Chapter 6: Chapter 4: Bloody Night

Zein's POV

I stopped thinking about anything because I might go crazy. I forced myself to listen to what our teacher was saying.

Later, I noticed that the aura in our classroom had changed. Everyone seemed tense, staring at the wall clock above the whiteboard. Our teacher couldn't teach properly either.

"Six o'clock," Mia whispered.

I looked at her. She was also staring at the clock. Our class ended at 6:30 pm, so we still had 30 minutes before going home to the dorm for Bloody Night. When I looked outside, it was already dark. What else would happen later? Will more blood be shed? Who else would be affected by the incident?

"I'm just going to the bathroom," I said.

Vanessa and Mia gave me a death glare.

"You dumbass! You know it's dangerous outside. Yet you're thinking about your bladder," Mia said.

"Do you want to die, Zein? Just tell me, I'll stab you myself," Vanessa joked.

I rolled my eyes at her and held my stomach. I had been holding it for a while, and it started to hurt. There was no bathroom inside the classroom.

"I'll come with you, Zein. Let's go?" Matt held out his hand, which I immediately took.

"Oh my! You know what, whatever," Vanessa said.

"Be careful," Dave reminded.

I just nodded, even though I was confused. Matt held my hand tightly as we left the classroom. A few lights were already on, illuminating our path.

"Hey Matt, do you think we'll be able to get out of here alive?" I asked.

"Sshh… don't talk like that. We will get out of here, okay?"

When we reached the bathroom, Matt let go of my hand. I went in while Matt watched outside.

The silence inside the bathroom was eerie. It felt like something was going to happen. I quickly went into the cubicle and hurriedly did my thing. After washing my hands, I ran out, but Matt wasn't outside. My knees started to tremble as I looked around. Then, I heard some rustling.

"M-Matt?" I called his name. I covered my mouth when I saw the masked people in the distance. There's a lot of them. I walked slowly and quietly away from there.

I was about to cry when Matt appeared in the darkness. He was sweating profusely, and he held my hand tightly. He pulled me away from there.

"Matt, where were you?" I asked.

He didn't answer. He just looked around.

"Matt, this is not the way," I whispered. Our route was getting farther from the classroom.

"It's 6:40, Zein. Everyone is back in the dormitory, and they're scattered throughout HU. We need to avoid them."

I wanted to ask him who he was referring to, but I was afraid to ask. We walked quickly but quietly, hiding in the dark so they wouldn't see us. What Matt said was true: The people wearing black masks were scattered throughout HU.

"We're safe until the bell rings—"

Time seemed to stop when we heard the bell ring. I froze. It's Bloody Night!

Matt cursed repeatedly, and his grip on my hand tightened.

"'Don't let go of my hand, Zein. I'll take care of you."

Somehow, the nervousness in my chest eased because of Matt's words.

Matt pulled me behind a large trash can to hide. A group of masked men were approaching us, holding knives.

They stopped not far from where we were hiding so I could see their faces. Only half of their faces were covered by masks, and they had necklaces with nails hanging from their fringes.

They were members of the Black Blood Gang!

They looked around as if they were looking for someone. I looked at Matt when he squeezed my hand. His worry was evident. I smiled at him shyly to silently convey that I was okay.

Soon, the masked men ran off in another direction.

Matt and I stood up when we were sure they were far from our path. Matt pulled me, but I removed my hand from his grip. He frowned.

"Go ahead, Matt. I just want to know something," I said, walking towards the masked men.

I hadn't gotten far when someone grabbed my arm.

"You'll be in trouble if they see you. Do you want to be like Rouge Silvenia? Or worse, Zein? Come back to the dorm with me. Please," Matt said worriedly.

I felt guilty. Matt wouldn't have been in this situation if he didn't hadn't come with me after I had made him worried due to my stubbornness.

"Sorry," I said softly.

He ruffled my hair before grabbing my hand. "We need to get back. It's more dangerous when the night falls," he said before pulling me away from that place.

I felt someone watching us as we ran.

"If you're just looking for information, Zein, I'm ready to tell you everything I know. So I hope you don't repeat what you did earlier."

My forehead furrowed. Why does Matt seem to know so much? Where and how did he find out? Did someone tell him?

"Ahhh!" Matt fell to the ground.

"Matt!" I stopped and knelt before him to find out what happened to him. My eyes widened when I saw blood flowing down his leg, a nail stuck in it.

"Matt, can you still walk?" I asked worriedly.

I heard footsteps approaching us. I was even more afraid for Matt and me.

"My leg is going numb. I can't walk anymore. Run, Zein! Save yourself!" Matt said while holding his leg.

"I won't leave you here, Matt! This is my fault!" my tears flowed.

"Zein, please! Run! You'll also end up in danger!"

I shook my head and wiped away my tears. I checked Matt's wound. There's only one nail stuck in his leg, but why did it have such an effect?

I held Matt's hand tightly when I saw the masked men approaching us.

"Zein, run away!"

I felt like I'd gone deaf. I couldn't feel anything and think straight. All I knew was that I would never leave Matt.

The masked men stopped when someone blocked them. A man with a red mask that covers his whole face.

Fear could be seen in the black-masked people as if they saw the Grim Reaper when the man with the red mask arrived.

"One… two…"

The black masks quickly ran away, not letting the man count to three.

The three of us were left in the dark part of the HU. His presence was so heavy. Who was he? Why were those men afraid of him? What was wrong with this man?

He turned to us, and I almost backed away when I saw his one red eye. That was all that could be seen from the mask he was wearing. He approached us and carried Matt on his back, who had lost consciousness. I stood up and followed him. I couldn't speak because my tongue seemed to be retracting in fear.

