Chapter 26: Chapter 27: What Should I Do If My Teacher is Too Cunning?
After completing his tutoring session, Mu Yue didn't return to the South Forest but instead went to his house in the main city. After making a simple dinner of two dishes, he went for a walk, as it was hard to find friendship at home.
After walking for a while, Mu Yue ran into Minato and Kushina at a nearby park. The two were sitting on a bench, enjoying the evening breeze and chatting.
"Yusheng." Minato greeted Mu Yue when he saw him.
"Are you here for a walk too?" Minato asked.
Mu Yue nodded, sitting down on the bench next to them and said, "I just finished eating, thought I'd take a walk to help with digestion."
"Yusheng, I heard from Minato that you're a teacher at the ninja academy?" Kushina asked curiously.
She didn't know anyone in her circle who had ever been a teacher at a ninja school.
"Yes, I just started this year," Mu Yue replied with a smile.
"Just started this year, then you must be teaching an excellent class," Minato said, a little surprised.
Kushina looked at Minato in confusion.
"Yesterday in the office, Lord Third mentioned that Yusheng's teaching skills are very high, and even said he wanted to hire Mu Yue as their private tutor," Minato explained.
"To be praised like that by Lord Third after only one year, your teaching results must be exceptional."
"Wow, the old man really said that?" Kushina was also a bit surprised.
Although she wasn't too fond of Hiruzen, she still respected his judgment.
"Not really, it's the students who are hardworking," Mu Yue said humbly, then added, "But Minato, you're the one who's really impressive. Becoming a jōnin at such a young age, you're one of the village's key assets."
"Heh, that's right, Minato is the strongest!" Kushina agreed wholeheartedly.
"But I'm a jōnin too," Kushina laughed.
Mu Yue gave an expression of surprise, then praised, "The Uzumaki clan jōnin is also very impressive."
"You really know how to flatter," Kushina said with a smile, her opinion of Mu Yue rising. She thought if only her best friend, Mikoto Uchiha, weren't already married, she'd definitely introduce Mu Yue to her.
What a great man—handsome like Minato, capable, and already praised by Lord Third.
The three chatted for a while before Mu Yue decided to leave first. After all, the other two were a couple, and it would be awkward to stay too long. It was important to keep a good balance and slowly establish a positive image.
The next day, Mu Yue continued his training with Obito, Guy, and the others until noon. In the afternoon, he went to Hiruzen's house to teach Asuma, taking him back to the riverbank where they had trained the previous day.
"I'm too tired today, I don't want to train," Asuma said, reclining against a tree, pretending to be ready for a nap.
He had made up his mind to remain unmoved no matter what tricks Mu Yue tried to pull.
"Want to sleep?" Mu Yue smiled as he looked at Asuma.
That smile was warm and soothing, much better than his father's, but Asuma still had a bad feeling about it.
"Yeah, I didn't sleep well last night. Is that a problem?" Asuma replied defiantly.
To Asuma's surprise, Mu Yue nodded and agreed, "Yes, today's weather is perfect for a nap. The sun is just right, and the breeze is gentle."
Then, Mu Yue stretched and leaned back against the tree, relaxing. "Being a tutor is great; you can just lie down and sleep, and when you wake up, you've earned ten thousand ryo."
"Wait, what did you say about ten thousand ryo?" Asuma's eyes widened, immediately questioning Mu Yue.
"Why are you making so much noise? Are you sleeping or not?" Mu Yue didn't even open his eyes, appearing ready to fall asleep.
"Don't sleep, tell me about this ten thousand ryo," Asuma urged, shaking Mu Yue's body.
"What else could it be? It's the payment for teaching you," Mu Yue opened his eyes and began to joke seriously, "You think I'm working for free? Even if the Hokage hires a private tutor, they have to pay. My fee is quite high—two thousand five hundred ryo an hour. If I teach for four hours a day, that's ten thousand ryo."
"Is your mouth made of gold? That's such an expensive rate!" Asuma was shocked to learn that Mu Yue charged 2,500 ryo per hour.
When Asuma was in school, his monthly allowance was only 50,000 ryo, which was considered quite a lot. Yet Mu Yue could earn his entire monthly allowance in just two hours of teaching!
"You can ask around at the ninja academy about my name, Yusheng Mu Yue, and you'll know if it's worth that price," Mu Yue said calmly.
"But I've never heard of you before," Asuma said suspiciously, feeling like he was being scammed.
"That's because I only joined after you graduated," Mu Yue said, then closed his eyes again, pretending to sleep.
Seeing Mu Yue about to sleep again, Asuma suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart. This was a tutor who charged 2,500 ryo an hour!
"Don't sleep, let's start training," Asuma quickly said, not wanting Mu Yue to fall asleep.
"You said you didn't sleep well yesterday and were tired. Aren't you tired now?" Mu Yue smiled, opening his eyes to look at Asuma.
Seeing Mu Yue's expression, Asuma realized he had been tricked—Mu Yue wasn't really going to sleep!
But he had no choice. This was a tutor who charged 2,500 ryo per hour. If Mu Yue really slept now, he'd never be able to sleep again—either now or later.
"I'm rested now, let's start training," Asuma said, his face dark.
He was planning to complain to his mother later. Hiring such an expensive tutor seemed like a waste of money, especially when there were jōnin teachers available.
"Okay, then," Mu Yue said. "Today we'll continue training chakra control. The goal is to stay on the water for fifteen minutes."
The training was the same as yesterday. Asuma worked hard to stay on the water's surface, with Mu Yue using water release techniques from the shore to interfere.
Today, Asuma was just as motivated as yesterday, but his motivation was different. Yesterday it was to prove himself to his father, but today it was because of the sky-high tutoring fee Mu Yue had mentioned.
That evening, at dinner, Asuma immediately went to complain to his mother about the outrageous tutoring fee of 2,500 ryo per hour.
Kushina was shocked by the high price as well. Four hours would cost 10,000 ryo, which was the equivalent of a B-ranked mission.
"Huh? You're talking about Yusheng? That's impossible. His tutoring fee is only two thousand ryo an hour," Hiruzen said, surprised, before laughing.
"Two thousand ryo?" Asuma looked at Hiruzen in disbelief.
"Of course, it's two thousand ryo. Where did you hear that it's 2,500?" Hiruzen replied confidently.
Looking at his father's face, Asuma knew he had been tricked by Mu Yue.
"Ah, that damn Mu Yue!" Asuma silently fumed, then turned his frustration into hunger, eating a large meal. He promised himself that next week, no matter what, he wouldn't fall for Mu Yue's tricks again.
