Chapter 29: Danzo’s Shock
Shimura Danzo's frustration was palpable as he sat in Hiruzen Sarutobi's office, addressing the Third Hokage with a tone that bordered on incredulity.
"Hiruzen, if the Kazekage dies, he dies. They've never been honest with us anyway," Danzo began dismissively. Then, his voice hardened, "But this Uchiha Yuma… what's going on here?! Can you tell me why he became Minato's disciple? Explain this to me!"
Danzo couldn't fathom the changes in Konoha during his absence. He had spent months stirring up trouble in the other great ninja villages and causing unrest in Amegakure. Upon returning, he was immediately confronted with shocking news. Namikaze Minato had successfully rescued the Daimyo of the River Country and his son. But the death of the Third Kazekage during the mission—that was troubling.
What truly unsettled Danzo, however, was the mention of Uchiha Yuma. This young Uchiha had faced the infamous Red Sand Scorpion, a ninja of Kage-level strength, and held his ground. Danzo's mind raced as he processed the reports.
"A twelve-year-old Uchiha with three-tomoe Sharingan? And he's already using the Flying Thunder God technique in battle?"
He slammed his fist onto the desk. "Why haven't I heard about this genius before? Is this some kind of Uchiha plot to infiltrate the Hokage's circle? Do they plan to use this boy to take over the Hokage's throne?!"
Danzo's paranoia was evident, his distrust of the Uchiha clan blinding him to reason. In his mind, this was no coincidence. The Uchiha must have carefully groomed Yuma to exploit their way into Konoha's highest ranks. Danzo couldn't accept that such a prodigy had gone unnoticed until now.
But Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, shook his head, smiling faintly at Danzo's outburst.
"You're overthinking this, Danzo. The Uchiha don't have such intricate schemes. As for Yuma…" Hiruzen opened a drawer and pulled out a file, sliding it across the desk. "Read this."
Danzo eagerly grabbed the file, scanning its contents with a mix of suspicion and astonishment. Hiruzen, for his part, leaned back in his chair, reflecting on the boy's rapid rise. Only a few months ago, Yuma had been an inexperienced ninja. His recent accomplishments, including defeating Mist's Biwa Juzo and mastering the Sharingan, were impressive. But facing a Kage-level opponent like the Red Sand Scorpion and surviving? That was unprecedented.
Meanwhile, Namikaze Minato, who had been observing the conversation silently, spoke up. "Hokage-sama, with all due respect, shouldn't our focus be on the implications of the Kazekage's death? This could destabilize the ninja world."
Hiruzen nodded, snapping out of his reverie. "You're right, Minato. The death of the Kazekage is a national matter. We must prepare for the consequences. Let me summon Koharu and Homura; we need their counsel."
Elsewhere in Konoha
News of Uchiha Yuma's role in the rescue mission spread rapidly. Within the Hyuga clan's residence, Hyuga Hiashi turned to his brother, Hizashi, with a furrowed brow.
"Is this information accurate? Did Uchiha Yuma really face the Red Sand Scorpion and survive?" Hiashi's tone was one of disbelief.
Hizashi nodded. "Yes, the rescue team's reports confirm it. Yuma's strength is undeniable."
Hiashi sighed deeply. "It seems Uchiha has produced a remarkable genius. Our ambitions to surpass them as Konoha's foremost clan may need to be postponed."
Back in the Uchiha Compound
After returning from the mission, Uchiha Yuma slept soundly, his body and mind recovering from the ordeal. The next morning, he woke refreshed and planned to head to a quiet training ground to assess his gains from the mission. However, as he stepped out, he noticed something strange. Every patrol team from the Uchiha's security department he passed gave him curious, almost reverent looks.
Confused, Yuma finally stopped one of the patrols. After a polite greeting, he asked, "Excuse me, seniors. Why is everyone looking at me so strangely today?"
One of the patrol members, a young Uchiha with brown hair, stepped forward with a grin. "You don't know?"
Yuma tilted his head. "Know what?"
The young man chuckled. "Uchiha Yuma, you're famous now!"
"Ha?!" Yuma's eyes widened in shock.
