Chapter 5: Chapter 3: Break the Rule

Mia's POV

I felt restless in my seat, and it didn't help that I sat between Jerome and Dave. All our classmates are focused on the teacher who is speaking in front. I feel like only Matt and I are feeling this way.

"Do you think she's okay?" I ask Matt, who is looking seriously outside.

He didn't answer, but he was also worried about Zein. Zein is the only one separated among us. Even though she's strong, she's still a girl.

I started to sweat again, remembering everything that had happened earlier. The red-haired man's grin was frightening…

I LOOKED out the window since I felt bored with Math.

I frowned when suddenly a red-haired man appeared on the side of my window, meaning he was outside the classroom--grinning at me. He had earrings in his ears, white skin, and a sharp jawline. He's tall and broad.

I couldn't take my eyes off him. I couldn't even look at Zein, who had been calling me earlier. He just stood there for a few minutes and stared at me. Soon, a grin appeared on his lips again. It was startling.

The events that followed were fast. He disappeared, and I saw a man tied to a chair. I was so shocked that I cried and clutched Zein's arms...

__**__

WHO is he? Did he do that to distract me and have his colleagues put the man in that chair? Why did they do that? What did they want? I asked in my mind.

"Miss Almia Mendez, are you with us?"

I felt blood rush to my face from embarrassment. It seemed like our teacher had been calling me for a while. "Sorry," I apologized politely.

I looked at Dave as I felt his hand on mine.

Zein's POV

I feel sweat dripping from my forehead, and my heart beats rapidly. The way this girl stares at me makes me feel like I'm on a trial.

"Are you okay?" she asks with a smile.

I nod without looking at her. Who is she? What does she have to do with the Black Blood Gang nail symbol? Shit! Was she an accomplice in killing that man?

"Do you want to know everything?" she whispers. I feel something strange. My palms are already sweating.

Wait, what is she talking about? Is it about HU?

"No, I can find that out on my own. I don't need your help," I answered bravely.

She laughs so hard it's deafening. Our classmates can't even look at us because they feel like they'll die if they look at her.

Who is she really? What rank is she in HU?

"Your curiosity will kill you, Zein. If you really wanna know the truth, you must find it yourself, or you may choose the easiest way… and that's breaking the ONLY rule," she whispered again.

I frowned. I couldn't understand and think straight because of the overwhelming presence of this girl.

Soon, our Professor arrived, looking nervous. He was sweating profusely and looking around as if hiding from someone.

"You're late, Mr. Dimatalo," said the girl beside me.

He starts sweating even more and seems to be trembling. What's wrong with him, Professor? Is someone chasing him? My curiosity is killing me.

"I'm sorry," our Professor replied before starting.

I couldn't focus on what he was teaching. My mind had been wandering for a while, and it felt like my brain was about to explode from thinking about so many things.

What's really going on in this university? I kept asking myself.

"Poor, Pathetic girl! If I were you, I wouldn't interfere, or you might leave this world prematurely," said the girl next to me, once again gaining my attention.

I took a deep breath to steady myself and then looked at her. My eyes met her very black eyes.

"Who are you?" I asked.

She smirked before looking away. "Let's just say I'm one of the most feared here. No one has ever dared to yell at me like you do. Do you know why? Of course not. That's why you're going to find an answer, right? Go! Feed your curiosity. Just now, you've impressed me, Miss Zein Shion. What else will you do next that will amaze me even more?"

What is she saying? I just shrugged. Honestly, the class ended with me in a daze.

My last class was from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., 30 minutes before Bloody Night. I decided not to go because I knew my friends would be worried. I also wanted to know something about the girl beside me, so I followed her. I kept changing places to hide so she wouldn't see me.

Am I doing the right thing? Or am I just bringing myself closer to danger? Shit! Even though I was nervous, my curiosity still prevailed.

Suddenly, the girl disappeared. I looked around and came out of my hiding place. Haist! So absent-minded!

Then I feel something cold and sharp on my neck. It seems like a small knife or something, and if I mistakenly move, I would be stabbed with it. I remembered the symbol of the nail on the tongue of the murdered man.

"Are you ready to die?"

My whole body went cold. I closed my eyes tightly when I felt the tip of the sharp object pressing against my neck.

