Chapter 116: Chapter 24: The World Serpent
"Esmirille, that must be the goblin tribe up ahead, right? How many goblins are there, and what types are they?"
Liliya, perched on a tree, gazed down at the primitive goblin tribe below and asked the elf girl.
The elf girl, Esmirille Yaha, was an elven archer with exceptional talent, such as perfect accuracy and the ability to shoot through leaves from a hundred paces.
Her role overlapped with Platinum in the team, as both were archers.
"There are about seven or eight hundred goblin warriors. Of the bunch, dozens are goblin knights and more than a few are mage goblins. There are even some large goblins.
As a tribe, there might also be a goblin hero."
At this point, Esmirille had already changed out of her dilapidated clothes into a spare set brought by Cellinia.
To everyone's surprise, the clothes fit her perfectly.
"So we're talking hundreds of them... Here's the plan: Lilya and I will go in and clean them up. You guys focus on any escapees trying to slink away—don't let them through!
Savage and Cellinia, you protect Skyfire and Esmirille."
A strategy?
Against overwhelming force? There's no need for strategy. Just charge in!
I, Rozaliya, am a force to be reckoned with!
"Rozaliya, there are traps ahead, along with trolls. We...um..." Esmirille began to speak with genuine concern, only to be cut off abruptly.
"When we're faced with absolute power, nothing else matters. All you have to do is trust me; before us lies no adversity!"
Interrupting Esmirille's words, Rozaliya and Liliya jumped simultaneously, appearing a hundred yards away in an instant.
The twins, now in close proximity to the goblin clan, completely ignored any potential traps.
Two giant cannons appeared in the hands of the twin sisters. Liliya wielded the Hand of Tyr, while Rozaliya shouldered the Hundred-Handed Cannon, both of which locked onto the center of the goblin camp.
"Boom!"
Two shots fired with full power, striking directly at the heart of the goblin camp. The creatures, who had been joyously sorting their new loot, were sent flying as countless tents exploded into the sky.
"Liliya, it's now!"
"Understood! Rozaliya."
The two simultaneously retracted their giant cannons. Liliya grabbed Rozaliya, then hurled her towards the heart of the goblin clan.
Liliya herself also crouched down, then leapt high into the air.
As Rozaliya transformed into a human missile, smashing into one of the tents, Liliya locked onto a troll and descended upon it.
Rozaliya's impact instantly killed a giant troll, while at the same time decimating seven or eight nearby goblins in the blast.
Liliya, on the other hand, used the momentum of her descent to cleave the troll beneath her in two with her great sword.
"Typhoon! Yaaaaay!"
As she eyed the goblins in the tribe, panicked by the sudden onslaught from just two of them, Rozaliya quickly drew her great sword and began slaughtering the goblins before her as if she was cutting down weeds.
In less than a minute, swathes of nearby goblins had collapsed in heaps.
"Piece of cake!" Rozaliya stopped spinning, securing her sword and tail with her right hand around Sleeping Beauty's hilt before she leapt onto the corpse of a giant troll several meters tall and glanced over at Liliya.
Liliya, meanwhile, had completely entered a state of killing frenzy—her blade flashing as she moved with deadly precision across the battlefield like a true master assassin!
Faced with two humanoid beasts slaughtering without mercy, the goblins—who preferred to prey on those weaker than themselves but now found themselves truly threatened—began to flee in terror.
Rozaliya and Liliya watched these fleeing goblins without pursuing them; they knew others beyond awaited their escape.
-
"Ooh, what a fat goblin!" She suddenly spots a grotesquely plump goblin—surely this must be the so-called "Great Goblin"!
Rozaliya teleports in a flash, appearing right next to it and raising her great sword to strike.
But then...
"Please... I-I beg you, spare me! I'll serve you for life." The Great Goblin kneels before Rozaliya without hesitation, its voice trembling with fear.
"Huh? You can actually talk!" Rozaliya pauses, astonished. None of the previous goblins could speak; she had assumed that goblins in this world were mute.
"You're right," the Great Goblin hastily replies, "I-I've learned the common language of the realm."
"Is that so... Then..."
Just as Rozaliya begins to ask further questions, the Great Goblin notices her lowered sword. An insolent smile wreathes its face as it reaches for a slender black bamboo arrow, aiming for Rozaliya's heart.
"You idiot, Rozaliya!" Just as the elder's strike was upon them, Liliya swiftly leapt to Rozaliya's side and severed his head with a single blow.
The elder crumpled to the ground, clutching the black bamboo arrow in his hand.
"Despite knowing full well that this world's goblins are vicious, treacherous demons, you still let your guard down." Lili, holding her sky-blue great sword, gazed at Rosa with cool composure.
"Well... it's just some goblin, right? As if I could be harmed by such a creature? And who's the real idiot here? You, Liliya! Idiot, idiot, idiot!" Rozaliya shrugged off the incident, firing back at Liliya like a petulant child.
"Indeed, without Liliya by your side, you'd be dead in a day, you dim-witted Rosa," Liliya shook her head as if resigned. She picked up the black bamboo arrow from the Elders hand, "This dart carries a clear-cut toxic brew. One moment of carelessness, and you'd be sunk without a trace."
As Liliya spoke, she thrust the black bamboo arrow into her elder brother Grom's body. Then, as if by sorcery, his corpse began to corrode at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"..."
"We're beings fused with Emperor rank Honkai Beasts," Rozaliya said, her gaze fixed on the deteriorating body. "This poison probably won't affect us much, right...?" She couldn't help but swallow hard, fear and lack of confidence evident in her voice.
Rozaliya and Liliya were different from Theresa. While Theresa possessed the genes of an Emperor rank Honkai Beast, Rozaliya and Liliya actually harbored one such beast within their bodies.
This fusion was the result of Cocolia's work, using the technological prowess of the World Serpent—an organization in the Honkai world akin to Schicksal and Anti-Entropy. They aimed to combine Rozaliya and Liliya with Honkai Beasts.
The World Serpent differed from Schicksal and Anti-Entropy. They believed in the peaceful coexistence of Honkai and human civilization, advocating for the literal fusion of Honkai and humans.
The World Serpent held the view that Honkai arose alongside human civilization. They saw battling Honkai as akin to fighting against the nature of the world—pure folly. Their conviction was that enduring alongside Honkai was the only means for civilization to survive.
Numerous experiments had undoubtedly been conducted on fusing Honkai Beasts with humans.
And Cocolia herself had a relationship with the World Serpent that was anything but ordinary.
