone here and used this time to reflect on what to do about Kanoka," Tanaka said.
"What about her?" Kageyama asked.
"Since I met her again at the mall and she gave me her number, I can't get her out of my head, and I don't know if I should text her and what the message should be, and if I'm really going to betray Kiyoko," Tanaka pondered.
"First, you haven't sent a message yet? Second, betray under what circumstances when she never even responds to your compliments," Hinata said.
"So you really think I have a chance, you're not joking?" Tanaka asked.
"Of course I'm being serious," Hinata sighed.
"Being honest... from what Hinata told me, even I can see it," Kageyama said.
"See what?" Daichi said while entering the gym along with the rest of the members, except Nishinoya.
"They must be talking about Tanaka's friend that he's trying to pursue," Ennoshita said.
"Ah, the one who also plays volleyball?" Asahi asked.
"That's the one!" Ennoshita answered.
"Wait... what shoes are those, Tanaka?" Tsukishima said with a mischievous look while pointing at Tanaka's pink shoes, causing all club members to laugh.
"HEY! I bought them by mistake! Shut up!" Tanaka shouted while the rest of the members continued laughing.
"Alright! Is everyone here?" Ukai asked after entering the gym.
"Where's Nishinoya?" Kageyama asked.
"I'M HERE!" Nishinoya said while entering the gym with a box and placing it on the floor.
"Hey, Nishinoya, what's in that box?" Ukai asked.
"Well! Since in the last match against Nekoma, everyone saw how amazing Hinata is, I thought we needed to have a ceremony to declare a new ACE!" Nishinoya shouted while opening the box and taking out a golden laurel wreath, a red cloth, and some kind of golden scepter.
"What's all this?" Hinata asked while watching Nishinoya putting the laurel wreath on his head and the red cloth around his torso and handing him the scepter.
"For the ceremony of our new emperor, you need to be dressed appropriately!" Nishinoya said.
"I can't believe what I'm seeing..." Tsukishima said incredulously.
"Who gave you the right to remove Asahi from our Ace position and decree who would be our emperor!" Tanaka questioned.
"Do you think there's someone better?" Nishinoya said.
"THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM!" Tanaka shouted while clenching his fists.
"Hey, Tanaka!... it's okay, as he said... we all saw that Hinata deserves this title more than I do right now, and I'm aware that Nishinoya is doing this to motivate me, so... let's leave it like this," Asahi said.
"Now that you're all done with this, it's time to start today's practice!" Ukai said.
"Yes!" Everyone shouted in unison.
After this, the Karasuno players had another training routine that consisted of first doing basic physical exercises, then reception training, and finishing with attack training.
"This is really amazing!" Nishinoya said holding a magazine in his hands and talking with Tanaka and Sugawara.
"What are you guys doing?" Hinata asked.
"Look at this!" Tanaka said grabbing the magazine and showing a photo of Ushijima on display.
"Wow! This guy is Wakatoshi Ushijima from Shiratorizawa... he has a whole page just for him? I'm jealous!" Hinata said.
"I didn't think you'd be someone who would care about this kind of thing," Sugawara said.
"Well, who doesn't want to be known and recognized for their talent!" Hinata said.
"If you continue at this level, you might get one in the future!" Ukai said.
"A magazine page just for Hinata? That would be incredible for Karasuno," Sugawara said.
"But remember that Shiratorizawa isn't our only strong opponent..." Ukai warned.
"You're talking about the top four from last year?" Tanaka asked.
"There's another strong opponent... Wakutani Minami, with strong defense and teamwork. Although with the level you've shown, it's not something we need to worry about, but if you underestimate them, you might end up in trouble," Ukai observed while reading a paper.
"Date Tech is a team known for their iron wall of strong blocks, and if I remember correctly, it was the team that eliminated you but lost the third round match to Shiratorizawa. They'll be a problematic opponent, no doubt!" Ukai said.
"Aoba Jousai, a team with one of the most balanced players in the prefecture, Oikawa Toru being the best attacker and still being the team's setter. You won a practice match against them recently, but that doesn't make them less dangerous," Ukai continued.
"And finally, the current champions, with the super ace, Wakatoshi Ushijima," Ukai finished.
"There are many strong teams, but you're not the same as you were months ago with the addition of new members and with training. I'm sure you have the potential to beat all of them and become champions, but remember that it's not just you who are training honestly, everyone is, because they want to win!" Ukai said.
"Sorry I'm late!" Takeda said entering the gym.
