Harry Potter's : Fantastic Beasts Guide

Chapter 59: “Idiot! Did I Teach You This Way?”

The potions classroom buzzed with anticipation the following day. David, still a little sleepy, entered and immediately spotted Hermione. Waving, he called out cheerfully, "Here, Hermione!"

But Hermione, still upset from their argument the day before, simply snorted, hesitated, and deliberately chose a seat far from him.

Neville quickly claimed the seat next to David, looking relieved. Potions class had always been his personal nightmare, but with David beside him, he managed to follow instructions without mishap. For once, Neville left the lesson with no explosions or melted cauldrons.

After class, as David planned to approach Hermione, Harry and Ron dragged him back to the dormitory.

"What's going on?" David asked, puzzled by their urgency.

"Do you know anything about a giant, three-headed dog?" Harry blurted out.

David's mind immediately jumped to Moloch. Wait, didn't they sneak out last night? he wondered.

"Well, I do," David replied cautiously. "Why?"

Ron explained in a hushed voice, "It's Malfoy's fault. He tricked us last night! We were supposed to duel, but he never showed up. While we were trying to avoid Filch, we ended up in this room and—" Ron's voice dropped to a dramatic whisper. "We saw it! A massive dog with three heads! Each head was huge—probably twice the size of mine!"

Harry added, "There was a trapdoor under its feet. We think it's guarding something, maybe something Hagrid hid there."

David feigned surprise. "A three-headed dog in the castle? That's… interesting. They're very dangerous creatures, so whatever it's guarding must be important."

"Do you know its weakness?" Ron asked eagerly.

David shook his head. "Not really. The three-headed dog isn't exactly common, and I haven't studied it much."

Looking disappointed, Harry and Ron left to brainstorm. Meanwhile, David headed to the library.

The library was bustling with students, but David managed to find a quiet table tucked in a corner. He spread out his notes, working on a potion recipe to help heal the unicorn he'd encountered.

After about an hour of scribbling, a familiar voice broke his concentration.

"Excuse me, may we sit here? There's no space anywhere else."

David glanced up and recognized Kelly Lopez, the shy girl he'd met during the first week of school. She looked much more confident now, with a friendly smile and another girl, Hannah, by her side.

"Of course, Kelly," David replied, gesturing to the empty seats.

Kelly beamed. "You remember my name! Please, call me Kelly."

David exchanged pleasantries before diving back into his work. By the time he finished drafting his potion, it was lunchtime.

"Want to grab something to eat?" David asked Kelly and Hannah as he packed up his notes.

Kelly shook her head with a polite smile, pointing to the thick books they were reading. David nodded and headed toward the Great Hall. On the way, he spotted Hermione.

"Hermione! Let's go eat together!" he called.

Hermione didn't even respond. She turned and walked off in the opposite direction, leaving David feeling a little lost.

That afternoon, David knocked hesitantly on Professor Snape's office door.

"Professor, are you there?"

The door creaked open, revealing the tall, imposing figure of Snape. His black robes billowed slightly as he crossed his arms.

"What do you want?" Snape asked in his usual cold tone.

"Professor Dumbledore said you could help me make a potion for a unicorn," David explained nervously.

Snape's eyes narrowed. "Oh, really? The boy who sleeps through my lessons now seeks my help? How charming."

David winced and bowed slightly. "I'm sorry, Professor. I haven't been sleeping well lately, but I promise it won't happen again."

Snape huffed but stepped aside, motioning for David to enter.

The office was dimly lit and felt more like a dungeon than a workspace. Shelves lined the walls, stacked with jars of strange, sometimes grotesque ingredients. David's stomach turned at the sight of something that looked like an eyeball floating in green liquid.

"What are you staring at?" Snape snapped. "Get over here."

David quickly handed Snape the recipe he'd created.

After skimming it, Snape raised an eyebrow. "At least you've been using your brain outside of class," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Then he pointed to the workstation. "You will brew this potion yourself. I will supervise and offer corrections, though I doubt even that will save you."

David swallowed nervously and began organizing the ingredients. He chopped, crushed, and mixed, trying to recall every detail from their potions lessons.

"IDIOT!" Snape barked suddenly, grabbing the knife from David's hand. "Did I teach you to handle ingredients like this? Look carefully!"

Snape demonstrated, his hands moving with swift precision. David nodded, sweat beading on his forehead.

As Snape continued to oversee the brewing process, his sharp critiques kept David on edge. But by the end, David had a completed potion—and an even deeper respect for Professor Snape's skill.

"Next time," Snape said with a sneer, "try not to waste my time. Now get out."

"Thank you, Professor!" David said quickly before leaving the dungeon-like office, clutching the potion tightly.

As he walked back to the dormitory, he couldn't help but think, Potions class may never be the same again.
