Chapter 7: Chapter 6 - Azazel
Hiyama's house, Kuoh town –
POV: Shiori –
What is going on? Hiyama was fighting a man downstairs. I tried to look downstairs, but my body wouldn't let me leave the confines of the second level.
When Hiyama went outside, I rushed to one of the windows to see out in the front yard. He was speaking to two monstrous demon-like creatures with black wings. I prayed to God over and over to wake up from this horrible nightmare, but no matter what I said nothing happened.
After a while I hear footsteps walking up the stairs, hearing my brother's voice "Shiori!" I ran out of the room and raced to him. Jumping in his arms as I cried, he whispered, "It is okay sis, I promise we're safe."
Carrying me into his room he sat with me on his bed, "What is going on, Hiyama?" I asked through cracked sobs.
Responding in a calm comforting voice Hiyama said, "I know this may be hard to believe, but everything you've heard about supernatural's, and myth is real. Angels, Devils, Yokai, even the gods from myth. They are all real. That man and the two women outside are fallen angels, they are very bad people. At least bad to us. You see the night before last I got into a fight with one of them. A fourth one named Mittelt, I imprisoned her in a room in the basement because I had nowhere else to put her after I couldn't bring myself to kill her."
Giving me a second to process the information before he continued, "I'm sorry Shiori for not telling you and for putting you in danger. I only became aware of this aspect of our world a three days ago."
Feeling a bit calmer now that I knew what was happening, I trusted my brother. The supernatural stuff was obviously true seeing as I saw the women out front. What I really wanted to know is what was going on with him.
"So how did you beat them if you only just became aware they existed?" I asked quietly.
He began to explain still in a calming tone, "I have something called a sacred gear. It is a powerful artifact attached to my soul, made by God. There are many humans who have them, many of the heroes of legend likely had them just like me. Mine is called Logos Reverie; it allows me to bend reality with my words. You may have noticed me being more muscular suddenly? That is something I did with my sacred gear."
Now that she thinks about it, she had noticed her brother had gotten larger since yesterday. She had presumed that she just never noticed before. I mean how else could she explain his sudden growth?
Feeling myself understand the situation I say, "So what happens now?"
A grim expression took over his face, "I must negotiate with their leader. I have asked for a meeting in hope that he can help me protect you and myself. Regardless of the nature of the fallen, they are our best option for safety right now. It may be confusing to how I know all this so soon, but it's my sacred gear giving me information. Unless heaven is going to descend on the Earth right now, it is the only thing that I know to do." I wallow in a sense of helplessness. We must make a deal with the fallen angels.
He continued, "The Grigori works with humans already, so it won't be unusual for me to work as a contractor to help them. In exchange we will get their protection until I can figure something else out. Is that okay with you?" He is giving me the illusion of a choice. He knows as well that with the information he just gave me, we have no other options.
"What can I do?" I ask.
"Nothing for now. I do have intentions to find a way for you to defend yourself, but I can't do that while focusing on the fallen at the same time." He attempted to give me a reassuring smile, but I knew it was hollow. I know when my brother is winging it. Right now, he has no plan whatsoever, and I am helpless to effect anything.
So, I nod in acceptance…

POV: Hiyama –
It has been two days since the encounter with the fallen. I waited for a response from Azazel, but none came. Perhaps he didn't think I was significant enough to pay attention to, or maybe the compulsion hadn't worked on Raynare and Kalawarner. Regardless, Mittelt was still in the basement.
I introduced Shiori to Mittelt and explained a bit more about the supernatural world. Including about all the devil's in Kuoh and their identity. Shiori was taken back a bit by Akeno, the girl she most admired was a Devil/fallen hybrid, but she eventually accepted it. There was no point hiding anything as it would only be more dangerous for Shiori who I genuinely did care for.
Her Catholic sensibilities made her immediately dislike working with the fallen or devils. She would much prefer to interact with Heaven, but there was no way we could do so right now.
Now that we both knew about the supernatural world, we brainstormed how to confront Azael if he did come. We ultimately decided on immediately releasing Mittelt as a sign of good faith, then after that we both were to offer our services to Azazel.
I imagined he would be more interested in me, but Shiori insisted we do it together.
It is Saturday and on Monday we begin school again, I hope Azazel will be here before then, I would prefer to know where I stand with him before I encounter the Devils of Kuoh. If things go poorly, but he hasn't killed us then I may be able to leverage his name to get protection from the Sis-con Satan's siblings of Rias and Sona.
Just as the day ended with me and Shiori preparing for bed, I heard movement downstairs. Immediately I rushed downstairs only to find Raynare, Kalawarner, and Mittelt standing dutifully behind the couch.
Though they weren't exactly important, rather the person sitting on the couch helping himself to the wine I created and stored under my bed.
Feeling a presence to my side I see Shiori standing slightly behind me looking starstruck.
