His only Cure

Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Knowing she had some work to do, she grabbed some takeout from a nearby restaurant and headed home. She sat with documents until late at night, absorbing information and submitting her conclusions. Tiredness started to take over, so Sophie decided to go to sleep.

She woke up ready for the meeting. She went to the company earlier and left information with the others about what was to be done today, not knowing when they would return. A few minutes before nine she went down to the reception and waited for her boss, who appeared a moment later with his assistant. They nodded silently "Good morning" and went to the car. Darell and Sophie sat in the back and Noah acted as their driver.

"What do you think about it?" He asked, holding a briefcase with documents.

"Something is wrong, but not everything is written down. You have to listen carefully to what they say at the meeting" She said honestly. The man nodded.

"I think so too. If you spot something I haven't noticed, let me know" He looked at her for a moment as she looked through the documents.

"I'll try" She looked at him with determination.

The three of them went to the meeting in a room where several people were already sitting. Sophie sat in the back with a pen and notebook, ready to get the rest of the information. To her unpleasant surprise, her father entered the room with Bethany. They didn't notice her at first because they were busy greeting the others.

The meeting finally started and Sophie focused all her attention on the presenter. Time passed quickly and the meeting was getting longer and longer. Finally, the questions for the presenter began. He answered each question efficiently with a slight smile. Darell asked himself a few times, sneaking glances at Sophie. Even Bethany tried to look professional by asking questions that, unfortunately, someone had already asked. The presenter had to repeat himself for her.

A short break was taken to give everyone time to think about whether they would invest or not. Bethany tried to talk to Darell but he walked past her without stopping. He and Sophie left the room and stood to the side, talking about something. Jealousy appeared in the woman's eyes.

Everything was taken away from her, but she was still doing well and had the most handsome man next to her. Bethany was a greedy woman. She wanted to have everything others had. Especially everything Sophie had. Seeing how she landed with the best possible party in the country, she decided to do something. However, the man didn't pay any attention to her, which pissed her off even more.

Sophie, not knowing about the woman's jealousy, informed her boss what else he should ask. The meeting started again. People asked the host a few more questions before they announced whether they wanted to participate. Sophie, weighing all the pros and cons, heard the answers to the questions asked by Darell. A red alert sounded in her head. She looked pointedly at Darell and slowly shook her head disapprovingly. The man nodded to her, sitting with his hands folded in front of him. The remaining participants began to agree to the investment.

"This investment sounds interesting. We agree too" Bethany said proudly, looking at Darell, hoping for his approval.

"I'll pass" He replied coldly, getting up from his chair and leaving with Sophie.

"Mr. Pilsar! Please wait!" Someone called after them as they got into the elevator. At the last moment, Bethany rushed in, panting heavily.

"Why did you decide to withdraw? It's a very promising investment" She asked charmingly, making innocent eyes at the man.

"Not worth my time" He said briefly, not wanting to talk to her any longer.

"Has Sophie convinced you that it's not worth it? This isn't the first time she made a bad decision, causing problems for our company. Please believe me, this cooperation will bring us big profits" She tried to slander the girl in the eyes of her boss.

Sophie completely ignored her slander and looked at the documents. When the elevator opened its doors, they stepped out with relief and went straight to their car. However, the stubborn Velcro wouldn't come off.

"Mr. Pilsar, maybe we can arrange a meeting together and talk about cooperation?" She didn't give up.

"I'm not interested" He grumbled as he got into the car. They drove away, leaving a furious Bethany to her own moods.

"Noel, we're going to eat something before we go back to the company" Darell announced, closing his eyes.

"Yes, boss"

Several minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant and ordered a meal. They ate in silence and returned to the office.

"Sophie with me" He ordered, seeing how the woman wanted to return to her section. She looked at him uncertainly but did not object. Together they entered the office, sitting at his desk.

"You were right. Their investment will not pay off" He threw the documents into the trash can. "We should find someone who will bring us big profits" He started typing something on his computer. "I am sending you information from several promising companies. Browse them and tell me what you think about them. Right now I have more important things on my mind and I can't take care of it" He looked at the girl who was watching him in silence. She saw the tiredness on his face. He probably didn't sleep last night because his mood was also bad. She walked up to him and grabbed his cheeks with her hands, looking into his pleasantly surprised eyes.

"Don't overwork yourself" She whispered gently. Darell wrapped his arms around her waist and snuggled against her stomach, sighing heavily.

"Umm... I have a lot of work. Go home and get some sleep. You know I'm counting on you" He looked at her gently, not wanting to be separated. Sophie wasn't willing to be touched, but now she came on her own. He slowly released her from his embrace and went back to work.

"See you tomorrow" Sophie said before she left his office.

Wanting to help him, she took her laptop with her, to which he sent her information about the companies. After returning to the apartment and eating dinner, she sat down at her laptop and got to work. Seeing the dark circles before her eyes, she knew she had had enough. She wrote down her last comments and put it on the table next to the bed. She fell asleep within a few seconds but... She woke up in the morning with a migraine.

"Oh nooo..."

Staying up two nights, she had to take into account the consequences. She struggled to get out of bed and got ready for work. They will definitely spend tonight together. Whether he wants it or not.

She took a migraine pill before leaving for the office, hoping that it might go away during the day. It was a hard day for both of them. Sophie had some important things to deal with today that suddenly came up. Darell didn't have it any better. After the third meeting, he had had enough. If anyone else tries to say anything to him today, heads will roll. He sat impatiently at his desk, waiting for everyone to go home so he could call Sophie. To his surprise, at five o'clock, the girl entered his office without knocking, took his hand and led him to his apartment.

"Go take a shower. I'll make something to eat" She pushed him lightly towards the bathroom. Darell did as he was told without any objections. Sophie managed to make a quick simple dinner. As she was putting the plates on the table, a man in shorts came out of the bathroom.

Oh well. That's some progress, shorts instead of a towel.

They sat down together and started eating.

"I'll admit right away that I stayed two nights and it might get bloody" She started timidly, picking at the plate. Hearing no response, she glanced at him, seeing him cover his face with his hand.

"Sophie" He uttered menacingly. "You were supposed to take care of yourself" He looked at her angrily.

"Yeah, you too, what do you look like?" She hit the ball back to him.

"I'm the owner. If I want to run it profitably, sometimes I have to make sacrifices" He said slowly and lowly.

"And I'm helping you with that. Sometimes it happens" She muttered, feeling a little guilty.

"Go take a bath" He sighed, not having the strength to argue with her. Tired, he lay down in bed, listening to the sounds of the bath. She finally came out and this time she was the one in just a towel. As fate would have it, she forgot to take his T-shirt before she went to take a bath. So now she had to deal with the piercing gaze of the man waiting for her in bed.

She put on the first T-shirt she could find and put the towel on the radiator. With flushed cheeks, she climbed into bed, trying not to look at Darell's pleased face.

"Such a lovely sight before the rest" He purred into her ear. "Did you take anything in case your nose bleeds?" He asked seriously this time. She pointed to a box of tissues and a towel on the cabinet.

"At least come closer. I want to fall asleep in peace" He spread his arms, waiting for Sophie to move closer to him.

"Just no surprises like last time" She threatened, leaning back against him.
