Chapter 337: You are Insane
Blake glanced at the ferocious beasts around Xiaocai, their predatory auras intimidating even the most stalwart foes. The hulking creatures, heavily armoured and brimming with magical power, looked like an unstoppable force. Yet, Blake sighed.
"Tsk, I made a mistake," he muttered under his breath, scratching his head.
The team walked leisurely down the dirt road, completely undisturbed. It was eerily quiet—too quiet. Blake had expected resistance, at least a few daring attacks from creatures inhabiting this otherworldly dimension.
But there had been nothing aside from a mindless horde of low-intelligence zombie-like creatures earlier.
Blake had guessed from his interactions with the system that the creatures in this strange realm, made by the system, must possess intelligence.
Otherwise, it would have been impossible to tame or coexist with them. But any sentient being would recognize that rushing to attack such a monstrous team was akin to suicide.
The scattered remains of faeces and claw marks he'd observed earlier told a clear story: creatures had fled upon noticing his team. "This setup is too much," he realized, glancing at the intimidating beasts.
He reached for his Poke Ball and dismissed most of his animal companions into storage.
Left behind were only Xiaocai, his reliable transport, and Xiong Da, the big brown bear whose demeanour was disarmingly naïve.
"Uh… what are you doing?" Fleur asked, her voice tinged with confusion.
"Dismissing the beasts," Blake replied matter-of-factly. "This team is too strong. The enemy won't even bother showing up."
"What?!" Fleur nearly leapt back in shock. Her expression morphed into one of disbelief and slight panic. "Why would you want the monsters to attack us? Isn't it better if they stay away?"
Blake let out a resigned sigh. "I didn't come all this way to stroll through a garden. We're here to explore and face challenges. If there's no danger, what's the point of an adventure?" He turned back to look at her, his expression calm but determined.
"And honestly, I'm curious about the spoils we can get from these monsters."
"You… you're insane," Fleur stammered, taking a small step back.
Cassandra chuckled softly. "He's not insane, Fleur. Just a little crazy. You'd have to be to voluntarily venture into a world like this."
Blake shrugged. "I won't deny it. But hey, someone's gotta do it."
As if to validate his point, Blake noticed an immediate change in their surroundings after the beasts disappeared. Hidden eyes, previously avoiding them, now tracked their every move.
The faint rustle of leaves and the occasional snap of twigs hinted at lurking dangers. Even Xiong Da, normally calm, let out a low growl of unease.
Both Fleur and Cassandra huddled closer together, sitting nervously on Xiaocai's back. Blake, however, remained utterly relaxed, as though enjoying a scenic stroll.
The path gradually shifted, with strange plants appearing on either side. Blake's attention shifted immediately. Jumping off Xiaocai's back, he began inspecting the flora, collecting seeds and taking notes.
Cassandra and Fleur, left alone on Xiaocai, exchanged uneasy glances. Both had sipped juice casually earlier, but now their bottles sat untouched. The tension of their surroundings seemed to grow heavier.
Cassandra's legs trembled slightly as she sat on the blanket atop Xiaocai. Fleur, meanwhile, crossed her legs tightly, biting her lip. They shifted uncomfortably, stealing glances at Blake.
Blake noticed their fidgeting and paused. Waving at Xiaocai, he called out, "Hey, wait here for a second. I need to take care of something."
The girls perked up, their focus snapping to him.
"What's wrong?" Fleur asked, her cheeks already tinged pink.
"I drank too much earlier," Blake admitted with a sheepish grin. "I need to… take care of some personal matters."
Fleur's face turned red. "Wait!" she called out, her voice unsteady. "I… I think I drank too much too…"
Blake raised an eyebrow. "What's the problem? Just come down and take care of it. There's no one else here, and I promise there won't be any peeking."
Cassandra, already blushing, finally spoke up. "It's not that simple," she murmured. Her gaze flicked nervously toward the surrounding forest.
Understanding dawned on Blake. In this dangerous and unpredictable world, the idea of venturing into the woods alone for such a vulnerable task was terrifying.
"Ah," he said, scratching the back of his head. "I get it. Fine, I'll come with you."
Relieved but still embarrassed, Fleur and Cassandra climbed down from Xiaocai, avoiding eye contact. Blake led them to a small hill nearby, keeping an eye on their surroundings. Upon reaching the hill, he raised his hands, then he silently chanted a mantra. In the next second, the ground rumbled and a wall suddenly rose up!
"There," Blake said, stepping back to reveal a makeshift toilet. "It's basic, but it'll do the job. Quick and safe."
The girls stared in surprise. Though simple, the enclosed space felt like a fortress compared to the open wilderness.
"Thank you," Cassandra said softly, stepping toward it.
"Yeah, thanks," Fleur added, her cheeks still flushed.
Blake waved them off. "No need for thanks. It'll hold for one use, but don't lean on the walls too much—it's just compacted dirt."
"Ugh, do you think we're as careless as you?" Fleur snapped, her embarrassment giving way to irritation.
