Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Invitation

After receiving a message from the Book of Friends, Theo opened the door of the Vanishing Cabinet and saw Wade looking utterly exhausted with his hair matted with sweat.

"What happened?" Theo reached out to steady him. "You look like you've just fought a dragon."

"Honestly, I'd rather have faced a dragon," Wade replied.

Legilimens might seem like a spell dealing only with the mind or consciousness, but resisting it made Wade feel as though every muscle in his body was straining. By the end of the practice, there wasn't a spot on his body that wasn't sore.

Theo asked in surprise, "Wait, you can actually handle a dragon now?"

"No, I mean… if I were facing a dragon, I'd be running as fast as possible," Wade replied, exasperated. "But this… this was something I willingly signed up for."

As they packed up to leave, Wade noticed the parchment Theo had been using for his notes.

Once the Vanishing Cabinet had been completely perfected, they had naturally run tests and each one was successful.

Although there was no need to compare or analyze the results any further, Theo had still documented everything meticulously, showing no intention of discarding his notes—just as he did in Potions class.

Even though Theo wasn't particularly skilled in Potions, his attention to detail and diligence were unparalleled.

Over the past year, Wade had come to understand his friends quite well.

Michael was sharp and perceptive. Though he seemed easygoing and lighthearted, he was actually shrewd and far-sighted. Often, Wade felt Michael was very clever, though he rarely showed it.

Ryan was quiet, but he was always attentive to everyone, solving problems quietly without seeking praise.

For example, when the targets in the umbrella room were broken or if the crab cleaning models malfunctioned, Ryan was the one who fixed them in secret.

Michael's words echoed in Wade's mind.

"Theo."

As they stepped outside, Wade said, "Starting tomorrow, let's work on the Stunning Spell"

"Sounds good," Theo grinned. "Finally, we're learning a new spell. Everyone's already mastered the Shield Charm and Disarming Spell, so we've been looking forward to learning some powerful new spells."

"Knowing a spell doesn't mean you can use it well, but mastering these three spells just about qualifies you as a wizard ready for real situations."

After a brief hesitation, Wade said, "If you manage to successfully learn the Stunning spell by next Friday, then you and I, along with Michael and Ryan, will have a… well, a club activity next Saturday."

Theo asked in surprise, "Just the four of us?"

"Yes, just the four of us," Wade confirmed, then added, "The nature of this activity isn't exactly a pleasant one… so if anyone doesn't want to join, they don't have to."

"...Got it."

Theo's expression grew a bit more serious; he sensed the hesitation in Wade's tone.

—Wade wanted them to come along but also felt reluctant to involve them.

Theo chuckled lightly. "No matter what the others say, I'm definitely going… will it be dangerous?"

"The danger isn't now," Wade replied. "It's something in the future… related to him."

Theo was startled. "You-Know-Who… did he sneak into the school again?"

"Not exactly," Wade said. "If things go well, we might not need to do anything at all."

"You're making me too curious… can't you give me a few more details?"

"Some secrets can't be spoken, whether now… or ever…"

After returning to his dormitory, Wade found a whole coconut sitting on his desk and couldn't help but laugh.

The sweet, thirst-quenching coconut water was packed with nutrients. Zoe and the others probably thought he needed some quick nourishment.

After drinking, washing up, and going to bed, his exhaustion allowed him to slip quickly into a deep sleep.

Over the next few days, the SSC began practicing the Stunning spell. Theo and the others put in extra effort, and Harry stayed late each time before leaving.

Harry did this because the Umbrella Room was the only place where he could be sure he wouldn't run into Lockhart or Colin Creevey.

The new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, always assumed that Harry shared his desire for attention. Every word out of Lockhart's mouth made Harry want to disappear into the floor with embarrassment.

Colin Creevey would "run into" Harry multiple times each day, always eager to snap a photo of him. This near-stalking level of admiration made Harry quite uncomfortable.

As a result, he often spent most of his time in the Umbrella Room, where he could finally enjoy some peace.

One day, Michael privately asked Wade, "Aren't you going to invite Harry? You know, he… well… easily turned You-Know-Who to ashes."

"There's no need. Even if he is the Boy Who Lived, it's not good to have him constantly encountering that guy," Wade replied vaguely, then suggested, "If we can't use that name, how about a code name?"

"—A code name?"

"What about 'Tom'?" Wade asked.

"Tom? Like the barkeep at the Leaky Cauldron?"

Michael suddenly had an idea and said, "Actually, are you referring to that Muggle cartoon Tom and Jerry? I watched a bit of it secretly…"

His imagination ran with the idea.

"That guy is like Tom—strong, but always outsmarted by the little mouse. And we're Jerry… uh… Jerry?"

Michael hesitated a little.

Ravenclaws, who identified with the "eagle," wouldn't usually think of themselves as little mice.

But when Michael imagined Voldemort as a blue cat who was always defeated, he found the Jerry analogy strangely satisfying. Picturing the Dark Lord's terrifying image morphing into Tom the Cat, he chuckled.

Wade laughed too.

He had deliberately left Harry out of this.

After all, they wouldn't be facing Voldemort himself this time—just a Horcrux. It was the kind of thing best handled quietly.

Including Harry could mean that, when Voldemort would eventually resurrect, he might probe Harry's mind and uncover this information, posing a deadly risk to everyone involved.

He simply wanted his friends to know what he was doing, and to offer help if necessary, not to risk their lives.

...

The week passed quickly. On Monday and Wednesday, Wade found himself in detention with Professor Sprout twice more.

Detention was supposed to be a punishment for breaking school rules, not a reward.

So during the latter two detentions, Professor Sprout spent one hour teaching him new knowledge and the other having him complete some chores.

Fertilizing, transplanting, pest control, pollinating…

While he learned a great deal from each detention, Wade was left sore and exhausted.

On his way back to the castle, he overheard Malfoy's voice: "I am not a servant! If my father finds out you're making me do this, he'll have you kicked out of school!"
