Chapter 33: Hiruzen’s Relief
Konoha Village, Hokage Building, Sarutobi Hiruzen's Office
Bang!
Shimura Danzo hurriedly pushed open the door.
Anbu, who were stationed nearby, pretended to ignore it. They were well aware of the relationship between Elder Danzo and Lord Hokage—how could they not know?
Sarutobi Hiruzen raised his head calmly upon hearing the noise. He immediately recognized who it was, as only Danzo would enter his office without any prior announcement.
"Danzo? What's the matter that's making you so anxious?" Sarutobi Hiruzen asked, his confusion evident.
He knew Danzo well enough to understand that if something were truly serious, Danzo wouldn't be this flustered. It had to be something trivial, as far as Danzo was concerned.
Danzo took a few deep breaths before responding, "Hiruzen, I'm sure you're aware of what the Hidden Mist Village is up to."
Sarutobi Hiruzen furrowed his brows. "We've discussed this matter before. Is there something new?"
"This is a big issue, Hiruzen!" Danzo's face grew serious as he locked eyes with Hiruzen. "We don't have enough commanders. The Hidden Mist Village has enough forces to guard the coastline."
Danzo then grabbed a map from the wall and placed it on Sarutobi Hiruzen's desk. He pointed to the long, narrow coastline of the Land of Fire. "Because of the coastline, we need a force that's both strong and mobile."
Sarutobi Hiruzen sighed in frustration. "What's your suggestion, then?" He was troubled by the situation. Recently, the Hidden Sand Village had declared war, and Iwagakure was sending troops to the border. It seemed like the Hidden Mist Village was also preparing to stir trouble. Besides himself, there were only three capable commanders in the village: his disciples—Orochimaru, Jiraiya, and Tsunade.
The issue was that Tsunade, due to her hemophobia, could only command medical forces in the rear. Orochimaru needed to focus on the Hidden Sand Village, and Jiraiya had to guard against Iwagakure at the border.
But what about the Hidden Mist Village? Sarutobi Hiruzen didn't know how to handle that.
He had an idea in mind, though. If the war situation worsened, he planned to send Uchiha forces to the battlefield.
As for the long-standing policy established by Tobirama-sensei to keep Uchiha in the Security Department, Hiruzen was willing to overlook it for the sake of war.
"We'll send out the Uchiha. They've been gathering strength for years; it's time to use them."
"With the coastline being so long, we'll need someone like Uchiha Yuma, Minato's disciple, who possesses the Flying Thunder God Technique. He'll be perfect for the mission."
Danzo's true intent was now clear. He had thought through the plan on his way here: send Uchiha Yuma to guard the Hidden Mist Village. Sarutobi Hiruzen had little choice but to agree. After all, Danzo was the second-in-command of Konoha and had a firm grasp of the village's current predicament.
Hiruzen could see that Uchiha had been building strength for years—it was time to put it to use. Sarutobi Hiruzen smiled faintly and said, "Very good. Let's arrange it that way."
Uchiha Yuma had been living a peaceful life lately. His spiritual training was progressing smoothly, and his strength was growing day by day, which made him extremely happy.
One day, in a good mood, he set out to meet Minato's class at their designated training ground. He had been thinking about his shortcomings lately.
There was no doubt that he was a Ninjutsu type Uchiha, much like Sasuke. He relied on his Sharingan for Genjutsu and his Taijutsu skills—he was satisfied with this approach. However, he wanted to improve all aspects of his abilities—Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu.
In particular, he wanted to work on his physical strength.
He had heard about Might Guy's "Steel Training" and was eager to try it out. The effects of this training were simple: continuous exercise would improve physical fitness. He ordered weights a few days ago to begin this regimen.
As he jogged to the training ground, he thought to himself, "This is harder than I thought. Rock Li has been training for years to carry 500 kilograms, and here I am, jumping straight to 1,000 pounds. No wonder this is tough."
Uchiha Yuma didn't use Chakra as he ran—he was relying purely on physical strength. Unlike Rock Li, who trained relentlessly, Yuma had an immense amount of Chakra, which made him physically stronger. He was confident that he could carry the 1,000-kilogram weight.
When he arrived at the training ground, he greeted his classmates: "Sorry, Kakashi, Rin. Am I late?"
Kakashi, with his trademark deadpan expression, replied, "It's fine. You Uchiha are always late. Rin and I are used to it."
Rin smiled and reassured him, "Don't be too hard on him, Kakashi. Yuma-kun is on time. It's Obito who's always late."
Just as she said that, Obito arrived, panting heavily and wearing his goggles.
"Ha... ha... ha!" Obito bent over, catching his breath. Once he recovered, he apologized, "Sorry, I helped an old lady get home, and that took longer than expected."
The others didn't mind—Obito's excuse was believable, as they knew he would actually do something like that.
The group got to work, and not long after, Kakashi stopped practicing. He walked over to Yuma, who was doing warm-up exercises, and asked seriously, "Are you wearing weights?"
"Yeah," Yuma replied, exhaling slightly. "I'm using the weights to enhance my physical skills."
Kakashi frowned and offered some advice, "You shouldn't casually train with weights like this. I suggest you ask Guy-sensei about it."
Yuma nodded, understanding Kakashi's concern. However, Kakashi didn't know about Yuma's special ability—his entry.
While practicing, Yuma had realized something extraordinary: the effect of "persistent exercise will improve physical fitness" was real-time. He could feel himself getting stronger with each passing second of exercise.
He was already getting used to carrying 1,000 kilograms, and it wasn't as difficult as when he first put them on. But Kakashi's advice reminded him of something: with his entry, he could maximize his gains even further by learning more professional knowledge about physical training.
An idea suddenly formed in his mind, and he decided to act on it.