I walked very gently, as if it were very safe on Thursday, even though it was Bloody Night.

I felt like I was in a daze until I noticed we were already in front of the dormitory. The man with the red mask gently lowered Matt and leaned him against the door.

"Bleed his wound, rinse with warm water until the poison is gone."

I nodded. I heard Matt groan, so I looked at him and immediately approached him. He needed to be treated immediately.

Suddenly, the door to the dorm opened. When I looked up, Jerome and Dave quickly approached us. They promptly picked Matt up and brought him into the dorm. When I looked for the man with the red mask, he was gone.

"Come in here, Zein," Dave said.

I entered quietly and quickly locked the door. Vanessa and Mia approached me and bombarded me with questions I couldn't answer because I had yet to recover from what had happened.

Even though I was in a daze, I told my friends what to do about Matt's wound. But I couldn't stop thinking about the face of the man in the red mask.

Who was he?

The doctor had just left the dorm. He checked Matt's condition and gave him a poison and anti-tetanus vaccine. We had been monitoring Matt's condition all night, so we were almost out of it. When Bloody Night was over, Jerome and Dave immediately went to the HU clinic to call the doctor.

"It wasn't just a nail used on Matt," said Doc. "It's true that there was poison in that. It's a good thing our medicine cabinet is complete for first aid, and someone helped you," said Jerome.

We are very grateful to the man in the red mask. I'm sure he's not a member of the Black Blood Gang that almost killed us.

"Lesson learned, Zein. It's better to hold back your urine than to have to pay for it with your life," Vanessa preached.

"Sorry," I said, lowering my head.

"Well then, we'll go first, or we'll be late. Are you sure you're not coming?" Mia asked.

"I'll just watch Matt. After all, it's my fault he got hurt."

"Okay then. There's food on the table," Dave said.

I nodded and led them to the door. When they left, I closed the door. I sighed as I remembered the man in the red mask. I couldn't get him out of my mind. Shaking my head, I returned to Matt's room and approached him. He still had a fever, but it wasn't as bad as last night.

"I'm Sorry, Matt. You wouldn't have been hurt if you hadn't come with me and if I hadn't insisted on following the men in the black masks."

Curiosity almost got the better of us, but I just wanted to confirm my suspicion.

"Z-Zein?"

"Matt, are you feeling okay? Are you hungry?" he was about to sit up, so I quickly helped him. He was still weak.

"Are you hungry?" I asked again. Matt nodded.

"Can you stand up or bring you some food here?"

"Let's eat at the dining table so you don't have to suffer," Matt replied.

"It's okay, Matt. It's my fault you got hurt."

"Don't blame yourself, Zein?"

We fell silent. I felt really guilty about what happened to Matt. Suddenly, Matt's stomach growled. We looked at each other and laughed together.

"Ah… Zein, can I get you some help with the dining area? I'm really hungry, eh," Matt said with a grin.

I smiled at him. "Sure, you're stronger than me, eh." I helped Matt stand up and led him to the dining area.

When we got to the dining area, I sat him down on a chair and cared for him. We ate silently when Matt grabbed three red chili peppers and quickly ate them.

"Matt!" I said worriedly.

His face turned red, and he coughed and coughed. He almost threw up when he swallowed the chili.

"Why did you eat the chili?! Have you gone mad?" I asked, and then I handed him some water.

He laughed but suddenly became speechless, so he reached for the glass and pitcher of water and drank water one after the other. I just watched him laugh. After a while, he let out a loud burp. I hit him on the arm. He thinks like he's a dragon.

"It kills the remaining poison in my body. How spicy!" he joked, making me laugh out loud.

The medicine the doctor gave Matt was effective. He gradually got stronger and seemed to have regained his strength, so I agreed to accompany him to a nearby park. We sat on the swing and quietly observed the surroundings.

I remembered the man who first threatened me. He was wearing a black mask. Could he also be part of the Black Blood Gang?

"Zein, thank you," Matt said, catching my attention.

I looked at him. Matt was bowing. "Thank you for not leaving me. I'm sorry if you almost got hurt because of me."

"That's not it. I'm the one who should be apologizing to you because you almost died because of my stubbornness."

I stopped swinging and met his gaze.

"A red mask. He's one of the Devil God Warriors," Matt added,

So, that means a black mask is for the Black Blood Gang, and a red mask is for the Devil God Warrior. But why did a Devil God Warrior save us?

"He's not an ordinary member. Based on the fear and quick departure from the Black Blood Gang, that man could be Raze Silvenia."

I listened silently. Raze Silvenia? Is he the leader of the Devil God Warrior? There was something different about that man that I couldn't explain.

"But why did he save us?" Matt asked.

That's what I was thinking. Is he planning something? Them?

"While we were running last night, I felt someone watching us, Matt," I whispered,

He frowned. "Maybe the BBG is waiting for us to fall into a trap," Matt replied.

I shook my head and then looked away. It couldn't be the BBG because if it was them, they would have killed us right away.

"Is it possible that the Devil God Warrior is watching us?" I asked.

"It's possible. If Raze was the one who saved us, his team might be there too."

The bell rang, signaling break time. The students filed out. They looked like ordinary students, but we knew they were also full of fear.

"Come on, let's go back to the dorm. You might get more offense if you don't go to class." Matt held out his hand, and I took it with a smile.

"Are you sure you're good?"

"Yes."

We were walking back to the dorm when we bumped into a woman who was in a hurry. Her books had fallen, so we helped her up.

"Thank-" she stopped speaking when she saw us,

She backed away as if she was scared. "P-please don't…" she ran away from us.

Matt and I looked at each other and shrugged. Weird.