Shit! Is this the end?

"You're so bold. You think you can trick me? You don't know me. I have killed many people, and it seems like you want to be one of them, too, right?"

That's why everyone fears her. She's skilled at killing. I opened my eyes. "Who are you?"

I breathed a sigh of relief when she let go of me. She quickly hid the nail that she grazed at my neck in her blouse.

"You wanna know my name?" she asks. "Well, I'm Nicky. Next time listen carefully, bitch?!"

She pushed me so hard that I plopped down and got distracted. When I looked up, she was gone. I put a hand on my chest; my heart is pounding intensely, and my breathing hastened.

I stayed sitting because my knees felt weak. I don't know how long I had been sitting there.

"You don't have class?"

I was surprised and turned around. I immediately stood up and faced the guy wearing eyeglasses and holding a notebook. He looked like a nerd, but why did his stare at me weaken my knees?

"Full name."

"Zein Shion."

He frowns as he opens the notebook, looking for my name. He looks like a typical student, but why does he act so strangely?

"Boom!"

I shrieked, causing him to laugh out loud.

"Why did you do that?"

He adjusted his glasses and looked at me seriously again.

"You still have class. Why are you here?" he asked instead of answering my question.

"Why do you care?" I was about to leave when he grabbed my arm tightly. His nails almost dug in.

"Aww!" I squirmed in his grip, but a few seconds later, he pushed me away. Making me lose my balance again and sit on the floor.

This guy is so strong. Is he just an ordinary student? He has the strength of a monster.

"Look at your arm," he ordered.

His nails dug into my arm. It hurt so much that I felt like I had been cut by it.

"That's your first warning, Miss Zein Shion. If I see you wandering around during class again, I might cut off your arm completely," he smirked before turning his back on me.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Ace Craige, the 'Supreme' Student President of Hell University. Nice meeting you, Ms. Shion."

I just followed my gaze on him as he walked away from me. He turned into a hall when I suddenly remembered something.

"President? Ace?" I whispered.

Is he the one Nicky was talking about when I was late? Is he the one that students and teachers are afraid of that no one gets late for class? There's something different about that guy; he looks like a nerd, but it's like he's hiding another persona, like a demon in angel's clothing. He's dangerous.

Damn it! We're surrounded by demons.

I rubbed my arm, w, which was injured by Ace's tight grip w, while I was going to my last class. When I entered the classroom, our teacher looked at me w, taking notice of my wound and shaking my head. I quickly covered it.

I walked silently to my seat at the back. Meeting the worried looks of my friends, who seemed to have been waiting for me for a while.

"Where did you go, Zein?! We're worried to death about you!" Vanessa began.

I didn't answer. Still stunned by what happened.

"What happened to your arm?" Matt asked and then removed my hand from covering the wound.

I heard my classmates whisper as they looked at me.

Psh! What's their problem? Is this that big of a deal?

"What happened?" Mia also asked worriedly.

"That's the first warning."

We looked at our teacher. Shaking her head, she approached us and handed us the first aid kit. Jerome took it and treated my wound.

"What is she talking about, Zein?" Dave asked.

"Supremo did that. Avoid taking any offense, or you might end up dead."

I held back my laughter when our teacher said, "Spell OA? Duh! Having these warning things. Psh!"

"Supremo? Who?" Dave asked.

"Ace Craige," the teacher replied, returning to the front of the class. Then, she started talking again as if nothing had happened.

Our classmates listened silently as if they were too scared to talk about Ace Craige. I felt sorry for them. From someone who had only been here for a few days and couldn't sleep well at night, what about them, who had been here for so long? What atrocities had they witnessed and experienced?

Who were the people who built HU? Who were the members of the Black Blood Gang and Devil God Warrior?

I remembered what Nicky said. "Your curiosity will kill you, Zein. If you really wanna know the truth, you must find it by yourself, or you may choose the easiest way… and that's breaking the ONLY rule."

I genuinely don't understand. What is the only rule she's talking about? The only rule I remember is that killing is legal between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

I swallowed hard when I realized what she meant. Does she want me to leave the dorm when Bloody Night comes?

What will happen to me if I do that? I asked myself curiously. Shit! This isn't good.
