Chapter 14: Chapter 14
"So, why a school?" Alastor asked, his curiosity piqued.
Rias tilted her head, not entirely sure what he meant. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, why did you choose a school as your territory? You could've taken over a government building or a market district. Why a school?" Alastor clarified, genuinely curious about her decision.
Alastor had always wondered why Rias and Sona opted to come to this particular human school instead of attending a school in the Underworld. After all, there were plenty of schools down there, and most young devils were educated in their realm.
"A high school has the best candidates for becoming devils," Rias explained. "At this age, their potential is at its peak. If they're too old, their potential diminishes, and their mindset becomes too rigid. If they're too young, they don't fully grasp the responsibilities and consequences. High school students are at the perfect age. That's why Sona's Peerage is almost complete, even though she hasn't even started participating in Rating Games yet."
"Huh, I see..." Alastor nodded, understanding her logic. "Also, more importantly, this school is situated above a leyline that amplifies the energy of the area," Rias continued. "We've set up a discreet magic circle that channels the leyline's natural energy into our clubrooms, giving us an advantage."
"That's interesting..." he muttered.
"It's not entirely new," Rias added. "The previous manager of this territory also operated from here. Although back then, this was an all-girls school."
"Cool," Alastor said, though he didn't push for more details about the previous manager. He knew enough about what had happened and didn't want to stir up any unnecessary trouble.
As they walked, Rias pointed out his room. "You should get ready."
Alastor smirked as Rias began to walk away. "Don't forget my body pillow for the night," he called out, his voice laced with teasing. "Either you or Akeno would be fine. Anyone else, and things might not be as peaceful."
Rias stopped in her tracks, her cheeks flushing a light pink as she turned around. "You should stop teasing me," she said, trying to sound firm, but the blush betrayed her flustered state.
"Why?" Alastor replied, his smirk widening. "I only said what's true. And I really do need a body pillow to sleep. It would be nice if it's you." His tone was playful, his words meant to fluster rather than to be taken seriously.
Of course, Alastor was only joking. He wasn't serious about it. Yes, he might have been more comfortable with someone to hold during sleep, but he knew this wasn't his home, and Rias wasn't Serafall or Sona, with whom he shared a long history and deep bond. Last night had been an accident, a mix-up that he didn't intend to repeat, and he was mindful of the boundaries between him and Rias.
He chuckled internally, knowing that his comment was just a way to lighten the mood. But what Alastor didn't realize was that Rias was taking his words more seriously than he had intended.
For her, Alastor is someone, who she idealizes because Alastor did what he loved to do whether it was right or wrong. And because he has the strength and is a high-class noble most of his actions are ignored. But even with that leverage, he can be considered the most gentlemanly devil Rias has seen outside the Rating game.
Of course, In Rating Game, he is far from being gentlemanly, he is literally a monster in devil skin in the arena. He didn't even go easy even if his opponent is female.
Hearing Alastor teasing her, Rias didn't back down as she said.
"Then how about I send Kiba..."
"Send him, and I'll wipe him off the face of the Earth," Alastor replied, his tone serious. "You'll be left with an empty knight spot."
Rias chuckled, knowing he wasn't entirely joking. "Fine, fine. No Kiba. I'll see what I can do."
Rias turned away, trying to compose herself as she continued walking down the hallway. Her thoughts were swirling with confusion and something else she wasn't quite ready to name. Alastor's teasing, his casual remarks, and the way he seemed so comfortable around her were new experiences. She wasn't used to someone being so straightforward, so... comfortable with her.
Rias knew that Alastor was different. He wasn't like the other devils she had met. His power, his confidence, and the way he treated her with a mix of respect and playful teasing all set him apart. He was a mystery, and that intrigued her. But his comments about needing her as a body pillow....
"Since he asked me, I should go after all he is training me and even told me that he would teach me his signature move. So sleeping with him is no problem for me. And I already slept with him once."
Rias said to herself.
"Should I ask Sona what his favourite food is or something, just in case? Or is it weird since its only been a day since he came here."