Azazel didn't address us, and neither did we move in turn. We stood there for a few minutes in complete silence as he drank my wine. He was clearly establishing dominance before any negotiations could begin.
I almost feared that he would kill us, but he spoke up "Sit down kids, you're making me nervous." Immediately we sat on the couch opposite him. "You are rather brave to demand an audience from me."
He paused for a moment, but neither I nor Shiori were stupid enough to speak out of turn.
Seemingly satisfied with the extra time he had to drink. He began to speak again, "But when I notice that Raynare and Kalawarner hear seemed to be compelled you caught my attention. Even more so when it seemed a trace of holy element was the culprit of mind control. It wasn't hard to dispel, you clearly are rather new to your sacred gear."
I felt uncomfortable being read like a book but remained silent regardless.
"So, what do you want?" Azazel finally asked.
"Protection and training" I responded.
"Well duh…" He mocked. "I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the future, what do you plan on achieving if everything goes your way in the end?"
"I haven't given it much thought I suppose. I guess for now it is simply ensuring that me and my sister not only survive but thrive. Learning about and mastering my sacred gear would probably help too" I responded a bit perplexed. I never really thought about my goals in all this. I was just focused on surviving through the first week of my transmigration.
Seemingly satisfied with my answer for now he said, "These are all things I can help with. Though, they won't come for free…"
"I understand my lord-" I tried to get out.
"My lord?" Azazel laughed. "You are way too tense kid, loosen up. If I was going to kill you I would have already."
Shiori spoke up, "We will provide our services to the Grigori in exchange for protection from hostile factions. I know my brother's sacred gear will interest you, so by helping us you will get to see my brother's sacred gear grow."
Azazel looking a bit amused at the Shiori's bravery said, "Alright. Here is what I'll do, you both will become private contractors to the Grigori for now. I will periodically assign tasks; you will complete them and then be rewarded with what I deem."
Turning towards me he says, "I will also give advice and knowledge as it relates to your sacred gear. I am interested to see what the wielder of Logos Reverie. As for you Shiori, I have a sneaking suspicion you have a talent of your own." As he continues to drink.
Thinking we were done I moved to thank him, but he had other plans. "I'm not done. I haven't addressed the most important matter." I figured this was coming.
"How I know about Kokabiel?" I assumed
"Yes" he answered.
"When I initially awakened my sacred gear, I had a ton of knowledge implanted in my head. Mostly basics of the supernatural world, but I learned a bunch about what was going on in my immediate surroundings. Including the mission you sent those three plus Dohnaseek on, I also learned about Kokabiel being involved somehow against your consent. Everything else I managed to squeeze out the exact intentions from Mittelt with the help of Logos Reverie, or I just used logical conclusions." I explained. Of course it was a partial lie, but Azazel didn't know that.
"Well Kokabiel will be dealt with eventually. He seems to have caught wind of his immenent demise and fled." Azazel clearly wasn't worried, but me and Shiori clearly were.
"As for these three little traitors…" The moment Azazel mentioned the three fallen women they jumped to attention. "They have defied me, and I don't much care to let them live. However, I have made a deal with them. If they wanted to live then they needed to do so as your personal servants, if you would have them. Of course, if you want them dead, I can just kill them now." He says in a nonchalant attitude.
Feeling a bit horrified at how casually Azazel mentioned killing his subordinates I stood up, "You don't have to kill them, I'll take them into my household. I'll just have to figure out how to fit them." The fallen trio looked at me with immense gratefulness, but I didn't notice as I was focused on Azazel.
Azazel seemingly pleased with my answer said, "Don't worry about having no space. I have a mansion prepared for you can move in tomorrow. There is a nice one that went up for sale a few months ago on the outskirts of Kuoh. So, I bought it yesterday."
Shiori at this point couldn't stay quiet, "What?!" she yelled in amazement.
"Well, I can't very well have you living like regular people, now, can I?" He said with a smile. "Besides it's not that difficult to arrange when you have magic. I'll of course make some modifications to ensure it is magically protected. Rias Gremory nor Sona pays enough attention to their territory to notice anyway, seeing as you got into two fights and they didn't even react."
With a note of finality Azazel said one last thing, "I will have these three meet you at the mansion to be your new servants, and I'll come by tomorrow to help you move. Also, don't worry about your parents I've used mind magic so they won't be questioning you new living arrangements. I also want you somewhat removed from the center of Kuoh, I'd prefer to provoke the devils as little as possible." With that he and the three fallen teleported away.
I didn't know how to feel about how casually he mentioned mind controlling my parents, but there wasn't anything I could do so I let it go.
"He was definitely buttering you up, wasn't he?" Shiori said.
"Yup, he clearly knows more about my potential than I do. The mansion, car, and servants is just him getting on our good side." I responded with exasperation.
"Well, it's working…" Shiori said before heading upstairs to go to sleep, while I follow to do the same.
So much for not liking the fallen I guess…
