Chapter 9: Chapter 8 - Truce?
Kuoh Academy –
POV: Souna Shitori –
"Everything is so hectic as usual." Tsubaki said. Of course, she is acknowledging the work more than complaining about it. She wasn't wrong with the beginning of the school year, there was an abundance of paperwork and students that needed handling.
However, right now we stand at the front gate to greet all the new students. Mostly it was familiar faces, orientation for new students already happened, so most of the first-year students had already gotten to class.
As students passed by me, they greeted me I noticed a black SUV pulled up to the front gate and stopped. It wasn't uncommon for people to have drivers; this was a prominent school that required tuition to attend. Most families that sent their children to Kuoh were at least somewhat well-off, but the people who stepped out of it were a surprise.
From what I remember it was Shiori and Hiyama Oreki. Both were exceptional students in the same class as me, known simply as the Oreki twins despite not actually being twins. They had wealthy parents, but they didn't have a driver or a car. I had even considered asking Shiori to become one my knight, due to her talent with a blade.
After they gathered their bags, I noticed Hiyama was larger than usual and Shiori had what appeared to be a massive sword on her back. The sword gave me a bad feeling, but she was a member of the Kendo club, so she probably had it for club activities. They began to walk in my direction towards the gate. When they got close, I stopped them "You two are Hiyama and Shiori Oreki, correct?"
Hiyama responded with a neutral tone, "Yeah, that's us"
I step closer to scrutinize him further. In that moment, the rest of the world faded away as I sensed it. The overwhelming Holy Element in them was beyond anything I had felt before.
I stared at him flabbergasted at his power when he spoke, "Is everything alright, class president?" He knows, I can see it in his eyes. He knows that I know….
When did this happen? How did he get so strong from last time I saw him? What about his body? He was far more muscular than he was before. And Shiori, now that I'm closer I can sense the holy power from her sword.
I compose myself and ask, "May we speak after school?"
Smiling a handsomely he said, "Sure, Ms. Sitri."
The moment he said my real name Tsubaki almost attacked him, but I ordered her back. Shiori seemed like she was about to jump in too. It may not be necessary to fight, after all it's not like they are strangers.
Seeing no further reason to continue the confrontation I say, "Then I will see you in class." He then gave me another incredibly handsome smile before walking away.
I immediately ordered Tsubaki to send word to the rest of the peerage member and Rias about what just transpired.
------------------------------------------------
POV: Hiyama Oreki –
School went as I expected it too, despite the confrontation between me and Sona no one approached me. When she got to class with Tsubaki I noticed her staring at me, but I ignored it. I also got mobbed plenty by the girls of Kuoh, with my newfound musculature I'm sure I looked akin to a god by their standards. Rumor had already begun to spread that I finally surpassed the looks of the almighty Kiba.
When the school day ended, Shiori and I meandered our way over to the student council room where Sona was no doubt waiting. We made sure to wait enough time for students to leave school, you never know what might happen if a fight breaks out. Shiori made sure to have Clarent on her all day long, I thought the staff might bring issue with it, but they surprisingly didn't say a word. I guess Sona had something to do with that.
Knocking on the door, we were answered quickly by Akeno of all the people. I suppose Rias couldn't keep her curiosity in check.
Walking in, as I expected Rias sat on the side of the desk with Sona sitting in the desk chair. Akeno and Tsubaki had placed themselves on the side of the room. No one else was there, but it didn't matter cause their peerages were likely no more than a minute away.
Sona smiled seeing me enter, "Welcome Hiyama, Shiori. Please sit down." She gestured towards the two chairs in front of the desk.
I turn my head to look at Akeno and Tsubaki, "Nah, I'd prefer to stand."
Rias spoke this time, "We mean you no harm-" Before Shiori cut her off.
"You couldn't harm us regardless." A very untrue statement, but I had noticed since touching that sword she had become arrogant.
Seeking to deescalate, but still establish that we aren't pushovers I say, "What she means is that we have very powerful friends. In the form of the Governor-General of the fallen. If you attempt to harm me or my sister, you would not only find it more difficult than you think but also will have started another Great War."
Rias immediately went on guard, which made sense considering the personal vendetta's Akeno and Kiba have against fallen. Sona, however, spoke up before Rias could, "We genuinely mean no harm I assure you, but you must also understand this is our territory. We must protect it."
Shiori again spoke up, "It's human territory, you're just squatting on it." At that I almost laughed but recovered quickly to give Shiori a look that demanded silence.
Now that she had been silenced, I started speaking again, "We don't mean you any harm either. Despite my sister's justified disdain for devils, I would not seek to start unnecessary conflict. A few days ago, I was attacked by four fallen angels after I awakened my sacred gear. After I defeated them, I made a deal with their commander to provide protection for me and my sister in exchange for me acting as a contractor for them." I let them taken in the information before continuing.
"We have three of those fallen in our servitude now, the other is dead; those three are all we have currently with us. That is about it in terms of us, so now that you all know the situation it's fair to call a truce." I refrained from telling them that Azazel might show up, Sona may be more compelled to say something to Sirzechs, even if she wouldn't say anything to Serafall. Sona nodded at the idea of a truce, but not Rias.
Rias seemingly in competition with Sona to speak said, "I insist on knowing your reason for being here."
"I live here…" I said it with as much 'duh' in it as I possible could. At that I could almost see the faint smile on Sona's face at doing better during the conversation.
In a surprising turn of events, the door busted open. I wasn't particularly worried, because whoever it was about to get their head cut off by Shiori. She moved faster than I had ever seen before, it must be the power of her holy sword flowing through her.
Yet, when the dust settled Shiori had not successfully cut anyone's head off. Instead, she had locked blades with Kiba who looked crazed. I know about his vendetta, but it shouldn't be this severe. Something is going on...
