Improving the Vanishing Cabinet was a familiar task for Wade, and he completed the work in half the expected time.

Learning the Disillusionment Charm was somewhat complex, but Wade had been self-studying for a long time and already had a solid foundation in Transfiguration. By Saturday evening, he had finally learned the Disillusionment Charm.

At the moment, his Disillusionment Charm only altered color, and close observation could still detect him. However, if his magical power became strong enough, the Disillusionment Charm could make him completely invisible.

Additionally, the Disillusionment Charm was also necessary for repairing the Invisibility Cloak.

With his planned tasks completed, Wade still had a full day left for the weekend.

Lupin's expression turned a bit uneasy. "The Imperius Curse is one of the three Unforgivable Curses... Are you familiar with the Unforgivable Curses?"

"I am," Wade said calmly. "The Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Killing Curse are the three Unforgivable Curses. Using them on a person results in a lifetime sentence in Azkaban."

"If you know that, then you should understand that I would never teach you such a spell!" Lupin responded firmly. "These are evil dark magic, and no one should learn or even approach them!"

"It's getting late, you should return to school," he said and turned to open the Vanishing Cabinet.

"Don't be so sensitive, Remus," Wade said. "I'm not asking you to teach me the Imperius Curse; I just wanted to know, can Occlumency resist the Imperius Curse?"

Lupin realized he had misunderstood and felt a little embarrassed, though he didn't blame himself for being overly cautious.

Wade wanted to learn everything, and he learned everything quickly. Even though he had surpassed the level of many graduates, he still seemed unsatisfied.

That kind of insatiable hunger and desire for knowledge... Sometimes it even frightened Lupin.

When he finished learning all the traditional spells, would Wade turn toward more powerful dark magic?

Lupin didn't know, but a sense of responsibility made him constantly worry about this.

He thought for a moment before saying, "As long as one's willpower is strong enough, it's possible to resist the Imperius Curse. However... Occlumency does indeed help."

In fact, Occlumency not only helps to resist the Imperius Curse, but it also prevents possession and can even counter the effects of Veritaserum.

The Wizengamot had once believed that Sirius might know Occlumency, and thus even an interrogation under Veritaserum couldn't guarantee he was telling the truth.

Considering the situation back then—Sirius's murder of Peter, his infamous role as the Secret Keeper, and the fact that the Potters were killed by Voldemort in their own home…

In the end, Sirius Black was sent to Azkaban without a trial.

Life imprisonment.

All these years, Lupin had never had a chance to ask his old friend… why…

Lupin's expression grew distant for a moment until he heard the voice of his student in front of him.

"I've been practicing Occlumency for a long time," Wade said. "I'd like you to help me test my progress."

Practicing the art of emptying one's mind isn't complicated, but the line between true focus and merely spacing out isn't exactly clear.

Without ever experiencing an actual mental intrusion, it's difficult to gauge if one's Occlumency skills are strong enough to fend off such attacks.

After a moment of silence, Lupin asked, "Aren't you worried I'll see your memories?"

"I trust you won't sift through my thoughts needlessly. And if it involves something truly private, I have other magic to resist that," Wade replied.

Harry's experience from the story had taught him that with sufficient alertness, defensive spells could also interrupt Occlumency.

For example, Expelliarmus. (Disarming Charm)

"…Alright."

Lupin couldn't find a reason to refuse. He took out his wand, and said, "If you're ready, we can start."

"Of course…" Wade drew his wand as well. "Let's begin."

"Three, two, one… Legilimens!" (Legilimency Spell)

The spell intruded… Lupin felt a strong resistance and perceived only blankness.

One second, two seconds…

After about ten seconds, it suddenly felt as though a bubble had burst, and a whirlwind of images flashed by rapidly…

Eating in the Great Hall… attending classes… doing homework… eating in the Great Hall… walking through the corridors with friends… doing homework… attending classes…

Lupin abruptly broke off the spell.

"Weren't you resisting?" he asked in surprise.

Given what he knew about Wade, his Occlumency skills shouldn't only last a mere ten seconds.

"If I completely empty my mind, wouldn't that be like signaling that I'm hiding something?"

Wade said with some discomfort, "I tried not to recall anything at all, but then I thought… maybe it'd be better to overlay important memories with trivial ones…"

Lupin was speechless for a moment.

Wade asked uncertainly, "Did I mess it up?"

He remembered that Snape was a master of Occlumency and had even spied undercover for Voldemort. If Voldemort tried to look into Snape's mind, would Snape really show him a blank slate?

He must have let the Dark Lord see only what he wanted, not merely resisting outright.

Wade had been working in this direction all along.

"No," Lupin finally said after a long pause, "Ordinary wizards rarely achieve this level... but if you could learn to overlay memories or even forge them, that would be even better."

"But we need to try a different exercise."

He took a bright red apple from the shelf and placed it on the table. "Look at it and remember this image. Then hide this memory so I can't find it."

Wade stared at the apple.

Lupin asked, "What's your favorite fruit?"

Wade replied casually, "Watermelon, I guess… though mangoes and cherries are good too…"

"Legilimens!" Lupin suddenly cast the spell.

Eating in the Great Hall… attending classes… doing homework… eating… attending classes… flying on a broomstick… a tapestry with a giant troll… reading… a red apple…

A red spell blasted Lupin's wand out of his hand, and Wade stumbled and nearly lost his balance.

His head buzzed and pounded painfully.

Lupin helped him sit down and poured him a cup of hot chocolate.

"That was quite impressive. For your first attempt, this is extraordinary," Lupin praised.

Wade sipped the hot chocolate and felt the strange magic within it soothe the persistent throb in his forehead.

"I didn't manage to hold it back," Wade sighed, disappointed.

He knew he'd instinctively tried to hide the Room of Requirement, but in doing so, had exposed the memory of the apple.

"Don't be so hard on yourself, Wade," Lupin said gently. "Magic this challenging can't be mastered immediately. It requires time and persistent practice."

After resting for a bit, Wade put down his cup, drew his wand again, and said:

"Let's go again!"