Rias screamed, "Kiba! What are you doing?"
Before anyone could react to that I was already gathering the Voice, "The arm of my enemy shall shatter." An invisible force wrapped around Kiba's right arm and shredded the whole thing. His sword grip immediately failed as Shiori pushed and cut into Kiba's shoulder.
The Holy power in the blade cut deep as a misty black substance shot out of the screaming Kiba. Seeing no further reason to continue beating him up I raised my hands in mock surrender
Everything happened so fast that none of the other four in the room could de-escalate in time, so I did for them. I turned towards the other devils who had finally decided to stop pointlessly shouting and said, "Well that escalated quickly." Akeno and Tsubaki looked two seconds away from going on the attack as I focused my attention on Rias.
Addressing Rias, "It appears your knight has already broken the truce that was just made, out of deference to the fact Lady Sitri did nothing wrong I will keep to our agreement. However, should your knight attack me or my sister again, I will kill him." She looked equally qorried about Kiba and worried about him attacking me.
And that was true, Kiba may be on par with my sister, but I was well above him. I have finally figured out with Azazel's help just how strong I was. Easily being in the middle of High class and likely quickly to reach the peak, I was likely around the strength of Rias or Sona individually. When fighting the fallen before I hadn't realized how much power I had.
Like running in a race when beginning you always think you're going the fastest you can, but you could actually go faster your body just doesn't realize it yet. It wouldn't be unreasonable to say I could one shot Kiba if I used a particularly viscous attack.
Saying that last part with the utmost seriousness I lower my hands and gesture to Shiori for us to leave.

POV: Rias Gremory –
The moment the Oreki twins left I ran over to Kiba to take care of him. After staving off the worst effects of the holy sword I sent him away with Akeno to rest.
Looking back at Sona she looked less than pleased, "I am sorry Sona. I didn't know Kiba would react like that."
"I understand that Kiba's background is sensitive when it comes to holy swords, but this was beyond dangerous. We don't know how powerful Hiyama or Shiori are." Sona berated me. "What would have happened if Hiyama didn't have such a calm head? He could have killed Kiba before we could intervene."
Feeling terribly about what happened, "I will make it up to you Sona- "
She quickly cut me off, "No… You need to make it up to Hiyama. We may not have much evidence, but I believed him when he said he was allies with the Grigori. We can't afford to become the epicenter of another Great War, especially knowing your brother's desire for peace."
I felt horrible, I had insisted on attending the meeting despite Sona saying she could handle it. She warned me about the holy sword, but I didn't take proper precautions to make sure Kiba didn't lose it when he found out.
Sona broke me out of my thoughts, "I know Hiyama and Shiori, I have had class with Shiori since we were first years, and Hiyama ever since boys could come to the school. Hiyama has always cared deeply for his sister. I believe he won't hesitate to hurt or even kill Kiba should he become a threat. Get him under control. Hiyama is kind, he was raised a good Catholic; by the fact he is willing to call a truce he clearly hasn't followed in the church's footsteps, but let's not give him reason too."
Taking in Sona's words I decide to say something that's been lingering at the back of my mind, "Did you hear how he sounded? He has a power that makes whatever he says come true. The sound of that voice was chilling…"
"Yeah, I did notice. That's why I think it's better to remain friendly with him for now. We don't know exactly what he can do. I've asked Tsubasa to follow him before he came, to see where he is living as his old house is empty." As expected, Sona had already thought everything through.
After that I say my goodbyes, to check on Kiba.

Occult Research Club, Kuoh Academy –
When I got back to the club building, I walked in to see Kiba on the couch bandaged and sweating. My heart lurched to see him in such pain. Quickly moving to his side, I noticed Akeno in the corner cleaning blood off her hands in a large bowl of water.
Akeno walked over and said, "He took a bad hit, I don't know why Kiba lost control. It's like he was possessed; I mean why even try to do it in front of us?" She looked puzzled and so was I, I knew all about Kiba's hate for holy swords, but it wasn't so severe that he would attack someone the moment they appeared in front of him. Maybe there is something special about that sword Shiori wielded.
Gently stroking Kiba's head, Koneko walks in with a worried look. She stood by silently fidgeting with her hands.
Having an no idea what to do next, "Akeno, this situation has damaged our potential relationship with the Oreki twins. We need to find a way to make it up to them. We have an opportunity to gain a powerful ally."
Hiyama is at least as strong as me, he destroyed Kiba's arm with a sentence. He seems as strong as me, but more than that it's his holy power. Normally, only incredibly powerful angels can make someone feel their holy power. With access to the power of God, it is an easy thing to punch above their weight when it comes to fighting devils. Considering Hiyama had more than I had ever seen anyone else have, it was fair to say he was dangerous.
"Maybe you can send me to speak with him." Akeno suggested.
I looked at her with Shock, "But they work with the Grigori, wouldn't you be uncomfortable?"
Akeno sighed, "It is better for us and Kiba if we establish a more positive relationship with Hiyama and Shiori. Maybe I can work something out. I'll admit I don't like the idea of associating with the fallen, but I will if it means Hiyama might show some mercy to Kiba when he inevitably gets up to go after Shiori again." She placed a cold towel on Kiba's head before continuing.
"Besides, if you were to go, he may be more hostile considering you are Kiba's master." As much as I hate to admit it, Akeno was right about Kiba probably going to take another shot at Shiori. If he was willing to attack her in front of us, then there is no chance he won't try again. He'll probably be out for quite some time, I'm not skilled enough in healing magic to fix a holy swords poison.
Having made a decision, "Alright, I'll get a flyer to Hiyama." I didn't like the idea of sending Akeno alone, but her previous concerns about me going were right. I trust her to figure this out, besides it's not like I will be too far away.
